Plunder-Chapter 32 - Marrying a Wife
Chapter 32: Chapter 32 Marrying a Wife
Chapter 32 -32 Marrying a Wife
“But she’s very cunning, having stayed by Brother An’s side for three years. Now that I’ve been gone so long, I’ve become estranged from him.”
An Kexin knew very well that, relying on her own abilities to become the young madam of the Zhou family was nothing but a fool’s dream.
But if Mrs. Zhou was willing to help her with all her might, then this dream might come true.
Therefore, she must rope Mrs. Zhou into her camp, and moreover, Mrs. Zhou must do so willingly.
“Aunt Zhou, maybe I should just let go. I love Brother An, but I wish for his happiness even more.”
An Kexin’s eyes reddened, and while dabbing at her tears, she tested Mrs. Zhou’s reaction and put on an act of being torn about leaving.
Mrs. Zhou hastily grabbed her and held on.
“Kexin, the position of the Zhou family’s young madam can only be yours, and I only acknowledge you as my daughter-in-law. You must be patient.”
“Aunt Liu, call the young master and tell him I’ve suddenly fainted.”
Mrs. Zhou ordered.
Aunt Liu did as told and quickly called Zhou Jin’an.
The Maybach was halfway there when Cheng Lu received the call from Aunt Liu.
“Young master, it’s not good, the madam has fainted.”
Aunt Liu exclaimed frantically on the other end of the line.
“What happened?”
Zhou Jin’an’s heart tightened. Although he wasn’t close to Mrs. Zhou, she was, after all, his biological mother.
He had always known that Mrs. Zhou was not in the best of health.
Cheng Lu immediately turned the car around, heading straight for the Zhou family courtyard.
“The madam was fine just now, Miss An was with her, talking. I don’t know how it happened, the madam just stood up and then collapsed on the floor.”
“Call Dr. Liu over.”
Zhou Jin’an’s voice carried a hint of urgency.
They soon arrived at the Zhou family courtyard, and Zhou Jin’an hurriedly got out of the car and rushed inside.
Mrs. Zhou was already lying on the big bed in the bedroom, with An Kexin at her side, holding her hand and constantly wiping away tears.
The doctor was conducting a routine examination on Mrs. Zhou.
“Dr. Liu, how is my mother?”
Zhou Jin’an asked.
Dr. Liu took off his stethoscope, his expression not looking too good.
“The madam has suffered a syncope due to a fit of rage. She needs to rest well. I’ll go write a prescription for her.”
After saying this, Dr. Liu stepped out of the bedroom.
The room was very quiet, except for the sound of An Kexin sobbing.
Mrs. Zhou lay on the bed, her complexion waxen and looking extremely wan.
She was afflicted with a heart disease, which had plagued her for the better part of her life.
Without curing this heart disease, she would never get better.
“Brother An, it’s all my fault. I didn’t take good care of Aunt Zhou.”
She was the cherished young lady of the An family, never having to lift a finger, yet she was willing to become a servant in Mrs. Zhou’s residence. Zhou Jin’an should be moved.
But, he only glanced at An Kexin with disgust.
“You should leave. My mother needs peace and quiet to recuperate.”
His voice was icy cold.
An Kexin’s eyes reddened even more, “Brother An, let me stay here. With Aunt Zhou in this state, I can be of help.”
Mrs. Zhou had staged this play for her.
If she left, what would be the point of this play?
“There are doctors and nannies here. Your presence can only cause more chaos.”
Zhou Jin’an’s face showed his anger, and his words became even harsher.
An Kexin found it difficult to exit gracefully, but Mrs. Zhou immediately stepped in to defuse the awkwardness.
“Jin’an.”
Her voice sounded as if it had aged ten years in an instant, weak and trembling, eliciting pity.
Zhou Jin’an approached but didn’t come close.
Mrs. Zhou’s hand trembled in an attempt to grasp Zhou Jin’an’s hand.
