Our Love Story: Hard to Guard Against the Sudden Love Strike-Chapter 235 - 232: Coward
Sienna Thornton sat on the bed talking on the phone, and during the conversation, she glanced at Simon Forrester standing at the bathroom door. That glance was quite indifferent, without any meaningful implication, but Simon felt guilty inside, fearing Sienna’s inquiry, he pretended to be calm, changed into his pajamas, and got under the covers.
Just as he closed his eyes pretending to sleep, he heard her say on the phone, "I’m just worried about going on the show without making any waves." Simon immediately sat up, eyes wide, looking at her, and as soon as she hung up the phone, he directly asked, "What show are you going on?"
Sienna turned around to charge her phone and casually mentioned her intention to appear on "Lawyers Talk". Before she could finish, Simon firmly said, "No way! Going on the show is too high-profile! My grandfather won’t be happy!"
Sienna gave him a sidelong glance: "Is it you who’s unhappy or your grandfather?"
"...Both not happy."
"Alright then."
Hearing her say this, Simon thought she actually obeyed and wouldn’t go on the show. His macho pride was easily satisfied, instantly forgetting his name, and he boldly declared, "So remember, it’s best not to appear in public too much, don’t even think about appearing on TV!"
"Mm-hmm." Sienna chuckled, laid down under the covers, closed her eyes, seemingly without objection.
Simon felt at ease, ready to sleep, searching for the light remote, when suddenly, he heard a faint voice from behind: "If the Forrester Family is so easily displeased, then maybe let someone else join the family."
Finally, she added, "I don’t necessarily have to enter your family."
Her tone sounded quite displeased, causing Simon’s heart to skip a beat. He turned off the lights, crawled over to her, hugging her to please her, "Then I’ll join your family."
Sienna didn’t respond to him, keeping her eyes closed: "Join our family? Then you have to listen to me."
"Alright." Simon hesitated for a while and then asked, "Can you go on the show with a mask? Aren’t there shows now where people go on wearing masks?"
"How about wearing pantyhose?"
"..."
Simon was at a loss, hugging Sienna, thinking about how to stop her from going on the show. In the darkness, he heard her ask, "How’s the search going?"
"Hm?" Simon feigned calmness, "No news yet, I’ll ask again tomorrow."
"Brimfield’s so big, can’t filter out a few ’Tang’ or ’Tang’ surname uncles born around 1965?"
"...Well, actually," Simon’s tone began to falter, "a few were filtered out, but they’re all oddballs, I eliminated them, none seem like your dad."
Sienna didn’t speak for a while.
The atmosphere was quiet, filled only by each other’s breath.
Suddenly she asked sullenly, "What do you think my dad should be like?!"
Simon had not thought much about it. Just as he was about to blurt out something, he realized it was a trap, his mind raced, and he confidently said, "I’ve never seen him, how would I know what he looks like?"
He exhaled with a guilty conscience, feeling relieved that he almost caused trouble, almost got pulled into a courtroom.
Sienna didn’t probe further, instead saying, "Considering this, I think I should try finding in my own way." She pulled up the covers, "Let’s sleep early, have work tomorrow!"
In the bed, Simon hugged her, behaving himself, not daring to mention her not going on the show again, just softly asked, "What time are you going to sign the contract tomorrow? Shall I come along?"
"No need, it’s pointless for you to show up now..."
-
The next day, Sienna spent the morning discussing with Rhonda Wagner and Aurora Buckley. Considering that Cognitas had not yet received a single case, and the Forrester Group was the first deal they talked about since the law firm’s launch, from a business perspective, they hoped the first deal would work out, heralding a good start with prosperous future business.
They decided to add another requirement to Nolan Kramer’s requests.
The three of them went to Forrester Group in the afternoon to sign the contract, with Nolan Kramer still being their contact.
Before signing, Sienna proposed that if she needed to spend half of her workdays in Forrester Group, she must be given the position of Deputy Legal Director, otherwise it would be difficult for her to work effectively.
Upon hearing this, Nolan’s expression changed slightly. He said he couldn’t make that decision himself and needed to consult higher-ups, so he took his phone to the adjacent conference room to make a call.
Sienna thought, he must be consulting Zane Forrester, but making a call to the United States at 2 AM, isn’t he afraid of being scolded?
Could it be that the call wasn’t made to Arcadia with a 12-hour difference, but rather to Franland with a 6-hour difference?
Mrs. Forrester indeed took part in the matter, but her direct command over Nolan, directly involved in Forrester’s operations, still left Sienna quite shocked.
After making the call, Nolan came back and said the higher-ups agreed to her request and then instructed his assistant to take the contract out for reprocessing.
Soon, the contract was signed and would take effect the next day.
Nolan said to Sienna, "I’ll have someone draft the appointment letter immediately and send it out before the end of the day. Starting tomorrow, Mr. Thornton will be responsible for Forrester Group’s legal department. Your direct superior will still be Zane Forrester, but since Mr. Forrester is often in the United States, his tasks at Forrester are generally handled by me, you know that right?" 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ𝓋𝑒𝑙.𝑐𝘰𝑚
Sienna didn’t respond, her sharp gaze seemingly wished to pierce through Nolan.
She had always been aware of The Forresters’ organizational structure. After Bianca Fordham was ousted, Zane Forrester took over all the departments originally under her management. Now, apart from production, technology, and strategy handles by Mr. Chase, everything else was under Zane’s management. But since Zane was always in the United States, ultimately, Nolan was the one in charge of Forrester Group.
No wonder yesterday’s odd agreement was quickly stamped, Nolan got the assistant to bring the finance team’s stamp in minutes, as one stamp, it was stamped freely, presumably under Nolan’s discretion.
It seems they managed to get rid of one Bianca, but now they are grooming a "Bianca Jenner" instead?
Sienna habitually dissected the situation.
Initially, she thought Zane Forrester was unwilling to let Cognitas fully handle Forrester’s legal work because bundling the department seemed too costly, hence proposing to retain the original legal team of Forrester, with salaries still paid by Forrester while deducting it from the fees to Cognitas; and mandating her to arrange at least half a month on Forrester’s premises as they felt since they paid Cognitas handsomely, they naturally wanted to utilize all resources beneficial to Forrester, that is Sienna.
Now thinking back, this was not the case.
Keeping Forrester’s original legal team, even holding salary and personnel change rights, was more about control!
Which means, the current force still seeks to control Forrester’s legal department.
