On the Day I Was Kicked Out of the Wealthy Family, I Had a Flash Marriage with a Tycoon-Chapter 17: Already Taken
The staff had come and cleaned the floor.
Phoebe Sinclair walked over and saw that Old Master Rivers’s condition had improved significantly, she smiled faintly. "Grandpa Rivers, you look much better."
Mrs. Rivers said, "It’s all thanks to you, Phoebe."
But soon, something went wrong with Old Master Rivers. His face grew redder and redder, and he looked to be in great pain.
Damian touched the old master’s forehead and exclaimed, "He’s burning up! Why is he burning up."
"I told you he couldn’t take the whole spirit pill at once. The patient’s body can’t handle it, and the recovery process will be agonizing." As she spoke, Chloe opened her bag.
Mr. Rivers’s expression turned grim. He hadn’t expected this to happen.
Phoebe stood to the side, her lips pressed together in silence. Even though she was in the wrong, she maintained her haughty demeanor, refusing to pay any mind to people she considered insignificant.
Damian immediately asked, "Chloe, is there any way to ease my grandfather’s pain?"
Chloe took a bottle of pills from her bag, poured one out, and handed it to him. "Have Old Master Rivers take this."
Damian Rivers fed the pill to his grandfather without hesitation.
"What kind of medicine is this?" Mrs. Rivers asked.
"It’s a medication to temporarily relieve Old Master Rivers’s pain," Chloe replied while writing out a prescription on a piece of paper. She handed it to Damian. "Get this prescription filled. He needs to take it for three days."
"I’ll send someone," Mr. Rivers said, taking the prescription and ordering one of his men to get the medicine immediately.
After a little while, Old Master Rivers’s complexion finally returned to normal, as the look of agony gone.
Mr. Rivers looked a bit embarrassed, as he said, "Miss Sterling, thank you."
Before Chloe could speak, Phoebe cut in. "Uncle, Auntie, now that Grandpa Rivers is fine, I shall leave."
Mr. and Mrs. Rivers were more grateful to Phoebe. After exchanging some pleasantries, Mrs. Rivers personally escorted Phoebe out.
Phoebe was perfectly polite on the surface, but her expression soured the moment she got back in her car.
Although the Sinclair Family and the Rivers Family were old friends, she looked down on the Rivers. The only reason she’d helped was that Mrs. Rivers was the Lockwood Family’s adopted daughter. While Mrs. Rivers didn’t interact with the Lockwood Family often to avoid gossip, she was deeply favored by Old Master Lockwood. Otherwise, Phoebe would never have given a spirit pill to that old man from the Rivers Family.
She did all of this just to get close to Old Master Lockwood—the central figure of the Lockwood Family and the only person Jasper Lockwood was close to.
Thinking of Jasper Lockwood, Phoebe’s brows furrowed again. She had been back for a week, but Jasper still refused to see her.
She didn’t understand why. ’Jasper clearly cares about me.’
Two years ago, when she had gathered the courage to confess her feelings to Jasper, she was rejected. Heartbroken, she went to Country E. But soon after, she heard that Jasper had sent people to Country E to find a woman.
She had just arrived in Country E at the time, changed her contact information, and deliberately told no one her address. ’He must have been looking for me. So he was worried about me after all.’
She had been so happy back then and waited in Country E, but Jasper never came. In a fit of pique, she stayed in Country E, only to hear that he had suddenly gotten married.
She heard his new wife was a cast-off daughter from some minor family, a country bumpkin they’d found in the countryside.
She guessed Jasper must have married such a woman for company shares, so she felt a little better at this.
Staring out the car window, Phoebe was filled with regret. She regretted her impulsive decision to leave, and that wasted her two years.
’If I had stayed in Crestfall, maybe Jasper would have chosen to marry me instead.’
After a moment of thought, Phoebe ordered the driver, "I’m not going home. Take me to the Lockwood Group."
