Chapter 292: Chapter 288: Your Nose Tastes Sweet

"Otherwise?" Sylvia Langley retorted, "I have only you to rely on here, my son. Where do you expect me to go?"

Arguing with the vigor of someone much younger, and now portraying herself as an old woman.

Sienna Thornton rolled her eyes inwardly, staying silent, and continued watching the mother and son argue ahead.

The traffic was slightly congested, and Simon Forrester was already in a foul mood. Upon hearing that Sylvia Langley planned to stay longer at his place, his irritation grew, but he couldn’t just kick her out. So he said, "I’ll talk to Dad later. If he’s willing to admit he was wrong and apologize to you, would you consider going back?"

"Fine, have him apologize to me, and then I’ll go back—pack my things, and prepare for a divorce!" Sylvia Langley said with some confidence, "That old jerk, I don’t rely on him for anything, why should I put up with him? Once we’re divorced, I could still date young men! Who likes to see that old jerk anyway..."

Sylvia Langley ranted the whole way, from marrying Zane Forrester before she even graduated college, to Zane striking her. She complained the entire journey, not even pausing when Sienna Thornton got out of the car.

Simon Forrester didn’t stop her. Usually hating to hear complaints, he shockingly let Sylvia Langley rant without interruption.

His expression was dark until he dropped Sylvia Langley off at her destination, only brightening once the car drove away.

He went straight to the old house. Inside the inner courtyard, Zane Forrester and Old Master Forrester were playing chess. Seeing him, they quickly invited him to sit down.

Simon Forrester sat next to Old Master Forrester, saying nothing, just quietly watching Zane Forrester. Noticing that Zane said nothing, Simon burst out, "Dad, you need to apologize to Mom!"

Zane Forrester remained silent.

Simon Forrester continued, "I’ll make sure Mom apologizes to Grandpa if she’s disrespected him. But! You hit her, and you must apologize to her!"

Initially silent, Zane finally replied, "That slap, I did it on Grandpa’s behalf."

Old Master Forrester, hearing Zane shift the blame to him, as if he had instructed his son to hit his wife, hurriedly interjected, "Hey, Elliot, go apologize to Sylvia. I’ve never taught you to hit anyone."

Seeing Zane unmoved, Old Master Forrester sighed and said, "No matter what, consider how Jules will feel. If I hit your mom, wouldn’t you be upset with me too?"

Because of this poignant perspective shift, Zane finally looked at Simon, coldly asking, "Jules, when you’re a husband, what would your feelings be if your wife disrespected me?"

What feelings?

Simon Forrester, of course, had no feelings!

Because Sienna Thornton would never act like Sylvia Langley!

Zane’s words were just dodging responsibility. First, he said he slapped in Old Master Forrester’s stead, then tried to make Simon understand the difficulty of being a husband and son.

All to avoid facing his error of losing control and striking his wife.

Understanding that further words were useless, Simon simply said, "Mom is serious about divorcing you, and I support her decision and understand it."

Neither Zane nor Old Master Forrester immediately reacted, likely thinking that a woman couldn’t seriously decide to divorce over a single slap.

It wasn’t until Simon stood to leave that Zane hastily stopped him, "Jules, is your mom staying at your place? I’ll go and bring her back."

"She went out. If you want to get her, go tonight."

With that, Simon left the old house.

Driving to Melinda Linton’s to find Sienna Thornton, he called Sylvia Langley midway, telling her that Zane would fetch her back to the old house tonight, so she needn’t buy those daily necessities.

But Sylvia Langley mentioned that her brothers from The South would arrive in Brimfield tonight, and Zane could come then.

Simon Forrester knew things were escalating.

-

Jenna Raines graduated from baking school and is now interning at a hotel pastry department recommended by the school. To refine her skills, she bought some baking materials and equipment to practice at home.

Sienna Thornton, bored, came over in the morning and played around decorating a cake. White cream and flour smudged her face, making her look like a little cat.

Near noon, someone knocked on the door. Guessing it might be Simon Forrester, she quickly set down her things and ran to open the door.

"You’re early!"

Simon Forrester stood outside, holding two bags. Seeing her, he paused for a moment, then swiftly kissed the tip of her nose.

With Melinda Linton and Jenna Raines still inside, Sienna, embarrassed, quickly pushed him away, face flushed, "What are you doing?!"

Simon licked the cream off his tongue, grinning mischievously, "Your nose tastes sweet."

"..." Sienna was about to call him out for being indecent, but then she heard Melinda’s voice and quickly pulled him inside, calling back, "Mom, Simon’s here, he’ll be having lunch with us!"

"Oh, Ford is here? Come in and sit!" Melinda, still in her apron with a spatula in hand, rushed out, looking excited that her son-in-law had come over.

The previously fierce Simon at the old house now showed the shyness of a new son-in-law, smiling sheepishly as he changed into slippers and handed a bag of fruit and one of dry goods to Sienna, motioning for her to take them to the kitchen.

Sienna laughed, telling him that it wasn’t his first visit, no need to be so formal, and turned to carry the items inside.

Simon Forrester was more considerate. She had come back empty-handed today, yet Simon brought large bags every time he visited.

.

Sienna washed the fruit and brought it out. Simon was sitting in the living room watching TV.

She sat next to him, quietly asking, "How did it go?"

Thinking of Sylvia Langley calling her brothers over, Simon also felt a headache coming on, "My uncles might come over tonight. Do you want to come back with me, or should I pick you up after it’s resolved?"

Before Sienna could reply, he continued, "No, no, I don’t know what time they’ll finish talking, better you come with me." 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝒆𝔀𝒆𝙗𝓷𝒐𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝓶

Sienna laughed, "Your mom called her brothers? Looks like she’s planning to teach your dad a lesson."

Simon shook his head in exasperation.

Sylvia Langley, the third in her family, had two older brothers and two younger ones. Hailing from a seaside town in The South, the Langley brothers and she had grown up on seafood, strong and sturdy, and were fierce in arguments.

Simon felt that Zane was in for a rough night.

Yet he didn’t feel sorry for Zane, remembering how Zane only agreed to pick Sylvia up upon hearing about the impending divorce and potential asset division.

Even as Zane’s son, Simon found his actions unmanly.
