PERFECT REINCARNATION : Being Invincible in Another World-Chapter 84: Core Guardian
The Cave of Gloomfang Hollows shook in action. The Group had recently completed their new victory. A relic. narrow dagger-like weapon. Its metal shimmered faintly with a dull crimson glow. Ancient runes covered its surface. Aurelion turned to the Sanctuary Guardian. "... What is this Relic? What’s the significance of it?"
The Sanctuary Guardian’s golden eyes flickered toward the relic resting in Rowan’s hand, the faint flame within its chest glowing a little brighter as it regarded the ancient weapon. Its deep voice echoed through the ruined chamber like grinding stone. "That blade... was forged in the first days of this sanctuary," it said slowly. "A relic shaped from sacred metal tempered within eternal flame. Its edge bears the runes of binding fire, allowing it to cut not only flesh and stone, but the very flow of mana itself. The weapon was crafted slender and light so that its wielder may move swiftly, yet its core holds a fragment of the sanctuary’s flame, granting it the power to pierce even the heart of a dungeon. The crimson glow within the metal is the mark of that ancient fire, and the runes along its spine awaken only for one recognized by the flame." The Guardian paused for a moment, its burning gaze lingering on the weapon before it spoke again, its voice resonating with solemn certainty. "That relic is known as Emberfang."
"... Emberfang." Rowan repeated as he stood in awe, just mesmerized by the relic he found. Sally was just chuckling as if whole situation was amusing for her. Aurelion pondered hard, then he finally asked the guardian. "...And what’s with the groaning in the Core of the dungeon.?"
"When the sanctuary fell and the sacred flame was lost, the mana beneath this land did not fade. Instead, it gathered... slowly, endlessly, feeding upon the remnants of the altar and the forgotten prayers carved into these stones. Over centuries, that wandering mana condensed into a heart of power — what you now call the dungeon core. But such power cannot remain unguarded. The core shapes protectors from the very energy that sustains it. Thus, the Core Guardian was born." The ancient construct’s voice grew heavier as it continued. "Formed from crystallized mana and the shattered stone of this sanctuary, it rises whenever the core senses those who would threaten its existence. Its body is forged from hardened mana and ancient rock, its strength drawn directly from the core itself. As long as the core endures, the guardian may rise again and again, shaped by the dungeon’s will to defend the heart that gives it life."
I SEE, SO HE IS LIKE THE HIDDEN BOSS OF THIS DUNGEON. Aurelion pondered.
"So, Is there any exit route connected to that chamber?" Aurelion asked the guardian. The Sanctuary Guardian’s golden core shimmered as its gaze shifted toward the depths beneath the altar, where the dungeon’s power gathered. Its voice rolled through the chamber like distant thunder grinding through stone. "... There is an exit route which appears exactly behind the guardian after defeating him. When the guardian falls , the path will appear." Aurelion turned backwards, he glanced around and then gave a command. "... Sally and Rowan, let’s end it for all now."
With the relic secured and the shattered altar now quiet once more, the group stepped away from the ruined platform. The faint golden glow that had filled the sanctuary slowly dimmed behind them, leaving only the cold purple light of the dungeon moss to guide their path. Aurelion led the way toward the newly revealed passage beneath the altar, its ancient stone walls carved into a narrow tunnel that descended deeper into the heart of the dungeon. The air grew heavier with mana the further they walked, pressing faintly against their senses like an unseen tide. Rowan tightened his grip around the relic in his hand, feeling its warmth pulse faintly with every step, while Sally moved ahead with quiet curiosity, her eyes scanning the dark corridor. The tunnel finally widened before them, opening into a vast underground chamber where jagged crystal formations rose from the ground like frozen lightning. At the center of that chamber floated a massive sphere of swirling energy — the dungeon’s core — radiating a dense, humming power that filled the entire cavern. The group had finally reached the heart of Gloomfang Hollow.
