Chapter 183: Chapter 183: The Army Surrounds the City, Johnnie Takes Action
"Could it be the Land of Confusion?" Johnnie wondered, recalling the vast expanse outside Stellar City known as the Land of Confusion. That place was no less formidable than the Universe Continent—endless territory, countless races, and completely isolated from the Universe Continent.
If the Demon race were also players, it was very likely they’d descend into the Land of Confusion.
"Looks like I’ll have to make a trip to the Land of Confusion myself," Johnnie murmured to himself.
One of the fragments of the Map of Heaven and Earth was also hidden somewhere in the Land of Confusion. He had no choice but to go.
According to Grayden, Lord of Stellar City, one needed to reach Stage 7 strength to even enter and explore the Land of Confusion.
But Johnnie’s power couldn’t be measured by common standards. Right now, he was strong enough to kill even Stage 9 elites.
Pushing those thoughts aside, Johnnie turned his attention back to the battle raging below.
The Beast Wave kept surging in. The Demon race fighters weren’t weak either. If the attacking army were only of this caliber, they might just be able to hold the line.
But Johnnie knew the real threat was still to come: the Undead monster legions of the Haldrem Empire, and the demonic creatures of the Heaven-Devil Empire.
Both sides had divine-level powerhouses—there might even be more deities hiding in the shadows.
Time ticked by. Soon, Stage 7 monsters appeared amidst the Beast Wave: Armored Dracobeasts and Rock Dragons.
"Stage 7, Sub-Dragon-type monsters!" Johnnie’s eyes lit up.
These Armored Dracobeasts and Rock Dragons were exactly what he needed for his Dragon Patterned Sword to evolve.Plus, Armored Dracobeasts were metal attribute monsters, and Rock Dragons were earth attribute—both would help his Mage of the Five Elements class advance.
His advancement quest for Mage of the Five Elements only lacked the slaying of a thousand metal, earth, and water attribute monsters.
During the last "Ruins of the Four Sacred Beasts" quest, he had collected quite a few Five Element Spirit Orbs, pushing all his elemental talents above 30%.
His fire talent, in particular, had reached 100%, allowing him to comprehend 1% of the Fire-Element Law.
There were also water attribute monsters among this wave. If he slaughtered them, he could complete his Stage 4 Mage advancement and ascend to Stage 4.
But Johnnie held himself back. His main objective right now was to prevent the Doe Family from founding their own country—he didn’t want to reveal himself just yet.
There would be plenty of opportunities to hunt those attribute monsters later.
"Master, two divine beings have arrived!" Maiev’s voice suddenly rang in his mind."Two of them!" she emphasized.
So, they’ve finally shown up.
Johnnie wasn’t surprised. He asked in his mind, "Can you tell which two?"
Maiev focused, then replied, "Both are familiar faces. One is radiating Pluto’s aura, the other is that Demon God, Bachel."
Johnnie nodded. These two had clearly come for the Doe Family.
It seemed that after the Doe Family’s ancestor, Douglas, refined the Pluto Divine Soul, he still hadn’t become a Pluto powerhouse himself.
Princess Lisa of the Haldrem Empire had now ascended to become the new Pluto.
Johnnie also spotted the massive army approaching in the distance.
The Undead monster legions of the Haldrem Empire, the magic soldier battalions of the demonic creatures—each side numbered over a million, sweeping across the land, with even other monsters fleeing before their might.
Meanwhile, the Beast Wave was already showing signs of retreat.
The assault wasn’t quite over yet, but it looked like the next wave would come from the Haldrem Empire and the Heaven-Devil Empire.
"Looks like I won’t need to step in after all." Johnnie muttered to himself.
With two divine-level powerhouses now on the scene, there was no way the Doe Family could hold the city. The strongest defender inside the walls was just a Stage 9 Demon race legend.
Stage 9 warriors were terrifying, but in front of a deity, they were nothing but ants.
Even though the Universe Continent’s power suppression hadn’t faded yet and the gods’ strength was still somewhat limited, wiping out a Stage 9 was still effortless for them.
"Looks like the monsters are pulling back. Is the Beast Wave finally over?"
Some distant players watching the battle noticed the movement and started asking questions.
The Beast Wave had already lasted twelve hours, but only ten had passed so far.
"Wait, that’s not it—look, there’s a new enemy coming! It’s an army!" someone suddenly shouted, spotting the two massive forces approaching from afar.
"They look like the armies of the Haldrem Empire and the Heaven-Devil Empire."
The two legions, separated by several kilometers but moving in perfect formation, were both advancing straight toward Vortanis City.
"So this is what an age of imperial conquest looks like? Armies of a million strong, and almost all of them Stage 5 or Stage 6 elites."
"Looks like the Doe Family’s plans to Build a country are doomed this time."
"I wonder if Johnnie the guru could actually hold off an assault of this scale..."
"Ha! You’re giving Johnnie way too much credit. He’s just one guy—no matter how powerful, how can he possibly take on a million-strong army? Players are still pretty weak right now; there’s no way they can share the burden with him."
"Well, don’t be so sure. Last time, when Johnnie founded the Chinese City, the monsters he faced were way beyond what regular players could handle, too."
"But that’s different. Beast Waves just mindlessly charge ahead, but these armies have real commanders. Besides, if I remember right, Johnnie actually failed to protect the Chinese City last time too. It was only because that White Spirit Tiger with wings suddenly appeared that the city was saved in the end."
