Only God-Chapter 541 - 466: The Gods Discover the Path of Divine Creation
Chapter 541: Chapter 466: The Gods Discover the Path of Divine Creation
As the news brought by the Dream God Laren spread throughout the Celestial Kingdom, the previously silent gods were suddenly boiling with activity.
The father who brought Heaven and Law to existence intended to grant an unprecedented power to the people of the world.
This message threw all the gods into panic.
Because of this, the gods once again gathered in the Country of Divines’ Golden Hall, where today, the seats were nearly all filled, a rare sight since the death of Shan’en.
"What exactly does our father want to do, giving humans this power for no apparent reason?!"
One divine being questioned aloud.
"No, this must not happen, those mortals are so arrogant, countless among them hold wisdom but fail to learn humility. Now, even while weak, mortals still dare to offend the divine. If they were to grasp such power... no one knows what would happen!"
Another divine being echoed, seemingly having a deep understanding of human arrogance.
"But most humans are devout and humble towards the gods, what if it’s just a small token of grace..."
One divine being suggested hesitantly.
"A small token? What are you thinking? What our father is going to grant is surely no small thing, and even if it were just a small thing, it would still be far beyond our capacity to bear."
Before that divine being could finish, another disagreed,
"I think, even if most humans are humble, this does not mean we should grant them that power. It’s precisely because they lack power that they are submissive, just as infants obey their parents. If they come to hold power, even a small amount, they are very likely to rebel against us."
The Golden Hall was noisy, the divinities’ voices overlapping and clamorous, and despite some divinities calling for calm several times, saying that continuing to argue would not yield a good outcome, no one had the authority to silence the gods.
Those divine beings’ gazes inevitably drifted towards the empty Golden Throne, and couldn’t help but think: If only Shan’en were still here.
The gods’ panic was predictable.
For all rational beings in the world, the unknown is often the greatest fear.
And the power that Chen Yi intended to grant was, to the gods, an unknown entity.
In the Celestial Kingdom, stars were as numerous as grains of sand, and the gods couldn’t even count their number, let alone the weight of fate. The Celestial Kingdom was so vast and boundless that the gods couldn’t see its end, how then could they discern the direction of the future?
They did not know what awaited them in that new era.
They could only vaguely sense that once mortals dabbled in that power, there might no longer be an insurmountable chasm between deities and humans.
The divide between gods and mortals would no longer be as clear-cut and worlds apart as before but would become blurred and increasingly close as time went by.
Inside the Golden Hall, the gods were arguing fiercely, with various voices rising and falling, yet no matter which voice, they all represented the same idea...
We must not let those mortals possess such power!
"Mortals do not deserve such power, they are nothing but earthbound beings."
"Right, mortals must not hold that power, for once they do, their arrogance will not just harm us but will also destroy themselves."
The gods expressed their vehement views, each flushed and heated in their beliefs, convinced that mortals neither had the capacity nor were worthy of wielding such power.
The deaths of the Six Gods had ignited fear, and the emergence of the Path of Divine creation had flared up into a raging inferno.
Just then, one divine being asked:
"But what can we do, can we make our father take back that decree? How would he listen to us?"
This statement came out like a bucket of cold water poured into the Golden Hall, instantly lowering the volume, as the gods knew this was the crux of the issue.
No matter how much they feared or contemplated, their father, the god of all gods, did not care.
If that father had cared, he would not have allowed Heaven to descend, Law to emerge, nor would he have allowed the old order of gods to be destroyed overnight, submerged into oblivion.
The entire Golden Hall seemed to plunge into an atmosphere of despair, a tremendous pressure bearing down on the hearts of the divines, leaving them gasping for air. ƒree𝑤ebnσvel-com
At that moment, the Dream God Laren spoke up:
"Who was the first to discover that power?
Our father, although he created that power, did not make it public, in stark contrast to the past spectacle of Heaven’s arrival.
Does this mean that power was intentionally hidden by our father in the shadows, waiting for someone to notice?"
