Pestilence: Rise Of The Pure Undead-Chapter 499: After-Victory Casualness
"The soothing dancers and singers are more efficient than I thought…" standing beside his fellow, Horhir commented, in the end, neither him nor Ourlst had needed to get involved with striking forces, as their general had predicted, Maliah had acted like smoke being pushed down a cave and forced the residents to flee to the surface.
Ourlst had already pinned down every single area the southerners had appeared at during their guerilla warfare and positioned troops at each spot ahead of time, leaving them no chances.
Once more, the jaw giving in to a realm of dark opened up, from which The Death Dealer emerged whilst dragging what looked very much like a corpse at a glance, but all undeads could sense the life still within.
This portal remained open, allowing for troops to go in, it was important to collect all of the corpses left behind, the realm this gateway gave into was one of nothing but a flatground and total obscurity, access to which was a courtesy of King Nitok, allowing for rapid travel and to access areas that are technically unreachable physically.
"Ah, if it isn't Hirhor and Oust! You guys really ought to get some change in wardrobe, looks weird for the main lieutenants to look exactly like all other knights, don't you think?" Maliah dropped the warking to the ground, who was swiftly taken away by other undeads, as asked, she had not killed him despite really wanting to.
"That's not- No matter, it was a great job, everything went according to plan, thank you for your help, Miss Maliah" both motioned at her with the one-handed prayer sign.

"Oh, so that's how it is done! Can't believe I forgot something so simple!" walking away whilst laughing way too much, it had been none of them who had thought to ask her assistance, not because getting livings to help was not something they would do, but simply because they were wholly uncertain just how reliable she was.
But clearly, their general had trust for her.
Looking up, Horhir pointed at the great beast still drifting across the sky, its majesty had to rival, the melody it emitted simply unparalleled in beauty.
"I had never seen this one before, do you know what it is? A senior beast of Loimos?" wondered the right hand, that undead creature was clearly of a different level compared to all of the beasts and monsters he had gotten to witness before, which was saying something, due to his rank, Horhir often went and checked over many troops and especially the newer additions, yet, he had never met with anything resembling that.
"I don't know either, it looks like it is closely affiliated with the soothing caste, but it was General Loimos who personally sent it out, this might the first time this beast got to fly about and do its thing" Ourlst began walking toward the still open portal, deeming that this was simply one of the undeads that Loimos personally watched over and trained, whilst the instructors handled the training for all castes, it was still the general who created new ones and took care of the more exceptional candidates.
The both of them stepped through, walking for a little while through the absolute dark in which they could sense everything with incredible acuity, heading for another opening that gave in to a similarly utterly dark space, although they appeared the same in looks, the darkness inside the realm and within the cave was entirely different, one was older, more primordial.
Existing in a place where light would be devoured, where they ended up however, it was young and without a firm hold, once light manifested itself, the darkness would part and make way, still, both of the lieutenants appreciated this utter lack of shine anyways, it was easy to take the land and oceans under undead dominion for granted, there, most of it was drowned in immaculate dark.
It could be a shock when one had enjoyed it for long to suddenly step into not only light-filled territory, but also land that was brimming with life instead of death.
"The place hasn't completely caved in, thankfully…" Ourlst said.
"Why thankful? I thought it was expected that it would have crumbled after Miss Maliah's fight" Horhir stepped up next to his fellow.
"It's just a good thing…"
"Oh you! You promised something before you knew Maliah was going to be around, didn't you?"
Taken aback by Horhir's sudden perspicacity.
"And it looks like you've worked on your shrewdness since getting reprimanded by Sir Loimos…"
The right hand acted like he heard nothing.
"...But yes, one could say that I aim high, both in my professional endeavours, and personal!" declared Ourlst.

"Personal affairs? You had my attention, but now you have my interest- What is it?" walking a distance away from the other undeads that were actually working, the hands of Loimos discussed.
"Well, you remember that Sir Loimos introduced a new method for us to multiply, yes?"
"Indeed, hard to forget, it is sort of historical… Oh, that's what this is about?" now, he was very interested.
"Long story short, I sort of promised Lord Yuolrt that I would reserve this cave for her to do what she wanted" revealed the knight, causing Horhir to lift his visor, revealing his putrescent face, upon which no expressions could be read, but the point of the manoeuvre was obvious to his interlocutor.
"What?"
"That's it? You do realise that this is not very telling about your intentions, right? Lord Yuolrt literally works everywhere, you telling her about an already reserved spot will just be viewed as you preparing ahead of time, we are both going to be in charge of overlooking everything on the continent too, looks purely professional to me" Horror shook his head.
"You think so?"
"Yes"
"That's a shame…"
"But you weren't joking about aiming high, perhaps you should tone it down a bit…"
"Are you implying that I can't convince her to be my partner in the creation of a new undead?"
"I am not, I am outright saying it, all the minor lords are busy people and producing a new undead is a bit lengthy, and pulls on ones death force the whole time, you should do like everyone else and ask Alisiana to find you a priestess with some time on her hands"
"Huh… I didn't know Alisiana did some pairings… You partook already?" Ourlst crossed his arms.
"Me? No…" Horhir meanwhile, closed his visor.
"But surely, you are seeking to do your part and be of help in expanding the population, after all, the two undeads taking part do have some influence on how powerful the undeadling will be, so it wouldn't be proper for us to just ignore it" Ourlst reminded his brethren, it was a fact that the majority of undeads who had taken part in it had just wanted to be of help to the empire by bolstering its numbers, those who did it for another reason were few and followed other standards.
"Obviously! But there is time…"
"What's the name?"
Horhir could only relent, in between the two of them, it was Ourlst who was still the shrewdest.
"...Ir'Houwl…"
"And you tell me to aim lower? Because in between Lord Yuolrt and Lord Ir'Houwl, one is a bit more approachable"
"I strongly disagree, but our fellows are starting to look at us weird, so let's actually get to work"
"Very well, we do have much to do, we need to set where the architects are to start work first…"
Ending their initial conversation, the two lieutenants had to begin the after-war tasks, as the remaining region was not for them to subjugate.
Their general was probably, either already in the Northern Swamp, or was going to arrive when the sun would rise, which might just be the very last time it did.
