Chapter B4 Ch7: Lucy and Valerie

Lucy Shadowfell Darkrun was a sensitive sort, so seeing her husband’s daring adventures in the viewing mirror in Valerie Lovewar’s parlor was a rollercoaster of emotions for her.

She remained dressed in scarves, cowls, and cloaks above a gothic gown with full sleeves, gloves, and thick skull-crushing boots. Her body remained a mystery under all of those layers, but her friendship with Valerie was close enough where the Good Goddess had the rare honor of providing back massages to the Ultra Goddess.

There were no other servants around after the last batch was killed. That way, Lucy felt less embarrassed at having the rare pleasure.

It was still a scary ordeal for Valerie. Just being close to a vast source of corruption, regardless of the tears being held back, would be a little unnerving for most gods.

But the two were friends, to where they could watch Zarian and Para’s adventures in comfort while fooling around. Though most of that was a little bit at Valerie’s expense.

“Why am I doing this doll-sized?” Valerie grumbled as she hopped up and down along Lucy’s back while the larger goddess was laying supine on the high-quality sofa.

Lucy wriggled from underneath the hopping little goddess, recrossing her legs at her ankles, her big boots digging into the cushions. She didn’t really need a back massage, but she needed to relieve the pent-up emotions somehow.

Messing with the many worlds below God Land with her divine influence wasn’t enough. The transformation of the Doulos Enslavement System was still undergoing, but that was a distant project.

It wasn’t like she could change an entire universe over night, not while her ultra abilities were still under some restrictions.

“Technically, up in God Land, you’re both the size of worlds and the size of a mortal toy,” Lucy said. “You can’t truly judge dimensions very well up here.”

“Excuse me for not caring. I sort’ve moved on from those mortal constraints when I worked my way up to finally being one of the best good gods around. Which I’m about to betray soon.” Valerie added more fervor to her next bare-footed kicks down on Lucy’s spine.

From their perspective, it seemed like cute little efforts to stomp out some frustration. In the lower realms, a flick of Valerie’s toe at full power would’ve wiped out multiple worlds.

“Yes, you’re going to be a betrayer of good. But look on the bright side. You’ll become as scary as me, as Zarian, and as that Cal Everclaw person.”

Lucy waved her arm loosely up at the viewing mirror, and Valerie stopped kicking around to pay attention to the biggest event in the Star System’s long history.

They had a few replays flickering back and forth between Zarian and Para’s best moments.

Even at their God Rank and quality of power, seeing a Master Ranker demolish the competition and rack up so many points that the next contestants below couldn’t even combine their points to compete was astounding to watch.

Lucy’s favorite moments were when her husband and his parasite lost control of themselves and went on a full rampage. The bio meat mecha was cute, and it had only become cuter when Para was polymorphed into her current form that was growing stronger rapidly.

After the eventual defeat of the super dungeon, the discovery of another Ultra God had turned out to be an interesting affair.

“I can’t believe it.” Valerie called it quits and returned to her usual size. “There’s another one of you. Just like that. Someone else who can break the rules and make it all feel pointless.”

Lucy shifted around until she was sitting. She reached over and pulled Valerie into an embrace so the two friends could lounge on the cushions in each other’s arms.

Nobody else had such a privilege of being this close to Lucy, and despite how scary it was to be at the mercy of a corruptive goddess, Valerie leaned into it.

To be fair, it was a special occurrence. Nobody wanted to think of themselves as a pet, of course, but anyone else that wasn’t Lucy’s husband would’ve gotten twisted and turned into a toy by this point.

So, Valerie put aside her ego and played along.

“I’m more impressed with Zarian deciding to disengage and control his ultra instincts,” Lucy said. “It’s not an easy feat to pull off. Obvious challenges between Ultra Gods can get us riled up to a dangerous degree.”

“Seriously?” Lucy asked.

