Chapter 84: Chapter 84: Real or Fake

Just as Pei Yan was drifting into a dreamy trance, another person was also pulled out of bed by the suddenly ringing phone. Ye Jiumu, who had returned home with his brother for the Chinese New Year and had just laid down not long after eating the reunion dinner, received an urgent call from the bureau asking him to return immediately for an emergency task.

From the anxious yet cryptic tone of Jiang Feiyang on the other end of the line, Ye Jiumu knew something significant was happening. In a panic, he got up, dressed, and rushed out.

Standing behind his brother in the entrance hall, Ye Ruozai held a coat and asked concernedly, "Be safe! Do you need me to go with you?"

"No need, the call was just for me, it’s very urgent, probably an emergency surveillance task. Brother, home...," Ye Jiumu said, taking the coat from his brother and putting it on while speaking.

Ye Ruozai adjusted his brother’s hat, patted his shoulder and instructed, "All right, don’t worry about home, I’ll explain for you later. After that, let’s catch our breath, just go quickly and remember to stay safe."

"Alright!"

After responding, Ye Jiumu hurriedly took the elevator downstairs, already having acquired the car keys from his brother, only to find two military vehicles waiting for him downstairs.

It seems something big has indeed happened. Such a personal pick-up for a task was something he had never encountered since joining. With a nervous heart, he boarded the military vehicle and was quickly delivered to the secret Teleportation Array site in the city.

Ten minutes later, Ye Jiumu walked out of the teleportation chamber of the Investigation Bureau, utterly shocked by the sight before him. He squinted for a while before confirming that the figure floating in the sky, enveloped by multiple internal sources emitting blue light, was indeed Pei Yan.

Meanwhile, inside the Investigation Bureau, besides the newly arrived Zuo Huaxian, there were five more individuals: two soldiers in military attire, Engineer Li and his assistant, and what appeared to be a boy of eleven or twelve?

Before Ye Jiumu could figure out what was going on, Gu Shenghui grabbed him and pulled him aside with a stern command: "Remember, shortly you must relax your spirit and self-consciousness to accept the guidance of our internal sources. Whatever scene you see, do not be surprised, stay calm, and record as much as possible everything you witness. Do you understand?"

"Under-understand!" Ye Jiumu replied, bewildered!

Seeing Ye Jiumu’s seemingly confused expression, Gu Shenghui shook him forcefully and shouted angrily, "I’ll ask you again, do you understand? Repeat it!"

"Understand! Relax consciousness, accept guidance, do not be surprised, stay calm, record everything possible!" Ye Jiumu replied loudly.

Gu Shenghui turned to look at Elder Lin and nodded slightly at the twelve-year-old boy, then he pulled Ye Jiumu into the crowd and said, "Elder Ye, Elder Zuo, Director Mei, start now!"

At his prompt, the boy stepped forward to the center of the group, raised his hands, and released his semi-transparent internal source, together with Elder Lin, enveloping everyone present. Subsequently, Zuo Huaxian took a deep breath and slowly exhaled the colorful internal source again towards Pei Yan floating in the sky.

At the instant Elder Zuo expelled the colorful source, Ye Jiumu suddenly felt as if his consciousness was drawn out of his body, drifting along with the colorful source while staring back at his body standing blankly on the spot. Though terrified, he remembered Director Gu’s earlier instructions, hastily adjusted his emotions, and suppressed his fear to stay calm and face the upcoming changes.

At the moment the colorful mist touched Pei Yan’s body, Ye Jiumu’s vision went black and he lost consciousness. When he regained sight, he found himself no longer in the Investigation Bureau but seemingly wandering alone in a snowy winter forest, the snowflakes blown by fierce winds from the treetops occasionally fell upon "himself."

To be precise, this was not his body! He was merely residing within the body, and even the perspective of viewing the outside world was beyond his control.

"Xiaoye, remember to record every scene you see after arriving here." Gu Shenghui’s voice suddenly appeared in Ye Jiumu’s consciousness.

"Understood!" Ye Jiumu responded similarly with his consciousness, though unsure if the other party could hear him.

Pei Yan had no idea that so many people had "possessed" him at this moment. Now, he was increasingly worried about his situation; it seemed like a dream that he could never wake up from. Just as he stood before a culture dish staring into the eyes of a naked girl, pondering what she had said.

A vague light and shadow flashed by, and in an instant, he found himself in a snow-laden place. After the initial discomfort faded, Pei Yan soon grew interested in this snowy scene that resembled his hometown’s winter landscape, and began to wander aimlessly in the forest.

After walking for more than ten minutes, just as Pei Yan started feeling boredom, a reflection from body of water between the trees caught his attention.

Upon discovering the change, Pei Yan excitedly ran towards it, slowing his steps as the scene before him became clear, standing behind a tree by the lake, observing stealthily.

At the edge of the forest, there was a pool of lake water, whose clear surface mirrored the moonlight like a mirror. However, what halted Pei Yan’s steps was not this poetic scene, but the presence of a person kneeling on the tranquil lake surface.

This person had bare upper body and wore Japanese martial arts pants, with a samurai blade placed in front of him.

"A Japanese person? Why is it a Japanese person? Floating on water! Am I freaking transmigrated??" Pei Yan pondered distractedly with his head lowered.

His intense curiosity urged Pei Yan to cautiously walk out of the forest and approach the lake. The man in the lake appeared to have no awareness of his presence, remaining in meditation.

"Xiaoye, have you recorded everything?" Elder Lin’s voice came through.

Ye Jiumu hurriedly replied, "Elder Lin, no problem, recorded everything."

Suddenly, the lake man opened his eyes, two sharp beams burst from them, eyes moved, body shifted, left hand grasped the blade’s body, right hand on the handle, both knees kneeling, switching to one knee kneeling with torso leaning forward and the blade unsheathed.

As the man performed the series of movements, the previously calm lake erupted instantly, columns of water surged from the surface, coalescing with the blade’s momentum. At the moment of the man drawing the blade, these water columns formed a water dragon transformed into blade momentum, soaring up.

The lake surface before the man was split in half momentarily, the dragon-impelled blade momentum sliced a deep trench in the snowfield in front of the lake, eventually colliding with the trees by the lakeside.

At this moment, lines of sturdy trees seemed as fragile as paper, being cut, shattered, with splintered wood and debris swirling in the moonlit night. Amidst the sound of continuous tree collapse, the blade momentum ultimately dissipated in the depths of the forest.

Having witnessed everything, Pei Yan was deeply shaken by the events before him, subconsciously rubbing his forehead, pondering: "What kind of people am I dreaming of? Each more bizarre than the last."

Then, a loud round of applause suddenly sounded behind Pei Yan, startling him, not having noticed anyone approaching. He instinctively turned to look back.

He saw a teenager vigorously clapping while striding towards the lakeside, followed closely by a thinly clad middle-aged man in wooden clogs, sloppily making his way over.
