Pokémon: Chronicles of Freedom-Chapter 537 - 536: Dusclops
Chapter 537 - 536: Dusclops
Upon arriving here, most people were accompanied by one or two ghost-type Pokémon.
However, trainers specializing in these Pokémon always appeared exhausted, with dark circles under their eyes.
Unlike other League trainers, they didn't greet one another or exchange smiles upon meeting. Each focused on their own business, ignoring everyone else.
Because of this, it's said that trainers specializing in ghost-type Pokémon tend to behave in ways others might find strange or uncomfortable. Furthermore, among all Pokémon types, ghost-type trainers are the least numerous.

Cain decided it was unnecessary for Haunter to remain hidden in his shadow, allowing it to come out and accompany him. Haunter seemed very lively in this place, as the ghost-type energy saturating the environment made it feel quite comfortable.
Climbing the mountain's stairs, even though the sun shone in the sky, there was a dimness in the air, and the sunlight didn't provide its usual warmth to the body.
Cain knew there was an inner region within Mt. Pyre. If Haunter wanted to evolve perfectly, it would be better to venture into that area where ghost-type energy was more concentrated.
This area was still part of Mt. Pyre's outskirts.
Although the ghost-type energy here was much more abundant than in other places, for Haunter, it only meant faster recovery. It didn't have the density he experienced on Trial Island, where he absorbed much more potent ghostly energy.
In other words, the quantity here was sufficient, but the quality wasn't.
Reaching halfway up the mountain, Cain stopped. While continuing up the stairs to the summit was easier and more comfortable, many trainers had already taken that path and found no entrance to the inner areas.
Clearly, nothing new would be discovered by continuing there.
Ignoring a sign warning against entering unknown areas, Cain veered off the path, with Haunter following closely.
Walking on the soft grass and observing the scattered graves, Cain noticed the temperature here was slightly lower than on the stairs.
"Haunter, do you sense anything in this place?" Cain asked, looking at the Pokémon beside him.
"Kekeke!" Haunter shook its head.
"Then let's keep searching elsewhere. Although the ghost energy does seem slightly stronger here," Cain mused.
As a psychic, Cain could perceive the ghost-type energy floating in the air. Naturally, his body felt some aversion to it, but not enough to stop him from proceeding.
As they ventured further, fewer and fewer people appeared around them. Eventually, no one else was in sight. Cain felt a sense of anticipation.
"Mismagius!" he called softly into the air.
"Miiis!" Hearing Cain's voice, Mismagius eagerly emerged from the shadow where she had been hiding. Since approaching Mt. Pyre, Mismagius had felt the environmental difference and wanted to come out.
However, remembering the fright caused by the Dragonite they encountered earlier, she had restrained herself until Cain called.
Seeing Mismagius with the Soothe Bell hanging from her chest, Cain smiled and patted her head.
The bond between Cain and Mismagius had improved significantly, to the point where she no longer resisted carrying out simple tasks.
"Mismagius, can you sense any place where the ghost energy is stronger around here?" Cain asked.
"Miiis?" Mismagius paused for a moment, then closed her eyes, focusing on the surroundings. Cain didn't interrupt, letting her sense silently.
"Miiis!" Suddenly, Mismagius opened her eyes with a delighted expression and floated in a specific direction.
Seeing Mismagius's reaction, Cain didn't hesitate and followed, with Haunter in tow.
With Mismagius's speed, they reached the location she had sensed in just a minute.
However, it wasn't what Cain expected—it wasn't an entrance to Mt. Pyre's inner area but a shadowy, dark spot behind a large rock.
The back side of the rock, shielded from direct sunlight, was cold and damp, covered in moss.
Here, the ghost energy was denser than in other nearby areas, but only in comparison to its surroundings.
"Miiis?" Mismagius began circling Cain with an expression that clearly wanted a reward.
Seeing this, Cain couldn't help but smile wryly and took out a few Pokéblocks to give it.
However, just as Cain was about to leave, a dark shadow suddenly appeared.
Two hands extended forward, with a red eye in the center, its body covered in a pale gray.
Dusclops!
Appearing so suddenly, it was genuinely a bit eerie.
On the way here, Cain had already encountered several ghost-type Pokémon, such as Gastly, Shuppet, and Duskull, but this was the first time he saw a Dusclops.
Slightly startled by its appearance, Cain watched as the Dusclops launched an attack. However, Haunter, always by his side, quickly intervened to stop it.
The system activated, scanning Dusclops's data:
Pokémon: Dusclops (Green)

A level 37 Dusclops with green quality.
From what Cain knew, Duskull evolved into Dusclops at level 37, but Dusclops wasn't its final form. If he obtained a Reaper Cloth, it could evolve into Dusknoir, one of the most powerful ghost-type Pokémon.
It seemed the denser ghost energy Mismagius sensed came from this Dusclops, which had likely evolved due to it.
Or perhaps, it was the presence of this Dusclops that made the ghost energy in the area more concentrated.
"Haunter, use Skill Swap and then Psychic. Dusclops is slow—keep your distance and avoid close combat," Cain instructed after analyzing the Dusclops's data.
"Kekeke!" Haunter responded quickly, moving away from Dusclops to maintain distance, then used Skill Swap to exchange its ability with Dusclops's.