The moment they stepped fully into the core chamber, the air shifted. The humming power radiating from the dungeon core deepened into a low vibration that seemed to resonate through the stone beneath their feet. At first the chamber remained still, the massive sphere of swirling mana hovering silently at the center of the cavern while crystal formations around it pulsed faintly with reflected light. Then the core reacted. A sharp pulse of energy burst outward, rippling through the air like an invisible shockwave. The surrounding crystals trembled, and fragments of mana gathered together before the core, condensing into a swirling vortex of light and stone dust. Rowan instinctively tightened his grip on the relic blade, his eyes fixed on the forming shape. The energy slowly solidified, layers of crystal and rock fusing together as if sculpted by an unseen hand. Within moments, a towering figure emerged from the glowing storm of mana.
The Core Guardian stood nearly three times Rowan’s height, its body a fusion of jagged crystal armor and dark stone forged from the dungeon itself. Thick plates of obsidian-like rock formed the base of its structure, layered like ancient armor across its shoulders, chest, and limbs. Between those plates, sharp crystalline growths erupted outward, glowing faintly with the same blue-violet energy that pulsed from the dungeon core behind it. These crystals spread across its body like natural weapons, forming spines along its back and jagged edges along its forearms that resembled enormous blades. The creature’s limbs were long and powerful, its legs rooted firmly into the cavern floor like pillars carved from living rock, while its arms ended in massive clawed hands capable of crushing stone. Every movement produced the grinding sound of crystal scraping against stone.
At the center of its chest burned a condensed mass of swirling mana — a miniature reflection of the dungeon core itself. The glowing heart pulsed rhythmically, sending streams of energy through the veins of crystal embedded across its body. Each pulse caused the surrounding crystals to flicker brighter for a brief moment, as though the guardian drew its strength directly from the core behind it. Its head rose slowly, shaped like a crowned helm of fractured crystal with jagged horns sweeping backward. Within the hollow darkness beneath that crown, two blazing lights ignited — its eyes, burning with cold intelligence rather than mindless rage.
As the guardian fully formed, the cavern responded. The dungeon core brightened, and the crystal pillars around the chamber echoed with faint vibrations, as if acknowledging the protector that had been summoned. The creature stepped forward once, its massive foot striking the ground with enough force to send cracks spidering across the stone floor. Shards of crystal shifted along its body as it straightened to its full height, towering before the intruders like a living monument of the dungeon’s will. It raised its head toward Aurelion, Rowan, and Sally, the glowing heart in its chest burning brighter as the mana in the chamber gathered around it like a storm waiting to break. The guardian had awakened, and the dungeon itself now stood between them and its core.
The Core Guardian moved first. With a grinding roar of stone and crystal, it lunged forward, its massive arm sweeping across the chamber like a falling wall. Rowan barely ducked beneath the strike as the blow shattered a cluster of crystal pillars behind him, shards exploding across the cavern floor. The relic in his hand pulsed warmly, urging him forward. Remembering the Guardian’s core, he rushed in, slashing at the crystal veins along its arm, the blade Emberfang carving through mana-hardened stone where normal steel would have shattered. The creature retaliated with brutal force, its claw crashing down again and again, forcing Rowan to leap and roll across the cracked ground to avoid being crushed. Sally darted through the battlefield like a streak of light, her fists colliding with the Guardian’s crystal armor and sending fractures spreading across its body. Each strike of hers echoed like thunder through the cavern. Meanwhile, Aurelion moved with calm precision, his sword flashing as he severed the Guardian’s limbs and shattered the jagged spikes along its back, weakening its structure piece by piece. As the creature staggered under the relentless assault, Rowan saw his opening. With Sally’s final strike forcing the Guardian to its knees and Aurelion cleaving away the armor around its chest, the glowing heart of condensed mana was finally exposed. Rowan surged forward and drove Emberfang straight into the core. The relic blazed with crimson light as it pierced the swirling energy, and for a moment the entire cavern went silent. Then the core shattered. Cracks raced across the Guardian’s body as its crystal veins dimmed, the massive construct collapsing into lifeless rubble with a thunderous crash that echoed across the chamber. The protector of the dungeon had fallen, and the path to the heart of Gloomfang Hollow now lay open before them.
