Chapter 59: Chapter 59 — Fifty-nine

When Serena and Maya arrived at the company, they met strange gazes from the interns as well as their colleagues. Although Serena was used to these stares, today felt different.

"They are staring." Maya whispered into her ears. "It feels different." She added while her eyes darted suspiciously.

"Didn’t you hear? She was kidnapped and Alexander saved her."

"I heard he used a gun which is against his principles."

"All for her?" Another one muttered.

"It seems he likes her. Next time, we should steer clear of her path"

They thought their voices were low but each statement uttered fell into their ears.

It seemed that yesterday’s situation had spread. But how had it spread?

Maya was about to lash out, and berate them but Serena shook her head, indicating that it wasn’t worth it.

Maya stomped her feet. "I just want to give them a piece of my mind. Can’t they mind their business?" She rolled her eyes.

Serena chuckled softly. "People talk. It isn’t something new." Although she said this, her mind still reeled from the whispers.

They both walked into the elevator and only separated when Maya arrived on her floor.

When she finally reached the top floor, she sighed. Fortunately, Alexander’s office was free from the nosy employees.

She walked straight to her small office, not sparing a glance at his office.

Meanwhile, Alexander arrived early. From the window, he watched her walk straight to her office without dropping by, and he was taken aback.

"What’s wrong with her?" He murmured under his breath before he rose to his feet. His gaze dropped to the brown folder, and his expression softened before he picked it up.

"There is no doubt that she would be filled with excitement when I hand it over to her."

Like a boy who was about to propose to his highschool crush, Alexander strode out of the office. His steps were steady but were filled with the right urgency.

Knock knock!

A knock sounded on the door. Serena who was sorting out some documents raised her head. She exhaled because she knew who it was. At the end of the day, he still found out about her presence... not like she could run from him.

"Come in." She uttered quietly. The door knob creaked slightly and Alexander stepped in, closing the door behind him.

"You didn’t stop by my office." He started with one hand in his pocket, and the other hand holding the folder. "Didn’t you read my message?"

Serena sighed, then gestured for him to have a seat. He was still her boss.

"I read the message, and I wanted to visit you in the office." She paused, eyeing him. "But the event of yesterday has spread. Practically everyone in the office knows that I was kidnapped but saved by you."

Alexander’s eyelashes fluttered. He was genuinely speechless. "How did this spread?" His tone betrayed his shock as he rubbed the space between his forehead.

Serena stared at him skeptically. She had thought that he was the one who spread it—perhaps as a warning or whatnot—that was why she decided to ignore him... even if she couldn’t do so.

But looking at his sincere expression, she began to doubt things.

"You weren’t the one who spread it?" She probed carefully.

"Do I look like someone who has nothing better to do?" He rebutted, and she nodded. Truly, Alexander didn’t have a lot of free time on his hands..

"You don’t have to worry. I would get to the bottom of this." He clenched his palms into fists. "I think I know who is behind this." He muttered under his breath.

Serena stared at him. She didn’t hear his last statement. Instead, her gaze drifted to his hand..

"What are you holding?" She asked curiously, then her eyes sparkled as she recalled his text message. He had something to give her. Could it be that?

Alexander smiled seeing her eager expression.

"This is for you." He handed the folder to her.

Serena received it, curiously staring at it. She then flicked her expectant gaze at him while smiling widely.

"You can open it." He said. And without hesitation, she brought the document out.

Her eyes skimmed through it, and with each word she read, her eyes went wide with surprise. When she was done, tears had already gathered in her eyes.

"Alex..." she trailed off, she was short of words, unable to come up with the easiest appreciation words.

Suddenly, she shot to her feet, the chair scraping the floor. She walked around the desk, and planted a kiss on his lips. A bold move from her.

Alexander’s expression changed. He had expected a lot of things from her, but definitely not this.

When she was about to pull away, Alexander pulled her closer to him, deepening the kiss.

Both tongues fought for dominance, and in the end, Alexander won as he took over the kiss. The kiss lasted for a few seconds, and he only let her go when he heard her pants and noticed the way her body was arched. It was not comfortable.

Once he let her go, he rose to his feet and pulled her into his arms. This time, Serena didn’t struggle. She remained in his arms.

If she’s having doubts that Alexander liked her or not, this was enough to clear her doubts.

He had given her a gift she thought she would never have..

"Alex..." She called out, her voice soft..

Hearing her soft voice made an itch appear in his heart. Suppressing his desires, he said. "I’m here."

"Thank you." She said genuinely. "Never would I have thought that I would be given ownership to my mother’s bakery. This is genuinely the best gift you’ve given me."

"I’m glad that I was able to bring a smile to your face." He chuckled, his chest reverberating against her ears. To Serena, this was the most pleasant sound she had heard.

Then—

She disengaged from his arms, and looked at him. "How did you get ownership? And also, I haven’t heard of my dad in a long time." Giving him a pointed stare, "what did you do? I don’t know the details, but I know you’ve done something." 𝒇𝓻𝓮𝓮𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝓬𝓸𝒎

Alexander rubbed his nose guiltily. He didn’t expect her to ask this question after a long time.

"You don’t have to worry. Your dad won’t disturb you anymore." He said vaguely. He didn’t want her to worry about useless matters.

But Serena wasn’t having it. She had her hands around her waist as she stared at him deeply. She wanted an answer, and there was no debating that.

Alexander exhaled. "Do you really have to know? Aren’t you happy this way?" He smiled softly..

But she shook her head. "He still remains my father even if I hate to admit it."

Alexander let out a deep breath before explaining it to her. It turned out that he had acquired Wilson Corps. And, Grant had been demoted to the least job—a janitor.

Serena listened to him, and her eyes bulged in shock. She knew he was ruthless. But she didn’t expect this level of ruthlessness.

"Why did you do it?" She asked calmly. Alexander was silent for a while and as the silence stretched, Serena’s heart raced. She seemed to know his answer..

"It’s because I love you." Alexander answered without batting an eyelid. His eyes were sincere, and his expression was soft... a rare sight.
