Plotting with You: The Forensic Scientist in Ancient Times!-Chapter 484 - 483: "Medicine
After the two women were hauled into the inner hall by the eunuchs, a faint sound began to emerge from behind. At first, it was hard to discern what it was about, but after a while, the five people standing like wooden stakes outside generally understood the origin of that "sensual sound."
Yan Daoxin awkwardly touched his nose and turned his face to the side.
Even though there were gauze curtains and screens in front, and a considerable distance in between, he still felt unbearably awkward facing that direction.
"Isn’t this... isn’t this a bit too familiar with us?" He turned his head and whispered to Lu Qing and Zhu Yu, "At such an old age, is it really that urgent?"
"He’s more than just familiar with us!" Zhu Yu frowned, "Just now, there must have been five eunuchs going in, right? Have you seen anyone come out?"
"Now that you mention it, indeed... your father... oh right, your father doesn’t like eunuchs, so there’s not even half in the mansion." Yan Daoxin, curious, turned his gaze to Lu Qing, "In the palace... oh, oh, oh, oh..."
Before he could voice his "blasphemous" question, Lu Qing punched him in the back waist, successfully swallowing the rest of his dangerous question.
Lu Qing wore a veiled hat, making his expression hard for outsiders to see, but Zhu Yu, understanding, glared at Yan Daoxin on his behalf.
Not to mention that this occasion wasn’t suitable for casual jokes, even privately, the words were truly inappropriate.
To begin with, outsiders discussing inner palace affairs haphazardly is a major taboo, let alone how Lu Qing, being an outsider himself, could possibly know the private matters between the Emperor and the consort in the rear palace.
Furthermore, despite Lu Qing bearing the title of Prince, everyone under the sky knew he wasn’t Emperor Jin’s direct offspring but rather an adopted child, lacking a direct blood relation. Therefore, even with the title of Prince Xiaoyao, he remained a complete outsider.
How could an outsider, an outsider, respond to such matters?
Nevertheless, due to Yan Daoxin’s unintentional interruption, Zhu Yu didn’t feel so awkward anymore.
From the sound that had just emerged, Yan Daoxin, a Daoist, felt awkward, and she, a woman, felt equally uncomfortable.
She wasn’t a pervert, having no interest in eavesdropping like this, okay?!
However, she couldn’t help but wonder: Even if King Fan was accustomed to having eunuchs attend to him, five eunuchs... did he really not find it awkward?
Or perhaps... his physical condition was such that he couldn’t handle things independently, needing several eunuchs... to assist?
Is it possible... the ones sent in weren’t favored concubines or beauties, but rather relief for King Fan’s ailment?
This would also explain why the Prince Mansion’s guards were searching everywhere for young women.
She pondered whether to share her speculations with Lu Qing, though currently no one was around, she still felt uneasy.
Just then, an originally quiet scene broke as a eunuch rushed out frantically, not even glancing at them, and headed outside.
Another eunuch chased after him, shouting, "One may not be enough, bring two more!"
The one running in front responded, quickening his pace and disappeared in a flash.
The one urging at the back did the same, spinning around and hurrying back inside, completely disregarding the five outside, almost as if they forgot they had just summoned a Divine Doctor from outside.
Zhu Yu grew increasingly curious, wanting to know how accurate her earlier speculation was and felt a vague concern for the two women who were sent inside, wondering why the eunuch felt one more wasn’t enough and two would be better...
Just as they were waiting for the running eunuch to bring other beauties, instead of the expected beauties, the eunuch who had gone inside ran out again, looking unusually panicked, seemingly close to losing his wits.
"Divine Doctor! Divine Doctor!" This time he came directly for Yan Daoxin, falling to the ground in front of him, reaching to tug at his pants, "Please hurry and tend to our King!"
"Right now?!" Yan Daoxin stunned briefly, estimating that his earlier speculation matched Zhu Yu’s, both waiting for the one that left to bring women, not expecting to suddenly be asked to go in for diagnosis.
"Divine Doctor, please be quick! Delay any longer and it might be too late!" The eunuch was nearly in tears, pleading while tugging Yan Daoxin’s pants, urging him inside.
Clearly, there was trouble with King Fan.
Yan Daoxin snapped back to reality, no need for more urging, stepping forward inside. Lu Qing, Zhu Yu, and the others followed suit; the eunuch, in his disarray, didn’t even attempt to block them, allowing all five to dash inside the hall.
Inside, the three remaining eunuchs were slumped on the ground, none showing any spark, and it seemed that the one who ran outside earlier was the most composed.
King Fan lay on his large, messy ground bed, face-up, with his clothes somewhat tidied by the confused eunuchs, making it not too unsightly.
His face was flushed, but he looked stiff overall, his body apparently showing signs of convulsion.
No reaction came from their rapid steps in; King Fan appeared oblivious, as though he hadn’t heard a thing.
Not far, the two women brought in earlier lay disheveled on the ground, motionless, and seemingly lifeless.
Yan Daoxin disregarded everything else, seeing the eunuchs weren’t informed; he went straight forward to check for breath, faint though present, then pulled King Fan’s wrist to feel his pulse.
Zhu Yu glanced at Lu Qing; Lu Qing nodded at her, indicating she proceed with what she intended, then she too stepped forward, prying open King Fan’s eyelid, noticing his pupils slightly dilated, a bad sign.
Looking at Yan Daoxin, he frowned, eyelids lowered, seemingly having difficulty assessing the pulse.
"You! Get an oil lamp here!" She looked at the nearest eunuch, directly instructing.
