Chapter 189: Chapter 189: Buddhist News, Founding Tetrasaint City
Cecilia, standing to the side, looked at Crysic with envy all over her face and clung to her, whining, "Crysic, how did you do it? Teach me, please?"
Johnnie had promised her that as long as she could grasp the State of Sword Mind, she would get a Fossil of Creation to merge with her real-world attributes.
Crysic thought for a moment. Honestly, she didn’t really know how she managed to comprehend the State of Sword Mind. It all just felt so natural, like everything fell into place on its own.
She figured it probably had something to do with Bellina’s Oracle Bell, which boosted her enlightenment.
She said, "Cecilia, I’ll let you borrow the Oracle Bell when the time comes. Maybe next time you try to advance to Sword Immortal, you’ll break through to the State of Sword Mind too."
"Really?" Cecilia’s eyes shone with hope and confidence.
Johnnie remembered that the Iceheart Jade he got for killing Pluto’s clone in the real world could also increase enlightenment by five points.
Plus, the items in the Map of Heaven and Earth space could now travel between reality and the Universe Continent, so he could bring it over and let Cecilia use it. That should help her reach the State of Sword Mind in no time.
"By the way, where’s Bellina? Is she still meditating on the Way of the Sword?" Johnnie didn’t see Bellina around, so he asked in confusion.
Crysic nodded. "She feels like she’s about to comprehend the Sword Spirit Realm, so she wants to break through to Sword Spirit Realm before changing class to Sword Immortal."
"What kind of monster is this woman?" Cecilia grumbled, clearly annoyed.
Johnnie was shocked too. Bellina’s understanding of the Way of the Sword was way beyond what he’d imagined—no wonder she became the number one Sword Immortal in his last life.
He felt a little pressure. As the inheritor of the Sword Immortal legacy, he couldn’t let his own disciples surpass him.
Maybe, during this Sword Immortal advancement, he could break through to the Sword Spirit Realm too.
Just then, Vivian arrived. She quickly organized the craftsmen she’d brought to start building the city, then came to find Johnnie.
"Master, I have something to report." she said, getting right to the point. "Not long ago, a group of bald guys showed up at my city. They said they wanted to spread Buddhism and protect Solaris City."
Johnnie was taken aback, surprised. "Monks? Are they players?"
"No." Vivian shook her head. "I can tell they’re like me, natives of the Universe Continent."
Dylan chimed in from the side, "I’ve heard similar news. Monks have been showing up in a lot of cities, claiming Buddhism is supreme and trying to preach it, but they’ve mostly been kicked out."
It seemed like these Buddhists weren’t very welcome here. I just wasn’t sure if they had anything to do with Buddhism from Earth.
"Johnnie, these guys are from Earth." Azure Dragon’s voice suddenly sounded.
Johnnie’s curiosity was piqued. He summoned Azure Dragon and Black Tortoise straight out of the Map of Heaven and Earth space.
He asked, "Is Buddhism also fighting against the aliens?"
"No." Azure Dragon replied coldly. "Those guys are cowards. They never betrayed us, but when the final battle came, they just hid away. I didn’t expect them to show their faces again now."
Black Tortoise nodded, his expression just as unfriendly. "For Buddhism to appear at a time like this and openly preach like this, they must want a piece of the pie."
"Are they powerful?" Johnnie asked, pressing further.
Azure Dragon’s face grew more serious. "Very powerful. Their forces are still almost completely intact. The Protectors and Venerable are all god-level beings, and the Buddhas themselves are around stage 7 to stage 9. If Buddhism makes a real comeback, it’s going to be a serious headache."
Johnnie thought it over. He actually knew a bit about the Buddhist hierarchy.
Protectors and Venerable weren’t even high-ranking in Buddhism—they served under the Buddhas and Bodhisattva. Yet they were already godlike in power.
If that was the case, then the Arhats, Bodhisattva, and Buddhas above them must be even more fearsome—maybe even stronger than the Lesser Gods.
With Johnnie’s current strength, he was no match for a god.
The only reason he’d managed to kill gods a few times before was because Universe Continent’s power suppressed them, plus Azure Dragon and Black Tortoise helped him out.
If Universe Continent’s suppression disappeared, he wouldn’t even stand a chance against a god.
Johnnie felt the pressure closing in. He needed to boost his strength, fast.
But right now, the most important thing was building the country.
"Master, Tetrasaint City is finished. We’re ready for the Beast Wave at any time." Vivian reported after hearing from her subordinates.
"Alright, let’s establish the city first." Johnnie headed for a city not far from the Chinese City, also right at the edge of the Dark Forest.
Powerful warriors from all the major battle zones had gathered and were ready to face the incoming Beast Wave.
Johnnie walked straight into the city governor’s residence, took out the City Establishment Order, and activated the Citadel Altar.
[Announcement: Player Johnnie has established Tetrasaint City. In half an hour, the Beast Wave will arrive.]
...
The announcement rang out three times.
By now, plenty of factions had already built cities—people were used to it.
But this time it was Johnnie building the city, so it definitely drew a lot of attention.
Many players had already guessed what he was up to—he was getting ready to build a country.
