Chapter 516: Chapter 444: He is Bound to Commit a Great Sin (Two-in-One Additional Chapter)
Above the Sea of Souls, the busy fairies were building their own homeland, storing good thoughts collected from the souls of mortals in warehouses and navigating the streets and alleys aboard rose snakes.
Fairy Queen Sofia slowly emerged from her palace, with dozens of fairies following in obedience by her side.
When the fairies saw Sofia, they couldn’t help but instinctively bow and kneel, as if such reverence had been engraved in their souls since the creation of their race.
That was the first fairy in the world, created by Angel Schiller or rather Prophet Schiller, and the other fairies revered this progenitor of all fairies, much like they revered the divine.
"Step back, let me meet the Prophet alone."
Sofia waved her hand, signaling the fairies beside her to step back and stop following her. Then, she carelessly adjusted her clothes and fluttered her transparent wings, taking flight into the midair.
Before long, she had reached the highest point of the Sea of Souls and saw Schiller waiting in front of the mirror.
The mirror in front of Schiller could peer across vast distances to see every move of Baird and others in the Netherworld. For days, the Great Angel had been standing guard here, without taking a single step away.
Sofia slowly approached Schiller and then, familiar with the routine, flew onto his shoulder.
"Oh, it’s you, Sofia,"
Schiller said casually.
"Yes, no one else would come here but me,"
Sofia said.
By now, the relationship between Sofia and Schiller was not quite that of creator and creation. As time passed, the Fairy Queen’s reverence for Schiller faded gradually. They seemed more like master and servant with a touch of friendship.
"Where are they now?"
Sofia pointed to the scene in the mirror and asked.
"Nowhere specific. They’ve just completed the fifth trial,"
Schiller replied, not withholding any information.
"It seems things are going well for them,"
Sofia continued:
"But I wonder, if Baird really completes those nine trials, will the Netherworld Judges actually let him leave?"
Schiller tilted his head and hissed:
"What do you think?"
Sofia didn’t take the bait and analyzed calmly:
"The Judges of the Netherworld made a bet with you, not Baird.
The terms were that Baird would commit a major sin, and apart from being exiled from the Netherworld, there would be no other punishment.
Could the ninth trial be that great sin? Impossible. The Judges of the Netherworld are not in league with you, they would not allow Baird to commit a major sin in the Netherworld."
At this point, the Fairy Queen paused.
She turned her face and gazed at Schiller,
"So, will they let him go?
Assuming he completes all nine trials without committing a great sin..."
Schiller slowly said:
"That won’t happen.
He is certain to commit a great sin."
A look of confusion spread across Sofia’s face. She didn’t understand where her creator’s certainty came from.
Schiller, however, did not continue to explain. He said:
"If your hypothesis were valid, then the responsibility for everything would fall on me, whether Baird stays in the Netherworld or the Judges’ breach of trust, or even the bet failing. I would have to bear it all.
But I don’t make transactions that are losses.
So, be patient, Sofia."
His words fell upon her ears.
"Then... what kind of grave sin would warrant Baird’s exile from the Netherworld?"
Not getting a response to one question, Sofia asked another.
Annoyed, Schiller glared at Sofia and snorted, repeating:
"Be patient!"
Seeing this, Sofia scoffed dismissively and asked no more. That self-proclaimed Prophet, the Great Angel, knew much more than she did at present, and with him, there were many, many things that were beyond the current her to fathom.
Even though she thought she could understand.
Through the smooth mirror, the actions of the heroes were all laid bare before Sofia and Schiller.
They watched the group of heroes forge ahead in the Netherworld, completing one trial after another.
In a short period, the heroes had completed five trials.
These included many tests—testing their valor as well as their courage and wisdom.
The heroes had defeated the menacing seven-headed serpent and rushed to find the spiritual deer left behind by the Forest God Libog, catching the souls attempting to cross the Netherworld River and head to the Peaceful Plain. After rounding up the souls, they went searching for a concealed bunch of white flowers on the precipitous cliffs of the Abyss...
After completing the first four trials, the heroes embarked on the fifth trial, which was more difficult than the previous four combined. The Netherworld Judges had the heroes serve as a jury to assist in the sentencing of souls—nine hundred and ninety persons in total. If there were three misjudgments, the trial would fail, but the heroes skillfully decided the crimes of nine hundred and ninety individuals without a single error.
The heroes’ progression was so smooth that the Netherworld Judges were astonished and felt a sense of crisis.
Therefore, a Judge, who was least noticeable and always stern, proposed the sixth trial to the heroes.
This unsmiling Judge was like the most unreasonable stone, robed in black and unpredictable in his movements, the most mysterious of the nine Netherworld Judges. For the years the Netherworld had been established, not a single soul had ever come to know his name.
