Chapter 477 - 476: Resource Acquisition

From the beginning, when Rei received the mission from Umbra, he didn't give it much thought, assuming it was just a simple escort task. He had completed countless such missions over the year, even carrying out some in the Hoenn region.

However, before departing for the mission, Lucius sent someone to contact him, offering numerous benefits and promising to help him reach the advanced level.

On previous occasions, Lucius had also sent people to approach him privately, but it was always over trivial matters, and Rei hadn't paid much attention to them.

This time, although he knew the mission was important, he couldn't resist the temptation of advancing his level. Yet, he never questioned how Lucius knew about the mission or was aware of the person it was intended for.

Lucius provided information about Cain, describing him as a fool and predicting no major issues.

Watching a thoroughly defeated Rei, Cain smirked sarcastically. He ordered Sneasel to strip Rei of all his storage equipment and also collected the Poké Balls from his belt, particularly those containing Yanmega and Ariados, which were especially valuable.

Although Rei's other Pokémon were strong, they didn't match the level of these two. Possessing two quasi-advanced Pokémon was a significant advantage. Cain could temporarily use them or sell them—both were viable options.

However, given the current level of his subordinates, they weren't equipped to tame Pokémon of such strength. Attempting to do so might lead to rebellion, especially with a ferocious Pokémon like Yanmega, which could easily turn on its trainer.

For now, Cain decided to hold on to these Pokémon, unsure of what he'd do with them later.

Then, he retrieved the resources Umbra had sent from Rei's storage unit, stored in a metal box with a combination lock, exclusively used by Team Rocket for important items.

Umbra had already sent Cain the key to unlock it.

Without opening the box immediately, he stored it in his own storage unit. The other items he retrieved were mostly of little value.

Team Rocket members typically avoided carrying valuable items with them, preferring to use their resources to improve their skills, store points on their ID cards, or convert them into Pokédollars and deposit them in secure bank accounts.

Even so, the Pokémon he had obtained were valuable in their own right. As for Rei, who still lay under Cain's foot, there was no intention of letting him live.

Rei had probably resigned himself to his fate the moment Cain defeated him. Unfortunately, the information provided by Lucius was too outdated; it not only failed to help Rei but also misled him.

Now, Rei, with a vacant expression, showed no signs of resistance.

Cain gestured to Sneasel, who summoned its ice energy and froze Rei completely. This left no blood traces, which was convenient since they were near Littleroot Town, and Cain didn't want to meet Professor Birch covered in blood—it might leave a bad impression.

Cain buried the body without leaving a trace, then changed clothes and headed out of the forest.

Now less than half a day from Littleroot Town, he summoned Tropius. Since the local Pokémon were too weak for training, Cain decided to fly to Littleroot Town on Tropius.

While in flight, Cain took out the metal box he had received and opened it using the combination Umbra had provided. Inside, he found several compartments and a card.

It was a nameless League bank account card with a balance of fifty million Pokédollars—a significant fortune for Cain at that moment.

The box also contained TMs for Pokémon and food for Aron and others in their early development stages.

Cain stored the card in his storage unit, aware of its importance as a source of sustenance. He then opened two of the smaller compartments. Judging by their size, one likely contained a Razor Claw and the other Black Sludge.

Sure enough, upon opening one of the compartments, he found an item resembling a metal disc, though its material was unclear. While called a "Razor Claw," it didn't actually resemble a claw; it looked more like a grooved metal disc.

Item: Razor Claw

Description: A sharp claw that increases the holder's chance of landing critical hits.

Effect: Boosts the holder's critical hit ratio by one stage.

Special Effect: Sneasel can evolve into Weavile at night if holding this item.

This was the item Cain had been waiting for to evolve Sneasel.

Next, he opened the other compartment, which contained a lump of sludge emitting a foul odor.

Item: Black Sludge

Description: An item that slowly restores the health of Poison-type Pokémon. Pokémon of other types will lose health if they hold it.

Effect: Restores one-sixteenth of a Poison-type Pokémon's total HP, while other types lose approximately one-eighth of their total HP.

This Black Sludge was an excellent accessory for Skorupi, one of Cain's main battle Pokémon. With this item, Skorupi could recover health and stay in battle longer, especially with some Poison-type support.

Both items were incredibly valuable and had cost Cain significant resources. He stored them carefully, then moved on to the most important item in the box: three full evolution elixirs.

These were likely the last remaining elixirs within Team Rocket. Cain had spent half of the rewards from his previous trial to obtain them. But now that he had them, he felt it was worth every Pokédollar.

These three elixirs were Cain's only method of incubating the Larvitar egg he had been holding onto for so long.

Larvitar!

A pseudo-legendary Pokémon!

Although, with Cain's current strength, it might be challenging to protect a Pokémon of this caliber, he felt confident in his basic ability to raise it. The incubation of Larvitar had to begin soon.

However, thinking about Larvitar's appetite compared to Aron's gave Cain a headache. The fifty million Pokédollars from Umbra suddenly seemed insufficient. Even so, incubating Larvitar was an unavoidable priority for Cain's future.

Carefully storing the box with the three catalysts, he descended from Tropius's back.

Littleroot Town was now very close!