“Yes, dear. It’s more dangerous than universal or even multiversal gods getting into little scraps. At the highest tier, even when we’re reduced to smaller realms, the Ultra Gods young and old have come from such incredible strife that it’s concentrated into every fiber of our being.”

Lucy let out a sigh. “We are essentially the victors of chaos, evolution, change, challenge, and conflict that you cannot even hope to imagine. Even I, who is possibly the youngest Ultra Goddess around us, still have within me countless years of experience ingrained from my forbearers to myself.”

Lucy watched Valerie struggle to reconcile all of that.

Of course, the good goddess had to work hard and struggle long to reach the peak of universal power. It couldn’t just be handed to her. All she knew were the parameters in place by the Star System.

Even if she were to give birth to children with some divinity to them, they would still have to earn their place. And they could still be slain by rising mortals. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦

Ultra Gods were built differently.

“Then how can I be an Ultra Goddess?” Valerie asked quietly.

“First, you must become deeply cherished, involved, or considered by an Ultra God. To where you may gain their name or find yourself favored above most. Second, you become that Ultra God’s chosen one or disciple. Almost similar to when the Star System picks Chosen Ones, but at an even higher level.”

Wriggling around, Lucy readjusted her friend’s body until they were lying face to face. “From there, your chances of reaching Ultra Godhood shoot up significantly, especially if you’re divine already. You might never become as strong as me or other Ultra Gods who are well established, but you’ll get your foot in the proverbial door once you prove ready to go further beyond.”

Valerie sucked in a deep breath. She became softer and softer in Lucy’s arms despite being a proud warrior goddess.

With the Second Round about to start, and in the face of great tumultuous change, Valerie’s pride became a burden she would rather ditch for more power. She buried her face in her friend’s chest before glancing up with pleading silver eyes.

“When do I go and kill Kingsblood?” Valerie asked. “And, uh, if I become your disciple, do you need me to call you anything? Mistress? Milady? My Ultra Goddess? I’ll lay it on thick if you need me to.”

Lucy chuckled a little. “Soon, dear, soon. We’ll have to bide our time for when it’ll be most convenient. And I suppose you can call me whatever you want. I’ll still look at you as my friend.”

“Even with me being far beneath you?”

“It’s because you’re beneath me and you’re still willing to accept my particular nature that you have earned your position as more than a pet. Though you would make for a cute pet, too.”

“Meh. I’ll take being a friend!”

Lucy laughed. “Now, let’s pay our attention back to my husband. If you are to serve me, you must also understand you are in service to him, too.”

“I’ll have to call him Big Brother, won’t I?”

“Perhaps. It’ll be funny to watch his reaction to that.” Lucy would’ve left it at that until something in the lower realms caught her attention.

Honestly, there had been a lot going on down there, especially in the World of Castles and Caverns. But the tournament had taken precedent until it felt like her attention was terribly needed.

Valerie noticed the sharp change in Lucy’s demeanor and fretted a little. They had multiple skirmishes and wars going on down below in the lesser realms, and not all of it was amicable among their subjects.

It was obvious that Lucy held back a lot, or most of those battles would’ve ended with the Ultra Goddess’s outright victory. Valerie was a proud goddess, but she would have preferred Lucy letting her have some victories.

“What is it?” Valerie patched into the omniscience provided by the Star System and desperately searched for what could have drawn Lucy’s serious attention.

“My adopted daughter has become an unknown Master Ranker,” Lucy explained as the both of them watched even closer, as gods ought to do. “And she’s about to embark on a journey of vengeance that might see her dead.”

Valerie was about to say something when the demeanor of Lucy’s body and presence scared her silent. The warrior goddess shivered uncontrollably with no way to escape as Lucy’s grip on her became firm and unmovable, even if not painful.

Lucy laughed, her voice cracking slightly, almost on the verge of tears, but not quite. “How wonderful. How terrible. Foodie Darkrun, you will meet your true destiny for certain now.”

“Poor girl,” Valerie whispered under her breath.