He saw through her intentions at a glance, yet he did not reach out his hand to her voluntarily.
Over the years, Zhou Jin’an had grown accustomed to keeping his distance from everyone, including his biological mother.
“You’re ill; just stay laying down.”
He pulled a chair over and sat down by Mrs. Zhou’s bedside.
Her act was very convincing, almost deceiving him.
“Aunt Zhou, you should rest well, I will come to see you again tomorrow.”
An Kexin realized that staying here was fruitless, Mrs. Zhou wanted her to be patient and look at the bigger picture, which she quickly understood.
“Jin’an, why don’t you see Kexin out? It’s not safe for a girl to go home alone so late.”
Mrs. Zhou instructed.
An Kexin paused at the doorway.
She looked back at Zhou Jin’an; his tall figure gave a sense of security, but he was just too cold and heartless towards her.
“Cheng Lu will take her home.”
The hope in An Kexin’s eyes was dashed, but she did not show it.
“Aunt Zhou, there’s no trouble, my family sent a driver, I can go back by myself.”
She left the room and thoughtfully closed the door gently behind her as she went.
With her gone, Mrs. Zhou sighed heavily.
“Jin’an, why are you so stubborn? Kexin is sincere with you; if not for the monk’s face, consider the Buddha’s, at least treat her better.”
Zhou Jin’an sat with legs crossed, peeled an orange, and handed half to Mrs. Zhou.
“Not acting anymore?”
He bluntly exposed her.
Mrs. Zhou’s face became stern as she sharply said, “Don’t be ungrateful. Kexin has the backing of the An family. Her elder brother An Jinrong is in politics, and her second brother An Jinhua is in business. Marrying Kexin will get you their support, and then you will be able to sit firm and unchallenged in the Zhou family.”
Mrs. Zhou had explained these interests to Zhou Jin’an many times before, but he never listened.
“You don’t trust your son that much?”
He asked, his face dark and unsmiling.
Mrs. Zhou was annoyed; Zhou Jin’an wasn’t heeding her advice, and it felt to her like punching cotton.
“Zhou Jin’an, do you ever listen to your mother? I do this for your own good.”
Mrs. Zhou suddenly raised her voice.
Zhou Jin’an peeled the orange slice by slice and put it into his mouth.
The orange was a bit sour, which he did not like, and after a few slices, he threw them into the trash can.
“So, you’re in this together?”
Zhou Jin’an’s gaze towards Mrs. Zhou was intense.
He didn’t speak much, but every word hit home.
“What are you talking about? You are my son, and Kexin will be my daughter-in-law.”
“I don’t acknowledge her.”
Zhou Jin’an let out a cold laugh, pulled out the chair he was sitting on, and stood up.
“The Zhou family will not allow a woman like Qiao En to enter. It would be best if you give up on that idea.”
Mrs. Zhou couldn’t bother to beat around the bush with him anymore; she had to lay out the harsh reality in front of Zhou Jin’an, to force him into submission.
The Zhou family was prominent in Rong City, and Qiao En’s humble origins didn’t meet the family’s standards.
Now, with those rumors about her spreading, whether they were true or not, the Zhou family couldn’t accept her.
Although Mrs. Zhou was no longer part of the Zhou family, she still shared their concerns.

“Who I, Zhou Jin’an, marry is for nobody else to decide. If I like her, I’d marry a beggar from the streets, but if I don’t, not even a fairy from heaven could tempt me.”
Zhou Jin’an’s words were emphatic.
Mrs. Zhou was furious; she realized that she was increasingly unable to control Zhou Jin’an.
“I am your mother, and I don’t agree.”
She wanted to struggle further, to use her maternal status to pressure Zhou Jin’an.
However, she was disappointed once again.
Zhou Jin’an walked straight towards the door; his back to Mrs. Zhou, his voice especially cold.
“It is I, Zhou Jin’an, who is getting married, not you.”
