Having completed their first job suppressing the terrorist force attacking Phregon III, Avery and his team moved on to the next one.

"Avery, I thought we agreed that you wouldn’t use micro missiles unless it was an emergency. Those things are expensive to replace, and you can only store eighteen in your armor at a time."

Kasandra’s voice came blaring through the comms within Avery’s power armor’s helmet.

When he had seen that the people of Stortbui Chemicals were in trouble, he had disregarded everything and sent out a full volley of six micro missiles to break up the terrorist forces.

In hindsight it had probably been overkill. Even just two of the missiles likely would have been enough to accomplish what he wanted.

"Okay, I’ll be more careful going forward. So, what’s the name of the company were heading to this time?" Avery said, quickly changing the subject.

"Zwarr Construction. They’ve got a contract to build multiple cities once the terraforming process is completed. Seems that these environmental extremists turned terrorists are really going after them." Ezra responded.

There were apparently more than five times the number of assailants this time compared to those that were attacking Stortbui Chemicals. Plus, there were over a dozen wearing power armor.

So far, the security personnel and employs had managed to hold out by using their heavy construction machinery as a bulwark to fight back, but there was only so long that they could last.

As a stroke of bad luck though, their staunch resistance was the main reason the Alliance Police had not sent any assistance yet.

When Avery and his team arrived, they found a fierce battle raging between the terrorist and construction bots ranging from large to small that were being controlled by the employees of Zwarr Construction. Find your adventure at novelbuddy

Of course, as durable as they were, the construction bots were lacking in any sort of real armaments. Some of them had saw blades and others could fire large bolts, but they were far from capable of mounting a true offensive against a group that had members wearing power armor.

The only thing keeping the terrorists from completely overwhelming their target was their inexperienced. It was obvious to anyone that knew how to fight that these individuals hardly knew how to use the weapons they had been given.

"Kasandra, Kaiden, give us some cover from up there. Ezra, follow me. There may be more of them this time, but we’ll dismantle them just like before."

Avery was confident that his team’s skills and equipment vastly outstripped their opponents. So long as they kept the battle’s momentum on their side, they were sure to win.

Abandoning all stealth, Avery bounded towards the terrorist’ formation, with Ezra right behind him.

Obviously, the nearly two hundred individuals noticed the massive suit of power armor rushing towards them swiftly positioned some of their forces to intercept.

Naturally, Avery did not just take the shots coming his way. With his laser rifle in one hand and laser cannon in the other, he opened fire without any restraint.

Flashes of light illuminated the road as Avery and the terrorists traded fire.

Several times Avery would push off against the ground with fast movements whenever he saw a more powerful weapon being aimed his way. As strong as the shields protecting his armor were, he had no desire to test how many laser cannon hits it could take.

Noticing this, another group of terrorists turned to face Avery.

All of them had rocket launchers over their shoulders, and they showed no restraint as they fired the explosive projectiles at Avery.

His previously dormant laser emitters popped out of the power armor’s shoulders and intercepted the dangerous weapons. Even Avery’s high-end power armor would be unable to take more than three hits from such dangerous explosives.

"Okay, a frontal assault might be a bit too much this time. Ezra, were taking cover." Avery said, realizing their current course of action would likely be unsuccessful.

The two of them ran into a side road as several devastating blasts consumed the road they had been fighting on.

Fortunately, they got away without issue, and Avery’s plan was already working.

His suit’s sensors detected several heat signatures approaching them. The terrorist had broken up their forces and sent eight of their power armor users along with fifteen others to finish Avery and Ezra off.

"They’re underestimating us if they think this will be enough to beat us." Ezra said, smirking as he holstered his laser pistols and pulled out his hard light halberd and shield.

At long range they were simply outgunned by their enemies’ numbers, but since a squad was closing in on them, it was the perfect opportunity to fight at close range where Avery and Ezra’s weapons could really shine.

The moment the first enemy wearing power armor came into view, Avery activated his thrusters and charged the unfortunate man.

His armor’s impact generator charged up, he threw a heavy punch with his right arm and broke through the lead terrorist’ defenses with a single hit.

Metal crumpled as the far cheaper medium power armor was unable to hold up to the full power strike from Avery’s Sterkur MK VIII.

Seeing Avery suddenly appear and take out their leader in a single hit, the other terrorists were frozen in shock for a couple seconds. They were supposed to be the ones doing the ambushing, not the other way around.

Of course, Avery was hardly going to give them time to regain their bearings and dove into the middle of the front line composed of those wearing power armor.

His suit was far large and stronger than any of theirs, and Avery was able to completely bully them with his Sterkur’s strength.

One guy wearing light power armor tried to rush Avery and attack one of his joints but instead found himself knocked to the ground by a heavy swing of Avery’s laser launcher which he was wielding like a club.

Then without mercy, Avery stomped down on the man and crushed him like a tin can.

After losing half of their numbers, the terrorists finally started using their great agility to surround and slowly whittle down Avery. While Avery’s power armor was far stronger and more durable, it did lack in quickness. Other than momentarily bursts of speed using its thrusters, the Sterkur was fairly slow.

Still, Avery knew about this weakness and already had a countermeasure in place.

Now that they were no longer grouped up and their attention was wholly on Avery, Ezra leapt out like a red blur and started hacking the terrorists in power armor to pieces.

Their shields and planting could not even withstand a single hit from his hard light weapon. Its sharpness was unparalleled in the galaxy and there were few things it could not cut through.

Once Ezra had dealt with most of the remining power armored individuals, Avery was free to take care of the others.

They were equipped with laser rifles, but their weapons’ output was not nearly strong enough to break through the Sterkur MK VIII’s shields.

With one shot from his laser cannon, Avery vaporized most of them. Leaving behind only bits of their body armor and weapons.

As a last ditch effort, one of the terrorist pulled out a plasma grenade and was going to set it off despite the fact that he would surely be caught up in it as well.

Yet right before he could throw it, two streaks of light descended upon him. The first overloaded his personal shield generator, and the second blasted his entire arm off.

Assaulted by immense pain, he completely forgot about the weapon he had already armed until it went off right in his face.

White hot plasma flooded the small side road they had been fighting on, and the rest of the terrorists’ detached force was eliminated by one of their own weapons.

Thankfully, Avery and Ezra had already gotten far enough away to avoid the brunt of the plasma grenade’s blast radius, and only a small amount reached Avery’s power armor and was blocked by its shields.

"Thanks for the assist you two. I wasn’t expecting any of them to have something so dangerous." Avery said, turning his head up and looking at Kasandra and Kaiden preached on the roof of a nearby building.

Both of them gave Avery a quick nod of acknowledgement before jumping from one rooftop to another. Getting into position to take on the rest of the terrorist force assaulting Zwarr Construction.

"I suppose that we should make our way over as well. Though before that, how is your power armor doing?" Ezra asked, a hint of concern in his eyes.

"No need to worry. I’ve still got over eighty percent power, and my shields are holding strong. I might need a quick break after this, but I’m still good to go for another round." Avery responded confidently.

With that the two of them took off down the street to rejoin the main battle. It was time to put an end to this and finish the job they were being paid for.
