One Night Stand With Alexander Blackwood-Chapter 63 — Sixty-three
After Alexander calmed Serena, he led her to her room.
"Take a rest, and I’ll handle the rest." He said to her. She was about to shake her head, but he pushed her to the bed. "Rest." It wasn’t a suggestion, but an order.
She took a deep breath as she laid on the bed. Alexander covered her with the duvet while he focused on her.
Her eyes were red and puffy, evident that she had cried for a long period.
"Just sleep." He placed a kiss on her forehead, and was about to walk out when he felt a slight tug on his hand.
He turned to see Serena staring at him with a pleading look.
"What’s wrong?" He asked carefully and quietly.
"You won’t leave me, right?" Her voice was filled with vulnerability which couldn’t be hidden even if she tried to. "You are the only one I have now. I can’t bear to lose you."
Alexander’s heart twisted painfully seeing her vulnerable expression. He patted her hands. "Don’t worry. I’ll always be by your side. I won’t leave your side."
"Do you promise?" She fluttered her eyelashes as she fixed her gaze.
He smiled. "It’s a promise."
When Alexander finally left the room, he met some officers in the room. He had sent a text message to them.
"Mr. Blackwood, we came as soon as we received your message." The one who seemed to be the leader stepped forward, and offered a bow of greeting.
Alexander waved his hands. "Have you checked the body?" He had already shed every shred of dignity. Now, his expression was cold, offering no sign of smile. He was just like the rumours: the King Yama.
The police officer swallowed, before nodding. "The knife wound was precise. It was definitely..." he hesitated, meeting Alexander’s eyes before continuing. "...murder."
Alexander scoffed. "I know this. I need to know who the culprit is. I have to get justice." His voice was cold, leaving no room for negotiations.
"Mr. Blackwood, it’s hard to know who was behind this. The killer was definitely smart. Even if we try, there’s no way to point out the killer."
The officer’s words were not wrong. There were no surveillance cameras in the room. It would be hard to find who was behind this.
Alexander laughed. Not out of amusement. But out of containing his anger. "Useless." He scoffed.
"Take care of the body." He paused, his eyes sweeping over the officers who seemed to be collecting evidence. "I’ll handle it myself. I just realised that the police department is useless. There is no use for this year’s contribution."
The officer widened his eyes. Alexander’s words were equal to the police department not functioning. "Mr. Blackwood..." he started, then paused having no words to utter.
"Perhaps..."
"Boss, we found something." There was a loud yell, and both men snapped their heads towards them..
Alexander strode quickly. Once he reached there, he demanded. "What did you find?"
"She held something tightly in her hand." The young officer started, then swallowed. Sensing Alexander’s keen gaze on him, he forced himself to continue. "It was hair." He showed Alexander the hair which had been placed in a plastic bag.
"Do you know what you can do with this?" Alexander asked with folded arms.
"Absolutely, Mr. Blackwood." The young man nodded excitedly. "The police department has a technology which can trace a person just by any part of his body."
The chief of the police slapped his forehead internally. He had wanted to close this case as an unsolved case. He needed to do a favour for the person behind him.
He had even lied about this matter. Thinking about this, he glared at the young man who was still excitedly chatting with Alexander who was keenly listening to him.
A few minutes later, Alexander snapped his head to the leader who was panicking within..
"Are his words true?" He probed, his sharp gaze filled on him. 𝒻𝑟𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝑛𝘰𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝘤𝘰𝘮
The man chuckled then nodded. He dared not lie.
"Perfect!" He clapped. "I’ll handle this myself."
"Mr. Blackwood, isn’t this too... inappropriate?" The man asked, his heart beating against his chest.
"Kevin, this concerns the woman I love. I have to do everything in my power to see that justice prevails. Or..." He paused, deliberately dragging his words. "...am I not welcomed in your department?" Alexander’s words were vague, but his keen gaze remained fixated on Kevin. He seemed to have sensed something.
Kevin nodded. "Of course. Mr. Blackwood is a major benefactor of our department. You are always welcome."
"Handle the body." He coldly ordered, then walked back into the living room.
Kevin only heaved a sigh of relief when Alexander walked away. Putting a cold expression, he turned to the junior officer who was handling the body.
"Why did you let Mr. Blackwood know about our technology?" He demanded, his cold gaze fixed on him.
Kevin thought that the junior officer would feel cowered but reality is often disappointing from expectations..
The junior officer only chuckled. "Do you think we can hide anything from Mr. Blackwood? That’s impossible. And besides, didn’t you hear what he said?" The man paused then took slow steps towards him.
"If the chief officer of the Precinct finds out that Alexander pulls out his funds from our department, do you know what would happen." He laughed.
He then leaned into Kevin’s ears, whispering. "I know you took money from that woman to hide this matter. Truth would always prevail."
Kevin swallowed. He thought he did it secretly. But he never expected that someone would discover his secret..
"What do you plan to do? You know you can’t do anything to me. I still remain your senior." Kevin put up a brave front.
The junior only laughed. "Senior?" He repeated with laughter. "I wonder if you’d still remain a senior once everyone finds out you took money to cover a large scale murder."
"You wouldn’t dare!" He raised his voice, pointing his shaky fingers at him.
"I’m afraid it’s too late." Alexander’s cold voice resounded from behind, and Kevin’s eyes widened.
Only one thought crossed his mind at that particular moment: He was finished!
