Pokémon: Chronicles of Freedom-Chapter 408 - 407: What’s in the Water?
Chapter 408 - 407: What's in the Water?
The mother Absol listened to Cain's words and stepped back, signaling she understood and would allow him to approach.
Honchkrow and Sneasel stepped forward, blocking the mother Absol's path, but left enough space for her to observe what Cain was doing.
The three Absol pups, seeing a stranger approach, began to whine softly, especially the two healthy ones—the non-shiny Absols—who moved to shield the shiny Absol.
"Abs~~" the mother Absol murmured softly.
Only then did the two little Absols stop blocking the way and quiet down.
Cain slowly placed his hand on the shiny Absol's red fur.
A soft and warm sensation transmitted from his hand.
"System, initiate a detailed scan," Cain ordered in his mind.
At the same time, he pretended to observe carefully.
Three minutes later...
A mechanical voice sounded in Cain's mind.
"Beep! Scan complete. Results displayed."
A data chart appeared before Cain's eyes.
According to the system's scan results, the shiny Absol's weakness was entirely due to a lack of nutrients and vitamins.
Could it be the mother Absol wasn't providing enough?
Cain glanced at the mother Absol, who waited anxiously.
Then, carefully, he placed the shiny Absol back on the ground and said, "I have a way to heal it, and it might develop better than its two siblings."
Hearing this, the mother Absol showed a look of joy, and Karen, who was watching from the side, seemed surprised. However, her eyes held more astonishment than happiness.
"Does this lunatic really know how to heal Pokémon? Who is he, really?"
"However, I have a condition," Cain interrupted their joy.
"Abs?"
"It's a simple condition. I won't try to capture you, nor will I restrict your freedom. I only want you to move to another location and help me monitor that environment."
"This place is quite far from human civilization, and it won't be possible to heal this little Absol in just one day. If you're closer to me, I can treat it better," Cain explained, looking directly into the mother Absol's eyes.
The source of this c𝓸ntent is frёeweɓηovel.coɱ.
This was indeed his intention, so he showed no signs of concealment.
"Abs~~" The mother Absol thought for a moment, then nodded slightly.
Relocating wouldn't impact her life too much.
Although they might have been acclimating to this area, Absols were destined to roam deep mountains, so moving wasn't unacceptable.
Cain smiled in satisfaction.
Though he hadn't managed to capture the Absol today to earn hunter points, he had persuaded a future vice-leader for his hunting group and convinced the rare Absol family to move to the rear of his mountain.
They would act as his guard dogs—and not just one, but four of them.
The mother Absol was of Light Blue quality, so it was likely the father of the pups also had high quality. The two normal Absols were also Light Blue, and the shiny Absol was Blue quality.
If they grew strong, Cain's mountain base would be absolutely secure.
Because an Absol could foresee dangers, and if one prediction wasn't entirely accurate, how about four predictions at the same time?
Moreover, the shiny Absol held certain training potential.
During its treatment, if Cain managed to earn its trust, he might even persuade it to join his team.
After all, Absol was a Pokémon capable of Mega Evolution.
A shiny Absol, being unique, would undoubtedly show great potential in the future.
"Alright, pack your things. I'll take you shortly," Cain said.
Then, looking at Karen, who seemed hesitant, he added after a moment of thought, "Go to Verdanturf Town and wait for me there. In a few days, I'll probably be there to establish our hunting group. You'll soon meet your subordinates."
Karen looked at Cain and couldn't help but ask, "Are you crazy? Are you a Pokémon doctor?"
"I'm a breeder; you can consider me an intermediate-level one. In the future, I can handle the Pokéblocks for your Pokémon, but in exchange, I'll need equivalent compensation," Cain replied calmly.
Hearing this, Karen's eyes widened in surprise, unable to believe what she was hearing.
Really?
He was going to create his own hunting group and recruit people. Could he be lying, knowing he'd be exposed sooner or later?
After a brief moment of doubt, Karen concluded Cain wasn't lying.
A group leader with intermediate breeder skills? That could make the hunting group quite interesting.
With a cheerful heart, Karen slowly walked away.
Before leaving, Cain and she exchanged contact information.
Could Karen trick Cain?
From Cain's perspective, it was possible but unlikely.
Both were intelligent, and Cain had appealed to both emotion and logic; forming the hunting group would clearly bring her many benefits, so there was no reason to refuse.
Thus, Karen left the cave with a smile, mounted a Skarmory, and flew away immediately.
So, what about women? Sometimes they're clever, and sometimes they're not. Didn't she consider the possibility that after she left, Cain could capture the Absols and claim the mission reward for himself?
Cain thought about this, shook his head, and returned to the cave.
In truth, it wasn't that Karen was naïve but that her sixth sense told her Cain wouldn't do that.
Sometimes intuition can be incredible!
Watching Karen leave, Cain turned back and re-entered the cave.
He saw the mother Absol had already gathered her three pups. The two healthier Absols were perched on her back, while the weaker shiny Absol was being carried in her mouth.
"Let's go," Cain said, looking at the Absol.
However, just as they were leaving the cave, the mother Absol suddenly stopped. Her eyes, glowing with psychic power, flickered.
Cain looked curiously at Absol.
He saw her nod toward him, then suddenly turn and run in a specific direction.
Cain hesitated for a moment but knew Absol didn't intend to flee since Cain currently harbored no ill intentions toward them, and the Absol pup still needed treatment.
He mounted Honchkrow's back and immediately followed.
Absol led him to the edge of the lake where they had met earlier.
She gestured toward the lake, her psychic-powered eyes flickering.
"In the water, there's..." Absol's rough telepathy echoed in Cain's mind.
Was Absol saying there was something in the water she needed?
That was Cain's first interpretation.
"Come out, Slowpoke," he said. Since there was no one else around, there was no issue with Slowpoke making an appearance.
