Chapter 199: Chapter 199: Prejudice

Julian Ford’s expression didn’t change much. He simply lifted his eyelids lightly and glanced at Ezra Ford.

Compared to his brother who inherited the advantages of their parents, Julian was more like their father in essence, with a similar stubbornness and cold-bloodedness. He wouldn’t compromise, and neither would Ezra.

"Suit yourself."

Julian withdrew his gaze and looked out the window.

"But let me kindly remind you, don’t do anything unnecessary. I don’t mind being an unfilial son who defies convention."

What exactly was unnecessary needed no clarification. It was nothing other than deliberately targeting Scarlett Shaw and the like.

Ezra let out a cold snort from his nasal cavity, speaking with disdain and arrogance, "I don’t have time to waste on irrelevant people!"

The fact that his son was ill was one thing, but it didn’t mean he would compromise on the feelings between Julian and Scarlett.

On the contrary, especially at times like these, it was more important to be wary of whether that woman had ulterior motives. Who knew if she was trying to take advantage of the situation and come after the Ford family’s interests?

Ezra’s gaze showed undisguised sarcasm, which Julian noticed. He spoke slowly in a calm voice:

"You better remember what you said, or else I suggest you try letting Ryan inherit the entire Ford family."

"..."

Anyone else seeing Julian’s lazy demeanor might naively assume that perhaps the eldest son of the Ford family was also besotted with love, willing to ignore the family business for a woman, which would be truly disappointing.

But Ezra wouldn’t think so.

If his son had the audacity to openly use those words to threaten him, then he was certainly prepared to deal with him. It was not a moment of recklessness.

Besides, the heir to the Ford family was undoubtedly, without any question, and could only be Julian.

No matter how chaotic the family became, or even if a scandal reached the heavens, this fact would not change.

"Now that your wings have grown, you’re even learning Ruzovian nesting doll techniques to threaten your father!"

One trick after another!

Trying to infuriate him!

Julian ignored these words, sitting in the wicker chair by the window, tilting his head down to watch the pedestrians on the ground.

After a few sunny days, Capitoline had welcomed the June rainy season.

Today, the rain hadn’t fallen yet, but dark clouds weighed down the sky. The gray heaviness gave a sense of an impending storm, making people uncomfortable.

"How did the visit to your second uncle’s new venture capital company in Cloud Harbor go last time?"

Ezra suddenly asked in a deep voice.

Julian had hurried back from Cloud Harbor previously, without visiting Ethan’s venture capital company personally. However, he still had Aaron Carson go on his behalf.

"The current main investment directions of that company are concentrated locally in Cloud Harbor and aren’t large in scale," Julian said. "They don’t currently conflict with Veridian’s business, but they do have collaborative links with some foreign research teams."

"It’s best for you to keep an eye on that company. Your second uncle is not to be judged by appearances; he is skilled at playing the fool while secretly plotting!"

Ezra’s gaze turned icy. 𝗳𝗿𝐞𝕖𝘄𝗲𝕓𝗻𝚘𝚟𝕖𝐥.𝚌𝕠𝕞

His second brother had the skills of a manipulative talker and enjoyed making underhanded moves. Who knew if this new venture capital company was eyeing Veridian with malicious intent?

"And don’t think that just because he’s supportive of your relationship with Scarlett, it means he’s a good person."

"He’s indifferent and detached. Saying a few nice words to you requires no effort, yet it can sow discord in the father-son relationship between you and me. Isn’t that exactly what your second uncle loves to do?"

Ezra considered it a well-intentioned reminder, thinking he was speaking logically and coherently.

However, Julian’s expression remained unchanged. "Our relationship, whether or not others try to interfere, is the same. Don’t flatter yourself."

Ezra: "..."

When it came to Scarlett, Julian wasn’t inclined to say another word to Ezra.

Prejudices in people’s hearts are like mountains.

Talking would be futile.

Besides, when did his and her relationship need the approval of these outsiders?

Seeing Julian’s disinterested and lazy demeanor, Ezra could only feel that his son was blinded by romance, unable to distinguish between reasonable words.

But as much as he was displeased, with only a week until his son’s surgery, Ezra didn’t want to create further unpleasantness and affect Julian’s mood and state.

So after saying a few words, he left the ward.

When Ezra left the hospital, the previously dark clouds became like water-soaked cotton. Heavy rain suddenly poured down, quickly creating large pools on the dry ground.

Unlike the drizzly spring and autumn rain of Capitoline, the summer rain was like a fierce beast.

It came with force, drenching one unexpectedly.

An assistant came promptly with an umbrella, the black umbrella firmly covering Ezra’s head.

From the inpatient building to the front of a Maybach.

Suits, leather shoes, not even a single strand of hair was wet.

A moment before getting into the car, a white Mercedes backed into a nearby parking space, and Scarlett got out from the driver’s seat. As she opened the umbrella, her eyes met Ezra’s cold gaze.

Ezra’s eyes moved from her face to the Mercedes.

The contempt in his eyes was glaringly obvious.

The BMW smashed by the thugs Liam Spencer brought had been able to be repaired and cleaned up, but Julian acted faster. A couple of days after that incident, Aaron Carson delivered this new car to her parking space.

Seeing the mockery and disdain in Ezra’s eyes, Scarlett politely addressed him as Director Ford and then walked towards the inpatient building.

The transparent umbrella and black umbrella brushed past each other.

Out of the corner of his eye, Ezra noticed Scarlett’s red eyes.

It seemed she didn’t want Julian to see her vulnerability, so she had been hiding to cry quietly.

The assistant holding the umbrella also noticed the redness in Scarlett’s eyes, as if she had gone through something heartbreaking.

To be honest, it was quite heart-wrenching.

So he couldn’t help but take another closer look. Under her short skirt, Scarlett’s knees were also grazed, the blood stains just dried, and the wounds hadn’t been treated.

Ezra saw these injuries too.

But his heart was cold; not only did he feel no normal sympathy, he even found it laughable.

What was the use of shedding a few tears for Julian?

She didn’t have to spend money or effort on Julian’s illness, nor did she need to use any connections. All she had to do was come to the hospital every day, perform an undying love act, and then comfortably enjoy all the generous resources Julian provided.

Who wouldn’t know how to do that?

The Maybach drove away from the hospital in the pouring rain, heading back to the Ford Mansion.

The butler approached respectfully to take Ezra’s suit jacket, whispering, "Sir, Mr. Spencer is waiting for you."

The Mr. Spencer mentioned by the butler was Liam Spencer’s father, who had visited Ezra previously.

Seeing Ezra approach, Mr. Spencer quickly got up from the sofa to greet him, "Director Ford."

Ezra glanced at him lightly, acknowledging with a nonchalant "President Spencer."

No one visits without a reason.

Mr. Spencer naturally wasn’t here just to say hello and get acquainted, but Ezra really wasn’t in the mood to entertain guests.

With his son’s life still hanging in the balance, he had no interest in the trivial affairs of any mundane matters or people.

So he didn’t even take a seat, stopping in place, looking at Mr. Spencer with a clear meaning in his eyes:

Say what you have to say, and get out if you don’t.
