Pestilence: Rise Of The Pure Undead-Chapter 635: Operation Polar Winds : Part Forty
The room wasn't that big, it certainly was spacious but not enough for someone to b capable of hiding from so many trained undead soldiers, all lights within the room were even snuffed out every light to ensure that nothing was being missed, still, nothing came up, there wasn't even a whiff of the owner's life force around, only remnant of creatures they had taken apart into pieces.
In fact, everything was so immaculately clean and perfect, that the best proof of someone's presence recently were shedded antlers.
'Just like those that were found in the water…' albeit in a better state, Alkayne could tell that the antlers that sat at the bottom of the water and these ones had grown on the same head, they were rather slender and small, well-groomed as well, clearly, even if living in a cave and being a hexer, that person was a very refined individual that did not forget to take care of themselves.
'Did they abandon this place and run away? Did that encounter with the golems earlier convince them that we were too much of a threat?' it would be a shame, but not illogical if the hexer believed that the undeads were more than they could chew and simply decided to not engage in further conflicts.
'But they should know that we are well on our way to conquering every portion of this realm, even if they believed that it was useless, surely, they would attempt to fight back in some capacity…' at least, if Alkayne was in a similar situation, he wouldn't surrender or try to run away knowing that it wouldn't solve the issue.
Just as he thought this, the zombie felt something odd, he had not retracted the gentle cold wind he had been using to find his way through this natural labyrinth, and he had used it just now to scour for any anomaly through this room, and since no one had found any hex of any kind besides the ones on the door, but they had already determined that they were merely meant as utility and not dangerous.
But just then, it was like someone who had been standing right by him since the very beginning as just made a sudden movement, that impression vanished as quickly as it appeared, but did not stop the minor lord from striking, before it was determined whether his strike would connect or go through empty air however, the ground beneath everyone's feet disappeared.
Popped out of existence, as simply as that, causing all to be dragged down, the fall was a short one however, the undeads landed upon a rather unstable piece of thick ice, swaying in the water as they all landed on their feet, the ground that had vanished reappeared, enclosing them into this strange area, which was perfectly lit up with many bright torches.
Despite the fact that Alkayne and every other undead had been close to one another when it happened, everyone somehow landed a fair distance from one another, especially Alkayne who was dozens of meters away from anyone else, his knights had also been further isolated than the soldiers were.
"Huh, was the hex for that disappearing floor hidden underneath?" not panicked at all, he turned to a visibly empty area, but the jig was up, and something that had been invisible down to perfection suddenly popped into existence, holding one arm as blood tainted the white fur they wore.
It would appear that the zombie had reached his target, somehow, the bleeding rendered the invisibility nearly useless as it was something that whatever was responsible for this ability did not cover for.
"Kue?" the being, or rather, person he was addressing tilted their head, not understanding a word of what was being said, before saying something themselves, which Alkayne did not understand a word of either.
'Weird, the blessing of comprehension seems completely useless with this language' General Loimos had run into a few tongues that refused to bend to this stolen, divine blessing, but Alkayne had heard that one would at least feel the blessing try to do something.
There, it was just like the symbol upon the totem, nothing was happening, as though it wasn't recognised as a language at all.
'Well… I suppose that the only sort of things even deities don't trifle with would be… Things like the realm of Hell and the Abyss, probably a few other things as well… Or maybe it's because that language is unique to that person?' he directed his halberd toward his opponent, and rather than speaking the pale tongue and relying on the blessing, he directly used the pale tongue to utter words in the kalt language.
"Who are you?" he asked a simple question, normally, few would be opposed to answering that, and since his opponent seemed a bit worried about their bleeding arm, he wagered that they would be willing to waste some time before actually fighting.
As he did so, golems began dropping from the ceiling and emerging from the water, bringing turmoil to the piece of ice, all sorts were there, humanoid, beast-like, the werebear from before, but also some emulating kalt paladins, accursed and most strikingly, one that looked just like the Schneebiest.
"I…" the enemy seemed to take some time to find the proper words with that language "...I am Jormunal, Priestess Of Dame-Sommer…"
Jormunal removed the hand covering the cut, it had stopped bleeding, a symbol meaning that an hex had been placed upon the wound was to be seen directly atop the wooden fur she wore.
"Pleasure to meet you, would you be interested in becoming a noble servant of death and putting your skills to the one, right cause?"
"Do… You mean dying?"
"That is part of the introduction to undeath, yes"

"I would rather not"
The golems and soldiers clashed, without proper formations, it was a messy battlefield in its first few seconds, but Alkayne's soldier knew better and focused on regrouping rather than fighting for the moment, weaving and evading through the golems whilst the knights pushed back the stronger hex-creations.
Alkayne looked Jormunal up and down, she rather odd living, he immediately sensed that something was off with her life force and indeed, her body was covered in hexes, but not the kind meant to turn her into an incredibly powerful force to be feared, but rather to keep herself from wasting away.
The only reason blood still flowed through the deer-skulled woman's body was because a hex was keeping her heart beating, and that many others ensured that rot and decay didn't overtake the flesh.
That was heresy for her to be so awfully attached to life, but nonetheless impressive work.
Holding out the hand not grasping his halberd, Alkayne didn't hesitate to manifest one of the gifts he had received from General Loimos, a tall, spectral standard appeared and without wait, he trusted it into the ground, and it was like the very core of each of his soldiers was set ablaze with potent death force.
Then, carried by frigid winds and enhanced by necrotic lightning, he surged forward, slashing diagonally at the living, who swiftly moved out of the way.
A bolt falling from above, seemingly inescapable as she ice caused her to slide a little bit after moving.
Seeing the result, Alkayne decided that this much was enough probing around and launched himself forward without restraint.
