Chapter 72: The Ranks

The night at the Royal Castle was going smoothly that was until Aurex decided that the peaceful environment of the dinner table is too meh for him. And started with his declaration of seeing Rowan as unworthy of being his personal Knight.

"... A D rank might be too muc—" Aurex cut Aurelion in the middle of his sentence. "... It seems then we are on the same page on that boy being unworthy then."

Aurelion stood in his pride, "... Fine, if you doubt my judgement of people that much, then I must prove it to you tomorrow that only I am the person who can select my people." He replied with amplifying his tone.

"STOP IT, BOTH OF YOU." Selene shouted. Both Aurex and Aurelion turned with lightning speed thinking they were going to get scolded. "The food is getting cold." She said. Both of them started laughing, the situation took an amusing and comical turn. Selene started laughing herself. "... So, why are we laughing again?" She asked. No one replied just smiled at Selene. Aurelion then turned back to Aurex, thought about his ambitious boasting. 𝒇𝓻𝓮𝓮𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝓬𝓸𝒎

HEHE, I WAS GOING TO SAY THAT A D-RANK MAGICAL BEAST MIGHT BE TOO EASY FOR HIM TO DEFEAT WITH HIS CLICHE NOVEL BACKGROUND. I WAS ABOUT TO SAY A C-RANK BUT FATHER MADE THINGS EASY FOR ME. Aurelion cooked in his mind.

In this world, magical beasts were not random creatures roaming the wilderness without order. Scholars, hunters, and imperial guilds had long ago established a clear ranking system to measure the threat and power of these beings. The classification ranged from F Rank, the weakest category, to the terrifying SSS Rank, creatures so powerful that entire kingdoms treated their existence as natural disasters rather than animals. At the lowest end were F Rank beasts, small and mostly harmless creatures that had only faint traces of mana in their bodies. Many resembled ordinary animals, though they might possess slightly stronger instincts or minor magical quirks. Farmers and travelers occasionally encountered them, but even untrained people could drive them away.

Above them were E Rank beasts, which showed clearer signs of mana influence. These creatures were more aggressive and often developed simple magical abilities such as hardened claws, minor elemental breath, or unnatural endurance. Adventurers and beginner hunters usually trained themselves by dealing with threats at this level. D Rank beasts were considered the first true danger to ordinary settlements. They were physically stronger, capable of organized territorial behavior, and sometimes displayed limited intelligence when hunting prey. Villages located near forests or mountains often requested guild assistance whenever such beasts appeared.

The threat rose sharply with C Rank beasts, creatures that possessed powerful mana cores and could manipulate elemental energy with far greater control. At this stage, even trained soldiers approached them cautiously. B Rank beasts were considered elite predators, often dominating entire regions as apex creatures. These beings could overwhelm groups of experienced fighters and sometimes required specialized hunting parties to bring down.

Beyond them stood A Rank beasts, monsters whose power rivaled elite knights and veteran mages. Their bodies were often enhanced by centuries of accumulated mana, giving them unnatural resilience and destructive abilities that could reshape terrain during battle. However, even A Rank was not the peak of fear in the world. Above it were the rare and terrifying S Rank beasts, creatures so powerful that their appearance could threaten entire cities. They possessed overwhelming mana reserves and often displayed near-human intelligence.

Finally came the legends: SS and SSS Rank beasts. These were not simply monsters but living catastrophes. Only a handful had ever been recorded in history, each tied to myths, ancient wars, or forgotten ages. When one appeared, nations did not send hunters. They prepared armies.

The Stupid Author of "Oh my Lovely Knight" was still sane enough to at least explain this in his plot. Though the story was hardly impacted by it because of its small coverage of area and staying restricted in it’s own radius. Aurelion on the other hand, was a free bird. He could explore the world without being restricted.

Not only this, The continent had a ranking of people too. Across the entire continent, strength was not left to rumor or personal boasting. For generations, the great academies, guild councils, and imperial observers had maintained an official ranking known as The Celestial Hundred. This list recorded the one hundred strongest individuals on the continent, regardless of their origin or allegiance. Mages, aura swordsmen, knights, wanderers, even reclusive hermits could appear on it if their power was undeniable. The rankings were updated whenever a significant battle, tournament, or verified feat of strength occurred. Being listed on the Celestial Hundred was more than fame; it was recognition that a person had reached a level where their existence could influence wars and political balance. Those near the bottom were already considered legends in their own regions, while the figures within the top ten were treated almost like living myths, their names spoken with respect, caution, and sometimes fear.

Grand Duke Caelion, Emperor Aurex and his uncle, all had reached the rank 1 of the ranking at some point of time until they became too strong to ascend from it, though that is a matter for different time. Aurelion set his sight on the ranking to convince his father effectively. He decided that him and Rowan must in the near future enter the Celestial Ranking. He did not share any of this, with his Father and Mother for now.

The Dinner table finally got more quieter, the calm and peaceful environment was back. The Meal time had ended. The maids came and took the plates and silverware back. The Clean up was being done.

Everything was same as usual except Aurelion who had unleashed his Ambitions to the Continent’s peak. The Story of the ETERNAL PERFECTION EMPEROR and The Lurking Death had finally taken its first step. Only thing now remained was to polish their skills.
