Chapter 21: Chapter 21: Going to Lockwood Headquarters

Damian Rivers got back into his convertible, lowered the top, and sped off.

The crowd of onlookers buzzed with gossip.

Someone said, "Wasn’t that the Heir of the Rivers family just now? Is he pursuing Chloe Sterling?"

Although Chloe Sterling wasn’t a student at The Medical College, she was known by everyone there because she had joined the top-secret laboratory.

After all, for a non-student to join the top-secret laboratory was completely unprecedented at The Medical College.

"Looks like it. This Chloe Sterling is really something."

"If she weren’t, how could she have gotten into the top-secret laboratory?!"

"True. But she is undeniably beautiful. Looking at Esther Sterling by herself, you’d think she’s gorgeous, but standing next to Chloe Sterling, she seems much less remarkable."

Listening to the voices around her, Esther Sterling clenched her fists, her nails digging so hard into her palms that she didn’t even feel the pain.

’Although she knew those men were only interested in Chloe Sterling’s face and would never be serious with a country bumpkin like her, she was still burning with rage. While she was still trying to find a way to get close to Damian Rivers, that bitch had already hooked up with him. She wished she could tear Chloe to pieces.’

Damian Rivers drove up beside Chloe Sterling, following her slowly. "Chloe, you don’t actually have a boyfriend, do you? You were just lying to me, right?"

Chloe Sterling ignored him.

Damian Rivers tried again. "If you won’t be my girlfriend, that’s fine. But you can at least agree to be my coach, right? I’ve asked you so many times in all sincerity. Name your price. Any amount is fine."

’He decided to change tactics. First, he’d create opportunities for them to spend time together, and then their feelings would naturally develop over time.’

The parking lot was just ahead. Chloe Sterling stopped in her tracks as she saw her car, then suddenly turned to Damian Rivers. "I can agree to be your coach, but on one condition."

Damian Rivers’s eyes lit up. "Name it. Don’t just say one condition—this young master will agree to a hundred if you ask."

A sly glint flashed in Chloe Sterling’s beautiful eyes. "In a moment, I’ll drive my own car. If you can keep up with me to the destination, I’ll agree."

"You want to race me?"

Chloe Sterling nodded.

’Damian Rivers almost burst out laughing. He might not be confident about other things, but he was always playing with cars. Racing was definitely his strong suit. For Chloe Sterling to propose such a condition was as good as agreeing to his request directly.’

"Fine," Damian Rivers chuckled. "No take-backs."

Chloe Sterling added, "But if you lose, you’re not allowed to bother me again."

"No problem," Damian Rivers agreed.

Chloe Sterling walked into the parking lot and, a moment later, drove out in a regular sedan. The luxury cars in Jasper Lockwood’s garage were too high-profile for her liking, so she had bought herself an ordinary car.

Looking at the car she was driving, then back at his own sports car, Damian Rivers said, "Chloe, I think you should just agree to my offer. There’s no way you can win."

"Don’t speak too soon." Chloe Sterling stomped on the gas and shot forward.

Damian Rivers didn’t start his car right away. ’She’s a girl, after all. I should give her a head start.’

He waited until Chloe Sterling’s car had left The Medical College gates before he leisurely set off, quickly catching up to her.

The road was quite busy, so Chloe Sterling didn’t drive too fast. She saw Damian Rivers following behind her but wasn’t in a hurry to accelerate.

After they passed the main road by The Medical College, Chloe Sterling accelerated rapidly.

Seeing this, Damian Rivers immediately sped up to follow. His initial confidence and composure began to fade into tension. They reached an industrial park with complex terrain. Chloe Sterling had already lost him once, and now she had done it a second time. He looked everywhere for a while but couldn’t even find a shadow of her car.

’It seemed she had actually lost him!’

Realizing this, Damian Rivers didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. He had actually been ditched by a girl, and he was driving a sports car, no less.

Chloe Sterling had already left the industrial park and was nearing the city center.

Damian Rivers sent a voice call. "Where are you?"

Chloe Sterling said, "You lost."

Damian Rivers: "..."

"Don’t forget what you promised me." With that, Chloe Sterling hung up.

Damian Rivers: "..."

’This woman has absolutely no respect for me!’

’Am I not handsome enough, or not rich enough?!’

For the first time in his life, the Heir of the Rivers questioned himself.

Chloe Sterling’s car stopped at a red light. She noticed the building next to her—it was the Lockwood Group Headquarters.

After a moment of thought, she changed lanes when the light turned green and made a left turn toward the Lockwood Group Headquarters.

Inside the building, there were several security gates, and a guard at the entrance stopped her. "Hello, how may I help you?"

"I’m here to see President Lockwood," Chloe Sterling said.

"Do you have an appointment?"

"No."

"I’m sorry, but you can’t go up without an appointment."

Chloe Sterling said nothing more and stepped aside to call Henry Chamberlain. "Henry, I’m downstairs at Lockwood Headquarters. Could you tell the security guard to let me in?"

"Madam, you’re at headquarters?" Henry Chamberlain’s voice was tinged with surprise.

"Mm-hmm," Chloe replied.

"Please wait a moment, I’ll come down to get you. You can’t come up without a pass."

"Okay, I’ll wait for you here."

After hanging up, Chloe Sterling waited quietly.

Just then, Phoebe Sinclair suddenly walked over and said to the guard, "Let me in. I’m here to see President Lockwood."

The guard recognized Phoebe Sinclair and said firmly, "I’m sorry, Miss Sinclair, but you can’t go in."

Phoebe Sinclair’s expression didn’t change as she said, "I’m here on behalf of The Sinclair Group to discuss a partnership with President Lockwood. I have an appointment."

The guard replied, "Miss Sinclair, we have orders from above that you are not allowed to enter the building."

Hearing this, Phoebe Sinclair could no longer remain composed. ’Jasper Lockwood actually did this to me? He gave specific orders to bar me from the Lockwood Group?’

The guard spoke again, "Ladies, please leave."

Only then did Phoebe Sinclair notice Chloe Sterling standing nearby. She remembered that face—it was the doctor who went to the Rivers Family to treat Old Master Rivers. ’Why is she at the Lockwood Group?’

"What are you doing here?" Phoebe Sinclair demanded with a condescending air.

Chloe Sterling looked at her coldly and ignored her.

Phoebe Sinclair was already in a bad mood, and seeing such an attitude, her face darkened. ’She’s just a doctor. I’m gracing her with my presence by even speaking to her, but this woman doesn’t know her place!’

The guard didn’t recognize Chloe Sterling and assumed she was just another one of those women who daydreamed about seducing Jasper Lockwood. So he deliberately said, "This lady is also here to see President Lockwood, but she doesn’t have an appointment."

A flash of surprise crossed Phoebe Sinclair’s face, which then turned into a cold sneer. Her tone was mocking. "Here to see President Lockwood? Just anyone dares to show up looking for him these days! What do you want with Jasper Lockwood? Do you think you can climb the social ladder and become a phoenix just because you have a pretty face?"

Chloe Sterling glanced sideways at her, her voice icy. "And who are you that I should have to answer you?"

Phoebe Sinclair’s eyes narrowed, her tone full of menace. "I suggest you watch your tone with me! Or you’ll face consequences you can’t afford."

Chloe Sterling sneered.

"What are you laughing at? You think I’m just trying to scare you?"

A smirk played on Chloe Sterling’s lips. "I’m laughing at how you’re not just delusional, but stupid too."
