Oops Alpha, Wrong Luna-Chapter 17
Chapter 17: Chapter 17
Aria’s POV.
I woke to the soft morning light spilling through the curtains, but it wasn’t the sun that hit me first.
It was Kyra, my inner wolf, growling low and fierce, a sound that vibrated in my chest. My head throbbed, a dull ache pulsing behind my eyes, and I pressed my fingers to my temples, trying to ease it.
"Kyra, what’s wrong?" I asked, my voice shaky in my mind. "Why are you so stirred up?"
Her growl grew louder, urgent, like a warning bell. "Something’s wrong, Aria," she said, her voice sharp. "The Fang Pack isn’t safe. I feel it—danger, close and dark. We need to leave. Now."
I shook my head, my heart racing. "No, Kyra," I said, my voice firm despite the ache.
"We came here for a reason. The recognition, Kael’s deal with Alpha Nicholas—we can’t just run." My stomach twisted, her words sinking in, but I pushed them down.
Leaving now would ruin everything, my plan to make Kael love me, to secure my place as his Luna, even as Aria, not Celeste. I couldn’t let fear win, not when I was so close.
Kyra pressed harder, her presence heavy, clawing at my control. "Aria, listen to me!" she snapped, her growl almost a snarl.
"Danger’s coming. It’s in the air, in the pack. We’re not safe!" Her urgency sent a chill down my spine, my skin prickling.
I gripped the sheets, my knuckles white, fighting to keep her back. She wanted to take over, to force me to act, but I held her down, my will stronger—for now.
My head pounded harder, the ache spreading, and I squeezed my eyes shut, willing her to be quiet.
The door creaked open, and my eyes snapped wide, my heart lurching. Alpha Kael stood there, his tall frame filling the doorway, his black shirt and pants making him look like a shadow come to life.
His onyx eyes locked on me, sharp and searching, and I scrambled out of bed, my bare feet hitting the cold floor.
I stood, my legs shaky, and bowed low, my silver gown from last night crumpled around me.
"Alpha Kael," I said, my voice small, hoping he didn’t see the panic in my eyes.
He nodded, his gaze softening just a bit, but he didn’t miss anything. "You look shaken, Luna," he said, his voice low, steady.
"What’s wrong?" The word "Luna" hit me hard, a reminder of the lie I was living, pretending to be Celeste. My heart pounded, Kyra still growling, urging me to spill everything.
I swallowed, my throat tight. "I’m fine," I lied, my voice barely steady. Kyra growled again, louder, pushing at me.
"Tell him!" she demanded.
"Tell him we’re in danger! Let the truth out!" I shoved her back, my head pounding, my hands trembling.
I couldn’t tell him, not yet. What if he thought I was weak? What if he didn’t believe me? I needed him to trust me, to love me, before I could risk everything.
Kael stepped closer, his boots heavy on the floor, and my breath caught. He cupped my cheeks, his hands warm, rough, grounding me.
His eyes held mine, fierce but gentle, and my heart raced, Kyra quieting for a moment.
"Luna," he said again, his voice lower, almost a whisper. "Are you sure you’re okay? Tell me what’s going on."
The words were heavy on my tongue, ready to spill. I wanted to tell him—about Kyra’s warning, the danger she sensed, the fear choking me.
But before I could speak, his phone buzzed, loud and sharp, breaking the moment. I flinched, my hands dropping to my sides.
Kael frowned, glancing at the phone in his pocket, but he didn’t move, his hands still on my face.
"Ignore it," he said, his voice firm, his eyes never leaving mine.
I shook my head, my voice shaky. "Answer it," I said, forcing a smile. "It might be important." He hesitated, his jaw tight, but I nodded again, pushing him. "Please."
He sighed, pulling the phone out, his eyes still on me. "What, Brian?" he said, his voice sharp. He listened, his face changing—his eyes narrowing, his mouth tightening.
"Fine," he said, hanging up. He looked at me, his expression serious.
"Someone needs to see me. Stay here, Aria. I’ll be back soon." He gave me a small smile, warm but quick, and left, the door clicking shut behind him.
I sank onto the bed, my legs weak, my heart pounding. Kyra growled, her voice sharp in my mind. "You stubborn thing!" she snapped.
"Why didn’t you tell him? We’re in danger, Aria! You’re going to get us killed!" I pressed my hands to my face, my head throbbing.
"I’m scared, okay?" I said, my voice breaking. "I don’t know what’s happening. I’m trying, Kyra." My chest ached, fear and guilt mixing, making it hard to breathe.
I wanted to trust Kael, to tell him everything, but the lie I was living; pretending to be Celeste; held me back. What if he turned away from me?
The door creaked open again, and my head snapped up, my heart lurching. I expected Kael, or maybe Brian, but instead, a woman stood there, her blonde hair glinting in the light, her green eyes sharp with a smug grin.
Seraphina, Kael’s foster sister. My stomach dropped, shock hitting me like a cold wave. I’d heard of her, the girl raised with Kael, but seeing her here, in the Fang Pack, felt wrong, like a trap.
"What are you doing here?" I asked, my voice sharp, standing up.
My hands clenched, Kyra growling low, sensing trouble.
Seraphina’s grin widened, her eyes glinting with something dark, something mean.
She stepped closer, her boots clicking on the floor, her small bag swinging at her side. "Why?" she said, her voice sweet but sharp, like a blade hidden in honey.
"Don’t you think it’s nice to see my own brother? Or are you planning to take him away from me?" She leaned in, her face close, her grin turning sinister.
My heart raced, my breath catching. She knew something, or she was fishing, but either way, her words cut deep.
I stepped back, my legs hitting the bed, my voice shaking. "I’m not trying to take anyone," I said, forcing the words out.
"Kael’s my mate. I’m his Luna." The words felt heavy, like a shield, but her grin didn’t fade.
She stepped even closer, her eyes locked on mine, her voice dropping to a whisper.
"Listen up, Luna," she said, her tone cold, mocking. "Kael is mine."