...
Players argued heatedly, with no shortage of Johnnie’s fans—but just as many doubted him.
To them, Johnnie’s strength had to be some kind of cheat or a game exploit; there was no way a regular player could be so much stronger than the rest.
By this time, the monster horde had fully retreated, and both the Undead and Demonic Creature armies had Vortanis City completely surrounded, though neither seemed in any hurry to attack.
Johnnie still hovered high above, hidden within a cloud, curiously sizing up the leader of the Undead army.
It was a woman, riding atop a Skeleton Dragon. She wore gleaming silver armor and carried a long spear, golden curls cascading over her shoulders. There was a regal elegance about her, though a powerful aura of death radiated from her every pore.
This had to be Princess Lisa of the Haldrem Empire, the newly ascended Pluto-class powerhouse.
Lisa looked up, her gaze piercing the clouds and locking onto Johnnie. She frowned ever so slightly.
Clearly, she’d noticed him, but she chose not to react.
Johnnie got a good look at her, too: an angelic face, but with ice-cold eyes that betrayed no trace of human emotion.
Lisa turned away, guiding her Skeleton Dragon to the base of the city wall.
"Lisa, Bachel—it’s been a while."A voice rang out from atop the wall—the voice of that Stage 9 Demon race legend.
Facing the two deities, he showed not the slightest fear. His voice rang out clear and confident:"You two, Vortanis City has thrived under the protection of the Demon race. For our sake, how about you withdraw your armies and let this go?"
"Hmph!" Lisa snorted dismissively. "What, you supported the Demonic Creatures before and wiped out my Haldrem Empire. Now you want to back these players and destroy us again?"
"Nonsense!" came an angry shout from Bachel, standing nearby. He glared at Lisa, his voice brimming with indignation. "Your empire fell because the Demonic Creatures were stronger, not because of anyone’s support."
"Oh really?" Lisa sneered, her tone openly mocking. "How about we settle this the old-fashioned way? Let’s see who the true master of the Universe Continent really is!"
"Sounds good to me!" Bachel shot back, his aura surging as the tension between them hit a boiling point.
But neither made a move. Their true target this time was Vortanis City.
Lisa’s voice turned cold. "Let’s take care of business first. Once Vortanis City is destroyed, then we can settle our own score."
"Fine." Bachel agreed, once again fixing his gaze on the Demon race powerhouse atop the city wall.
Still, both seemed somewhat hesitant—not afraid of the man himself, but wary of the Demon race heavyweights behind him.
The Demon race legend spoke again:"I’m not asking you to withdraw for nothing. How about ten Fossils of Creation each? You both know the suppression over the Universe Continent is about to end. Those fossils are priceless to gods like you."
At his words, Lisa and Bachel hesitated.
Johnnie frowned, puzzled. He quietly asked Maiev, "What do Fossils of Creation do for deities like you?"
He knew Fossils of Creation could help players merge game attributes with reality, but for gods, it had to be something else.
"Master, Fossils of Creation help us comprehend the Laws. But they’re extremely rare." Maiev’s voice echoed in his mind.
So that’s the secret!
Johnnie understood now. Gaining deeper understanding of the Laws was hard for deities, and unlike players, they couldn’t just refine Spirit Stones to boost their Elemental Gifts.
Plus, refining Spirit Stones could only increase Law comprehension by 1% at most—after that, they’d have to find other ways to advance.
"Deal. Ten Fossils of Creation, and we’ll withdraw for now." Bachel agreed.
Lisa nodded her assent as well.
Clearly, the Fossils of Creation were too great a temptation to pass up.
"No." the Demon race legend shook his head. "You must also promise not to attack the Doe Family’s new Skyspire country for one month."
As long as the nation was established, it would give them a chance to develop rapidly. And in just seven days, when the suppression on the Universe Continent was lifted, the Demon race’s own deities could enter the fray themselves.
"Fine, no problem. Ten Fossils of Creation, and we guarantee not to act against Skyspire country for one month." Lisa and Bachel agreed.
Watching all this unfold, Johnnie’s frown deepened.
He’d thought he wouldn’t need to intervene this time, but he hadn’t expected both deities to be so easily bought off.
Dorian produced twenty Fossils of Creation, handing ten to each of them. With their prize in hand, Lisa and Bachel agreed to withdraw their armies.
The Doe Family has this many Fossils of Creation?
Johnnie was stunned as he watched the armies start to pull back, then made up his mind to act.
He didn’t just want to destroy the Doe Family’s Skyspire country—he wanted to take down these two deities as well.
"Dorian, did you ask for my permission before trying to found a country?"
A furious voice thundered from the skies above. A massive sword beam tore through the air, slashing straight down toward Vortanis City.
Lisa and Bachel weren’t surprised—they’d sensed Johnnie’s presence all along.
But a second later, their expressions changed.
"Three deities?!" Both could sense three distinct divine auras.
"You brat, how dare you!" The Demon race legend didn’t hesitate. He launched himself toward the oncoming sword beam.
Void Sword technique: Mountain Shatter!
Boom!
A deafening roar shook the earth as the Demon race legend was blasted backward, though he still managed to block the sword beam.
"Johnnie!" Dorian finally caught sight of the attacker, his face a mask of shock and disbelief. "How... How did you escape from the Land of Nothingness?!"