"If no one can perceive it, then such power would never emerge upon the earth."
The words of the Dream God roused the gradually despairing Gods, and they all realized the key to solving the problem.
The Gods could not make their Father change his mind and reverse his will; this point could not be clearer to them.
However, the words of the Dream God reminded them of one fact—they did not need to make their Father reconsider.
They needed only to seal away this power, to ensure that all mortals would remain unaware of its existence.
To that end, the best method would be to ensure that the mortals who discovered the power would never speak of it again.
And now, the pressing matter was to find out who had first discovered this power.
................
The actions of the Gods were swift.
The Gods desired to prevent all of this from happening; they wanted to seal this power away, condemning it as a taboo that neither divine nor mortal should ever touch, keeping it a secret forever.
Especially the Dream God Laren, whose child’s death caused him to feel a more direct impact than the other Gods, made him realize the terrible consequences that would ensue should mortals gain complete mastery of this power.
"We will all lose our offspring at this rate,"
Laren declared before the other Gods.
And through the memories of Shangla’er, Laren learned that all of Kagu’s kin had died out, and his closest person was his teacher, Belvan.
Naturally, Laren’s gaze fell upon that Dwarf scholar.
Unknown until observed, after watching for a period of time, the Dream God Laren was horrified to find that the scholar had begun systematic study of that power.
Eventually, Laren also discovered that this power was called the Divine Genesis Path.
He hid beneath the cover of night, perused all the materials organized by Belvan, and then entered his dreams, seeking more clues about the Divine Genesis Path.
And the more Laren delved into understanding, the more he realized the fearsomeness of that power.
"Oh, my Father...what have you created..."
Laren realized that the Divine Genesis Path was not simply about allowing mortals to rival demigods; at the path’s end stood the place where the Gods themselves stood.
Although Belvan’s current research was too inconsequential to threaten the standing of the Gods, there was not just one Belvan among mortals, and given enough of them and the continuous work of thousands of "Belvans" day and night, mortals would step by step approach the end of the Path.
Laren had considered killing Belvan several times, nipping everything in the bud.
But reason told him that now was not the time to act hastily.
Because Laren had discovered the Nameless Book, and Belvan’s research was, to a great extent, based upon that Nameless Book.
To avoid startling the quarry, Laren did not kill Belvan but instead used a small measure of Divine Power to surround Belvan with nightmares for the next period, as a warning.
Afterwards, Laren copied every single character from the Nameless Book exactly as they were and brought them to the panicked Gods.
When Laren returned to the Celestial Kingdom, he was astonished to hear similar news.
A Divine had, through a set of fortunate circumstances, come upon a Nameless Book, and after reading it, also learned that this power was called the Divine Genesis Path.
With Laren’s return, the evidence corroborated, and the Gods completely confirmed the existence of the Divine Genesis Path.
They followed the text in the Nameless Book and learned that there were forty such books in the world, all from the hands of the same person, who, according to the description within the books, had traveled to the depths of the soul, reaching into the collective unconscious, and there seen the Ancient Word Temple created by the Lord.
Without a doubt, this was the first person to discover the Divine Genesis Path, the one who brought panic to the Celestial Kingdom.
"Who is that?"
The Gods couldn’t help but ask.
They realized together that if they could just keep this person silent, without spreading the word, and could collect and burn the forty Nameless Books, then the earth-bound mortals could search for tens of generations and never discern the existence of the Divine Genesis Path.
The only question was, who could this person be? And where could they find him?
The Gods wanted to seek a prophecy from the Prophetic God Kagawus, but he refused them; he had once prophesied the coming of Heaven, a prophecy that left him gravely injured, with nearly a thousand years needed to recover.
Just as the Gods were lost and troubled, several remembered that the Great Angel Schiller had ventured into the depths of the Celestial Kingdom during this time and had created the Sea of Souls at its farthest reaches.
"It must be Schiller, the Father’s Angel; besides him, no one else could have found the Divine Genesis Path!"
