Pestilence: Rise Of The Pure Undead-Chapter 640: Ghastly Transformation
It was a bit embarrassing to admit, but Maliah struggled a whole lot more with trying to figure out how to put this realm's clothes on compared to the time when she fought the Volcano Witch, it felt and looked like she was cat playing with an empty box, making it side against the ground as she repeatedly failed to get inside.
"Fuck this shit, that's good enough" looking dishevelled like a tornado had targeted her in particular, as long as it held on, The Death Dealer considered it a win, she also searched the house for a weapon, that woman whose neck she wrecked had been alone in this house, but judging by a variety of details, Maliah could tell that this was a family's home.
After much searching, she found a sword of some kind hidden under a bed, the style was one she knew but which she had never been able to attribute to any region or society in particular.
'Mmh… Does it come from here originally?' having heard that the realm Ourlon was tackling possessed the traits of Tochi, she couldn't just brush it off as a coincidence, as it seemed like some realms had truly been well-linked to the main world and had allowed for these hidden places to pour their culture and crafts into the wider plane.
'Heh, maybe that's why there are so many ways of power…' she carefully inspected the sword, her armoury was an innate ability of great power, and it was what allowed her to form her style of sudden and rapid shifts between weapons of all kinds, but it seemed that its spatial nature was subdued in this place.
She had tried to access it only to feel like she was attempting to stick her hand through an indestructible, elastic membrane.
The sword in question was typically referred to as a 'jian', Maliah did not know if the name they used was the one used in this realm, but it was undeniable under her expert eyes that it was indeed that precise type of blade.
Whoever created it was clearly immensely skilled, not that it mattered much, it would still be a flimsy thing in her hands, she would have to hold back immensely so as to not shatter it to pieces on the first strike.
In any case, that was all she needed from this house, now, she needed to find out where in damnation Loimos was at, although he should be in some random person's body at the moment, she felt confident in recognising him.
Exiting through the front door, casually walking over the woman's corpse, she suddenly stopped.
"I thought I would find you here, a sudden death had to be your doing"
"Loimos?"
"That is me"

"What the hell?" the assassin covered her mouth with one hand, looking the undead up and down, once, twice and a few more times for good measure.
"Why do you look like that?" she ended up asking, indeed, he had clearly said that he was going to take possession of a nearby living, but that didn't quite make sense with what she was seeing.
Now, the body he was currently piloting was definitely alive, that was for sure, but was just as tall as the skeleton had been prior, possessed the same uncanny rows of pointy fangs as well, on top of his odd, deep purple eyes that were a perfect match for the light that would sometimes emerge from his hollow sockets.
In fact, she felt that his overall body followed his skeletal disposition nicely as though he had just been wrapped in flesh and skin.
He also has somewhat long, pitch black hair, but moreover.
"Why the hell are you hot?! That's even worse than when you turn into a tangled mess of heads and limbs!"
"Unfortunately, despite my best attempt, when I destroy the original owner's soul and such to take over, their body naturally adapts to its new host no matter how much I try to prevent it, the people here are closely tied to their soul, after all" he explained with a most deadpan expression, which was another awfully creepy thing, Loimos's emotionless word delivery and utter lack of unnecessary movements was absolutely not meant to be paired with an actual living body and facial expressions.
It was like his eyes were those of a fish, and he just stared straight through her whilst moving his jaw up and down in the most efficient manner possible, that sight was so horrifying, it could probably kill people.
"I see… Can you at least pretend to be a normal living?" she asked, walking up to him, wondering if this was what he was supposed to look like had he been alive at some point instead of just popping into existence all rotten and bony.
"I certainly can" he flashed a most convincing smile at her, making even The Death Dealer skin crawl.
"Abort! That's even worse than the alternative, just stay all emotionless, alright?" people would probably be fooled by that incredible acting skill, but Maliah knew Loimos, and it was genuinely horrifying to behold.
Loimos had also found himself some clothing and a jian sword as well, seemed like they were rather common items to own here.
"As I explained earlier, the people of this realm have their own, unique ways of power, which naturally relate to their souls due to the abundance of ambient soul energy" he reiterated, helping Maliah fix her poorly worn clothing, it somehow felt weirder to get touched by him when he looked like a handsome, non-rotting cadaver than as his skeletal self, but she accepted the assistance whilst he continued explaining.
"Technically, there are six different ways of power used in this realm, but one is used as an accessory to the others" Loimos had naturally acquired as much information as possible before actually delving into this realm.
Although, there were things that even he had not been able to learn much about, which was why he had taken Maliah along for the ride in the first place, her uniqueness that wasn't matched by any living or undead he knew made her a powerful asset anywhere, the strength she possessed was universal and deeply tied into her very being, so the assassin could hardly be suppressed by any odd quirks or differing laws of the realms.
And since life was considered the 'default' in the majority of the world and realms still, her being a living was also a great advantage.
"...This realm is divided into two separate sub-realms, one where the livings thrive on soul energy, and one where undeads dwell"
