Chapter 90: My Academy

The morning sun had climbed higher by the time Aurelion reached the great avenue that led to the Imperial Academy.

The carriage had left him near the entrance road, and from there he continued the rest of the way on foot. The wide stone path stretched forward like a ceremonial road, lined on both sides by towering trees whose branches formed a natural arch overhead. Their leaves shimmered softly under the sunlight, casting scattered shadows across the white stone pavement.

Dozens of students walked along the same road. Some moved in small groups, laughing nervously as they talked about the coming term. Others carried stacks of books or luggage, clearly new arrivals still adjusting to the scale of the academy.

Aurelion walked quietly among them. His dark coat moved slightly with the breeze as he made his way toward the distant gates. Ahead, the entrance of the Imperial Academy slowly came into view.

It was enormous. Two towering pillars of white marble stood at the entrance, rising nearly thirty meters into the air. Aurelion used an already existing academy to built it, which gave the exposure of long years of experience. Between them hung a massive archway bearing the academy’s crest—a circular emblem depicting an open book surrounded by a blazing star.

Above the archway stretched a wide iron gate, its surface engraved with delicate magical inscriptions designed to regulate the flow of mana entering the campus. Students passed beneath it constantly.

Guards stood beside the entrance as well, though their purpose seemed more ceremonial than defensive. The academy had its own security system, a complex network of magical barriers that protected the grounds. Beyond the gate, the academy complex expanded into a sprawling city of knowledge.

Tall towers of pale stone rose above the grounds, connected by elegant bridges that crossed open courtyards and flowing water channels. Libraries, lecture halls, training arenas, and research facilities spread across the vast campus.

Aurelion paused briefly at the gate. He stepped forward and passed through the entrance. The moment he crossed the gate, the atmosphere changed slightly. Mana flowed differently inside the academy grounds.

It was subtle, but noticeable to anyone trained in magic. The magical field surrounding the academy was carefully balanced, allowing students to practice safely without risking uncontrolled mana surges.

Aurelion walked deeper into the campus. A wide central path stretched ahead, leading toward the main academic towers. Along the sides were gardens, statues of famous scholars, and large open lawns where students gathered to talk or read.

As he continued walking, a familiar voice suddenly called out from behind him. "Aurelion!" He stopped. Turning slightly, he saw a girl pushing her way through a small crowd of students toward him.

It was Mira. Her long hair bounced slightly as she hurried across the courtyard. She carried several books in her arms and looked slightly out of breath when she finally reached him. "You’re actually here!" she said. Aurelion raised an eyebrow. "You doubted it?"

"Well..." she hesitated. "You’ve been away for a long time." Aurelion replied. "That doesn’t mean I forgot the academy exists which I created." Mira laughed softly before adjusting the books in her arms. "You look different," she said, studying him carefully. "So do you." He said.

Yeah, So after Me and Rowan left. Mira dedicated her whole time to studying. So, when I built this 4 years ago, she has been here from then.

Mira walked beside him as they continued toward the inner courtyard. "Are you nervous?" she asked. "About what?" Aurelion reacted. "The academy." She continued. Aurelion chuckled. "Not particularly." Mira sighed. "You’re the only person I know who can say that."

They walked together for a few minutes, passing students who occasionally glanced curiously at the pair. Then another voice suddenly interrupted them. "Well, well." A tall figure stepped forward from the shade of a nearby pillar.

It was Rowan. He leaned casually against the stone column, arms crossed as he watched Aurelion approach. "You finally showed up, your highness." Aurelion stopped in front of him. "You were waiting here?" Rowan shrugged. "Someone had to make sure you didn’t get lost."

Rowan pushed himself off the pillar. Now that he stood properly in the light, it was clear how much he had changed over the years as well. He was taller now, broader across the shoulders, and the relaxed confidence in his posture suggested years of training had hardened him into a capable fighter.

The three of them began walking again. The path widened as they approached the main academic plaza—a large circular courtyard at the center of the academy. Fountains filled the space with the soft sound of flowing water, while several statues of legendary scholars stood along the edges.

Students gathered everywhere. Some sat on the grass reviewing notes, while others excitedly discussed their schedules for the semester. Then someone else noticed them. "Aurelion?" The voice came from near the fountain. A girl with long dark violet - black strands of hair turned toward them.

It was Evelyn. She walked quickly across the courtyard, her expression shifting from surprise to curiosity as she joined the group. "I thought I saw you," she said. "It’s been a while." Evelyn studied Aurelion carefully. "You’ve changed."

"Why does everyone keeps telling me that today?" Aurelion said annoyingly. The four of them stood together for a moment, drawing a few curious glances from nearby students. Then Evelyn tilted her head slightly.

"Wait." Her eyes moved over Aurelion’s outfit again. "Why is your uniform different?" Rowan and Mira noticed it too. Their uniforms followed the typical academy design—dark jackets with silver trim. But Aurelion’s coat was different.

The embroidery was more elaborate. And the insignia on his chest was not the student emblem. Evelyn crossed her arms. "Are you in some special program or something?" Aurelion looked at them calmly. For a moment he said nothing. Then he answered.

"It’s because I’m a professor."

The courtyard went silent. Mira blinked. Rowan stared. Evelyn froze completely. "...What?" Aurelion adjusted his coat slightly as if he had just stated something completely normal. "I’ll be teaching here this term."

Rowan burst out laughing. "You guys did not know." Mira looked between them. "Wait... You’re serious?" Aurelion nodded.Evelyn stared at him with disbelief.

Aurelion turned toward the main academic tower again. "Well," he said calmly, "we should head inside." The group followed him. Still trying to process what they had just heard. And as they walked deeper into the academy grounds—

the first day of the new term had only just begun.