Old Master Rivers finally regained consciousness, and the Rivers breathed a collective sigh of relief.
Chloe said her goodbyes to everyone, and Mr. and Mrs. Rivers offered her some polite thanks.
She had just stepped out of the house when Damian followed up. "Chloe, let me give you a ride back. It’s hard to get a taxi around here."
Chloe glanced at him. "Thank you for your efforts."
"It’s no trouble at all," Damian said. "Are you heading back to the Medical College?"
"Yes."
Back at the Medical College, the car stopped in front of the laboratory building.
Damian turned his head, and his gaze was fixed on Chloe. "Chloe, why do you keep rejecting me?"
Chloe Sterling said calmly, "Learning Ancient Martial Arts is grueling. You should just give up."
Damian cleared his throat. "Actually... I don’t necessarily have to learn Ancient Martial Arts. I just want to see you. Chloe, can you be my girlfriend?"
Chloe glanced at him sideways but didn’t say a word.
Damian raised an eyebrow. "What’s with that look?"
Chloe said, "I already have a boyfriend."
Hearing this, Damian froze for a second, then said, "So what if you have a boyfriend? It’s not like you can’t break up with him."
Chloe ignored him and pushed the door open to get out.
"Wait!" Damian said quickly. "Let’s add each other on WhatsAPP. That way I can consult you if anything else happens with my grandfather in the next couple of days."
"As long as he takes the medicine according to my prescription for three days, nothing else will happen," Chloe said.
"But I’m still worried."
After a moment of silence, Chloe took out her phone. "Don’t contact me unless it’s important. My boyfriend gets jealous easily."
Damian was speechless.
After they added each other on WhatsAPP, Chloe got out of the car and walked toward the laboratory building.
Damian watched her walk away with a complicated expression on the face.
"Chloe, how is Old Master Rivers?"
The moment Chloe returned, Director Xavier asked.
"Old Master Rivers is fine now, Director. Don’t worry."
Director Xavier said in surprise, "He is fine now! Chloe, you really are amazing. What method did you use?"
"I didn’t use any method. A Miss Sinclair brought Old Master Rivers a spirit pill."
"A spirit pill! The Sinclair Family has a spirit pill!"
"Yes, she said they won it at an auction."
"I see. Spirit pills are so rare. The Sinclair Family is truly generous."
The old project at the lab had concluded perfectly, and a few of them suggested going out for dinner that night to celebrate.
Director Xavier wasn’t interested in joining on young people’s fun, so he declined.
There were four people on this project team. Besides Chloe, there were two men and one woman, who were all top students at the Medical College.
"Chloe, Director Xavier isn’t coming with us, but you have to come," Maya Jacobs said with a smile.
The other two male students chimed in.
"Yeah, Chloe, you have to be with us. You were the biggest contributor to our success."
"That’s right, Chloe. Come with us."
Chloe smiled. "Okay."
The group arrived at the hotel. Maya had already booked a private room named "Four Seasons in Bloom." A waiter led the four of them directly to the room.
"Chloe, see what you’d like to eat."
Maya handed the menu to Chloe. She knew Chloe had grown up in the countryside and, after finally reuniting with her biological parents in Crestfall, had been kicked out by the Sterling Family. She felt quite sympathetic about her situation.
"Order whatever you want, don’t be shy. It’s my treat today."
Chloe smiled. "Anything spicy is fine with me. You guys can order."
She didn’t like ordering food.
Maya thought she probably hadn’t been to many high-end restaurants and didn’t know how to order, so she didn’t press the issue and ordered some spicier dishes for her.
"Chloe, were you living in the south before?" one of the male students asked.
Chloe said, "No, in the north. I just happen to like spicy food."
"Oh, I like spicy food too. I thought you grew up in the south like me."
Maya said, "Plenty of people from the north like spicy food too."
"That’s true."
The group chatted while waiting for their food.
Meanwhile...
Jasper Lockwood, Tristan Sinclair, and a few others also arrived at the same hotel.