He already controlled three cities, but Vivian’s Solaris City was too far away to support the others if he built a country.
So building a new city on the edge of the Dark Forest clearly meant he was planning to found a country.
Players started gathering on the outskirts of the Dark Forest, coming to witness the event.
Inside the newly-risen Tetrasaint City, countless powerful figures assembled.
The elites of all five battle zones were there: more than half a million players, all at stage 4 or higher, and quite a few soldiers had even broken through to stage 5.
Besides them, there were the Yett Family disciples, and over fifty thousand elite warriors from the four Sacred Beast clans—Azure Dragon, Black Tortoise, and Phoenix among them.
There just weren’t any powerhouses from the White Spirit Tiger Race.
Johnnie figured the White Spirit Tiger Race hadn’t been wiped out—maybe they were hiding somewhere in that unknown space inside the Map of Heaven and Earth.
After he finished building the country, he decided he would explore that mysterious place again.
Roar, roar...
At that moment, furious roars echoed from the mountains and forests as countless monster armies gathered.
Johnnie took a quick look around. This time, the Beast Wave wasn’t all that strong—most of the monsters were just stage 2 or stage 3.
With the players’ current strength, fending off this kind of Beast Wave was a walk in the park.
What really concerned him was the direction of the Dark Forest.
The Dark Forest was vast and mysterious—there were even beings above stage 7 in there, not to mention the already revived Haldrem Empire.
Although the newly promoted Pluto Lisa had been killed and put to sleep by him, the Haldrem Empire hadn’t disappeared. If they showed up to cause trouble, it could get messy.
But over by the Dark Forest passage, it was dead silent—not even a single monster appeared.
Johnnie still didn’t feel at ease. He found Dylan, who was commanding the defense, and said, "Brother Li, I’ll leave this Beast Wave to you guys. I’ll keep my eyes on the Dark Forest."
Dylan nodded, totally confident. "Don’t worry. With our strength now, handling the Beast Wave is no problem at all."
Johnnie trusted his skills.
Besides, he’d already reached the peak of stage 5. Killing these weak monsters wouldn’t even give him experience anymore.
After the Cosmic Eclipse Blade’s upgrade, only monsters at his level or higher would trigger its effect.
Of course, Lucky Master’s loot bonus still worked, but he really couldn’t care less about the junk dropped by stage 2 and stage 3 monsters.
Roar!
Furious roars rang out. As the half hour ended, the monster army that had gathered in the woods surged forward, darkening the sky as they charged right at the city walls.
Dylan watched the spectacle, completely unfazed, and calmly gave the order: "Archers and mages, get ready!"
Players gathered on and below the city walls drew their weapons, nocked arrows to their longbows, and began gathering magic.
"Loose!" The moment the Beast Wave came within range, Dylan called out, and a rain of arrows shot through the sky while spells roared down, blanketing the enemy.
Boom, boom...
Thunderous explosions echoed, mingled with the monsters’ furious roars and dying screams. In just an instant, over half the front line of the Beast Wave was wiped out.
But the monsters were fearless, charging forward over the bodies of their fallen, howling as they threw themselves at the walls.
Dylan didn’t panic in the slightest. He kept directing the soldiers, making sure the archers and mages rotated their attacks in an orderly rhythm.
The same thing happened at the other walls—the defending players easily kept the Beast Wave at bay.
The first wave of beasts probably wouldn’t even break through the archers’ and mages’ defensive lines.
Seeing all this, Johnnie finally relaxed.
Under his leadership, the soldiers from every battle zone had grown much stronger, and handling a Beast Wave of this size was a piece of cake.
"So strong!"
Players watching from a distance were blown away.
"Damn, I came all this way hoping to help Johnnie fend off the Beast Wave, but it looks like we won’t even get a chance to join the fight."
"Well, you never know—this is just the first Beast Wave. The next ones are bound to be stronger, and the Dark Forest side’s still quiet."
"I wonder if Johnnie will be the first to build a country this time."
"I doubt it. Building a country triggers a god’s arrival. No matter how strong Johnnie is, he’s still no match for a god."
"Hmph, this isn’t the first time Johnnie’s killed a god. Anyone still talking crap at this point?"
...
Everyone was talking and speculating.
A lot of the players here were from the major guilds. They weren’t here to loot—they actually wanted to help Johnnie defend the city.
Last time, when Chinese City was founded, the big guilds pitched in and got plenty of rewards out of it.
But looking at this Beast Wave, it was clear their help wasn’t even needed.
Maybe when it was time to build the country and the Beast Wave got bigger, they’d have a chance to jump in.
Roar, roar...
The monsters’ howls and wails continued to echo.
Time ticked by. Before long, twelve hours had passed, and the Beast Wave was almost over.
Now, the strongest monsters showing up were only stage 5. The soldiers felt a little pressure, but with Azure Dragon and the others helping, they held the line with ease.
Johnnie kept his eyes glued on the Dark Forest.
The Beast Wave was about to end, but there was still no movement from that direction.
It seemed the monsters of the Dark Forest had no intention of attacking Tetrasaint City.
Johnnie was honestly a little surprised by that.
