Our Love Story: Hard to Guard Against the Sudden Love Strike-Chapter 294 - 290: Zane Forrester Gets Berated
Simon Forrester, who was brewing tea, glanced at Zane Forrester, his eyes seemed to say, "You’re in trouble."
He gestured towards the door, and Sienna Thornton followed him, walking with the air of the lady of the house.
The door opened, and the porch was packed with people.
Sienna Thornton hesitated for a moment, as Sylvia Langley had already brought the people inside.
The man leading the group looked quite young, dark-skinned, tall and sturdy, wearing a shirt with a prominent luxury brand logo, a designer belt, and white sneakers also from a luxury brand.
A platinum necklace with a large jade Guanyin pendant hung around his neck, and on his wrist was a Corum Golden Bridge watch with a diamond-encrusted dial and a brown crocodile leather strap; on his ring finger was a sizable ring set with gold and jade.
The two pieces of jade gleamed blindingly green, and Sienna estimated this man’s outfit to be worth at least two million. Though it wasn’t even half the price of a single Vacheron Constantin watch of Simon’s, it showed that Sylvia’s family was also quite wealthy.
Simon Forrester respectfully called the man "Uncle", and then greeted each of the men who followed, from "Second Uncle" to "Seventh Uncle".
Although Sienna Thornton didn’t join in calling out, she quickly took out the men’s guest slippers from beside the shoe cabinet for them to change into.
While the other uncles were changing shoes, the eldest uncle glanced at Sienna Thornton a few times and asked Simon Forrester, "Is this Rex’s wife?"
Before Simon Forrester could respond, Sylvia Langley, who was changing shoes next to him, hurriedly denied it, "No, no, she’s just a girlfriend."
Simon Forrester shot Sylvia Langley a look, then put his arm around Sienna Thornton and introduced her to everyone, "Uncles, this is my fiancée, Sienna Thornton."
Upon hearing this, Sylvia Langley shrieked, "What fiancée? Did I agree?"
As she spoke, she tried to pull her eldest brother aside to explain, but the eldest uncle ignored her. Instead, he patted Simon Forrester on the shoulder, glanced at Sienna Thornton, and laughed, "When you get married, your uncles will definitely come to support you!"
Sylvia Langley was about to jump, but the eldest uncle suddenly changed his expression and shouted into the house, "Where’s Zane Forrester? Is Zane here?"
Only then did Zane Forrester come over from the living room with a smile. Although there was a smile on his face, it was clear there was fear beneath it.
"If my brothers came, why didn’t you give me a heads up? I could have arranged a car to pick you up," Zane Forrester said politely.
The eldest uncle did not reciprocate his politeness and asked harshly, "I heard you beat up my sister last night?"
As he said this, he called the brothers behind him to come sit.
In a blink of an eye, the seven of them filled up the 4+2+1 seating area of the living room sofa.
Zane Forrester stood awkwardly.
Seeing this, Simon Forrester quickly went to bring over a dining chair for him to sit, and Sienna Thornton also went to get one for Sylvia Langley.
Zane Forrester sat in front of the TV, facing the seven Langley brothers and Sylvia Langley on the sofa, a scene that felt eerily familiar to Simon Forrester.
Wasn’t this just like a courtroom during a trial?
The judge and jury would sit in front of the defendant, the prosecutor, and the defense lawyer on either sides. Only today, Zane Forrester was without his defense lawyer, flanked by brothers-in-law waiting to scold him.
And his wife, Sylvia Langley, stood with her arms crossed, chin up, glaring at him.
Sienna and Simon, as juniors, were reluctant to interfere in the elders’ affairs and planned to retreat to their room, but Zane Forrester insisted they stay.
Probably fearing that the Langley brothers might beat him up later, at least having his son there might help hold them back.
So Simon Forrester sat with Sienna Thornton on the lounge chair by the floor-to-ceiling windows, closely watching the tense atmosphere about to erupt in the living room.
The eldest uncle sipped his tea and began, "Tell us, Zane Forrester, why did you hit my sister last night?"
Zane Forrester looked quite displeased, undoubtedly feeling as humiliated as when Old Master Forrester publicly chastised him at the feast last night.
Seeing him silent, the second uncle chimed in, "This is called domestic abuse, do you know that? You could get locked up for this, you know?"
The third uncle said, "Do you think your wife is yours to beat up whenever you please?"
The fourth uncle said, "You think you’re so impressive, why don’t you just fly to heaven?"
The fifth uncle said, "You’re so capable, why not go be a president instead of acting tough at home with your wife?"
The sixth uncle said, "It’s usually those incapable ones who come home to act tough with their wives after being frustrated elsewhere!"
The seventh uncle said, "You look so scholarly, but who would’ve thought you’d be so savage? Why would anyone stay married to such a person? Better get a divorce now!"
Zane Forrester: "..."
Simon Forrester: "..."
Sienna Thornton: "..."
The Langley brothers, each taking turns, scolded Zane Forrester for two hours.
At first, they were somewhat civilized, but as time went on, the words got harsh.
Zane Forrester had no choice but to repeatedly apologize to Sylvia Langley in the end.
But Sylvia Langley refused to accept it and insisted on a divorce, pointing to Sienna Thornton, who was sitting with Zane Forrester, saying, "Look! I’ve already hired my lawyer! I’m definitely getting divorced this time! What a joke!"
The Langley brothers didn’t stop her, and everyone seemed to be supportive of the decision.
The eldest uncle said to Sylvia Langley, "Our initial plan was that if you wanted to stay with him, we would beat him up to vent your anger. Now that you’ve decided to divorce, we won’t lay a hand on him, since it won’t be our responsibility to teach him anymore. Whoever he remarries and gets punched by him next won’t be our concern!"
Sylvia Langley was extremely pleased with the outcome, getting up and saying, "Wait here, come with me to the Forrester family’s old house to pack some things. I’m going back home with you tomorrow."
With that, she went to pack her personal belongings in the guest room.
She only stayed for one night, so there wasn’t much; Sienna Thornton had already washed the clothes she changed out of. She packed her qipao into a bag and left with it.
She signaled her brothers to leave.
Simon Forrester and Sienna Thornton escorted them out. Before leaving, Sylvia Langley instructed Sienna Thornton to discuss with her partner on Monday and get back to her immediately, so she could start the divorce process right away.
After speaking, she left with her brothers, smiling.
That decisive and carefree manner was more like a wealthy widow inheriting a massive fortune right after her rich husband died, rather than a woman getting a divorce.
Inside the living room, Zane Forrester’s face was utterly downcast. He didn’t even acknowledge Simon Forrester or Sienna Thornton and left with a grim expression.
The door closed.
Simon Forrester went to tidy up the tea set in the living room, and Sienna Thornton quietly took out the vacuum to clean up. Neither spoke, working silently to restore the house to its original state.
After washing her hands, Sienna Thornton came out to see him alone on the lounge chair by the floor-to-ceiling window, arms behind his head, gazing at the summer night sky, deep in thought.
Sienna Thornton sighed softly and approached him, her gaze lowered to him.
He looked at her, gave a resigned smile, extended his hand, and suddenly pulled her into his embrace, the two of them squeezed together on that small lounge chair.
