Only I Cultivate-Chapter 23: Time For A Walk
Chapter 23: Time For A Walk
"Good morning, Mr. Feng. How are you feeling today?" A nurse stood in Feng Fan's room, checking on his condition.
Feng Fan, who had just had his blood drawn, scratched his arm and yawned.
"I'm fine, just a little restless. Can I take a walk somewhere?"
After a good night's sleep, Feng Fan felt refreshed. But staying stuck in a hospital bed for more than a day wasn't exactly the vacation he had in mind.
The nurse nodded. "I'll check your blood results. Wait a moment. If everything's fine, you can go to the garden in the center of the hospital. You can get some fresh air with the normal patients."
The hospital where Feng Fan was staying was one of only three in Green Vine City authorized to treat injuries caused by ghostly spiritual energy.
However, these hospitals didn't just handle ghost-related cases, they also treated regular illnesses. The "normal" patients the nurse mentioned were those with illnesses not caused by ghosts.
After all, the unit where Feng Fan was staying couldn't be accessed by people who didn't know about the existence of ghosts. The patients were kept separate for this reason.
Feng Fan nodded, agreeing to wait for the results.
But was Feng Fan a man of his word? Was he the type to follow orders without question?
Definitely not.
As soon as the nurse left, Feng Fan got out of bed and stretched. "Time for a walk!"
He smiled and walked out of his hospital room, still wearing his light blue hospital gown.

"I hope lunch is better. Breakfast was really disappointing," he muttered, remembering the bland meal he'd eaten earlier—just a boiled egg, milk, and bread.
"Well, poor people can't complain much, but how could it be worse than my school's breakfast?"
Feng Fan shook his head and kept walking until he reached the exit of his unit. He opened the door and was greeted by two guards standing outside.
Feng Fan put his hands behind his back and nodded at them. "Good job, everyone. Keep up the hard work, and I'll put in a good word for you both with Director Mao."
The guards straightened up, looking proud and motivated. "Thank you, sir!"
Feng Fan continued walking with his chin up, hands still behind his back. As for actually putting in a good word for them? Would Director Mao even listen to him?
He wandered through the hospital corridors but soon realized he was lost.
'I should ask someone for directions,' he thought, spotting two nurses chatting not far away.
"Did you hear about Mrs. Qin last night?" the taller nurse asked.
The shorter nurse shook her head. "No, what happened? I heard her heart surgery was a success. Doctor Wen was even bragging about it right after the operation."
The taller nurse leaned in closer, lowering her voice as if afraid someone might overhear. She'd been scolded by her supervisor for gossiping before and didn't want it to happen again.
Though, of course, she was still gossiping.
"Well, all the results showed the surgery was a success, but an hour later after she returned to her room, her heart stopped. They're running tests to figure out what happened, but so far, there's no explanation. Doctor Wen is really upset. He even said he might be a failure as a doctor for not noticing the patient's condition."
The shorter nurse gasped. "Oh my god, the proud Doctor Wen said that? I never thought I'd hear him say something like that. He's always bragging about how prestigious his university was."
Feng Fan found the rest of the conversation boring and decided to leave. While the nurses seemed shocked by the elderly woman's unexpected death, Feng Fan wasn't particularly moved.
After all, this was a hospital. Didn't people die here all the time?
Feng Fan spotted another nurse walking quickly in the same direction he came from. He tried to stop her as she approached.
"Excuse me, where's the garden?"
The nurse, clearly in a hurry, didn't stop to talk. "Sorry, I'm busy—a patient's heart just stopped!"
Her words made Feng Fan frown. Not because he thought the nurse was rude, but because of what she said.
'A patient's heart suddenly stopped? That's the second time today.'
Feng Fan's expression turned thoughtful. 'Could it be... a ghost?'
But he quickly shook his head. 'Nah, people die in hospitals all the time. Besides, I'm on vacation. A worker should never work during their vacation!'
Feng Fan kept walking and eventually found the garden. It was beautiful and well-organized. Four paths led to a water fountain at the center, each lined with blue and red flowers and a few stone benches.
Feng Fan took a deep breath, enjoying the scent.
"Ah, nothing like the smell of flowers mixing with the obviously polluted air to make me happy."
Carbon emissions in big cities were no joke.
Feng Fan walked over to a stone bench, large enough to seat four people side by side, and casually listened to the gossiping patients nearby. This time, it was two men talking.
"Cai Hu, did you hear what happened this morning? I swear, the staff here is completely incompetent. I'm seriously thinking about asking my family to switch hospitals..."
"Huh? Ren Kang, Mountain Flower Hospital is one of the top three in the entire city. What are you blabbering about?"
Ren Kang shook his head. "Then explain this to me, how does someone with a simple sunburn end up dead? And not because of the sunburn, but because a nurse injected him with lidocaine even though he was allergic to it?"
Cai Hu's eyes widened in shock. "What? Are you sure? Maybe... they didn't have that information in his medical records?"
"That's the thing... I was in the room beside his, and heard them saying they had this information! His medical record clearly stated he was allergic to lidocaine, but the nurse still gave him a high dose, and that's what killed him. The staff here is reckless. You should think about switching hospitals too!"
