"I’ve met you before, Miss Sterling, but I had no idea you were a doctor." Damian Rivers was both surprised and delighted. "By the way, you don’t have to be so formal. Just call me Damian."

Director Xavier smiled. "It’s even better that you know each other. I’ll leave it to you to take Chloe there, Young Master Rivers. Chloe, hurry and see Old Master Rivers."

"Alright," Chloe said to Damian. "Let’s go, Young Master Rivers."

Damian Rivers nodded. "Director Xavier, we’ll be on our way then."

"Alright, you should hurry up."

The two of them got into the car.

Damian Rivers was delighted by the unexpected meeting with Chloe Sterling. ’So she isn’t just a special instructor at the martial arts gym,’ he thought, ’she’s a doctor, too.’

However, this wasn’t the time for flirting. His grandfather’s condition was the priority. "Chloe, are you one of Director Xavier’s students? Do you practice traditional medicine as well?"

"I practice traditional medicine, but I’m not a student of Director Xavier’s. I’m just participating in a research project at the Medical College," Chloe replied.

"Then where did you learn medicine?"

"In the countryside, from an old doctor of traditional medicine."

Damian Rivers froze for a second, clearly surprised by her answer.

From his expression, Chloe knew he had doubts in her. "Don’t worry," she said. "I’ve been studying medicine since I was a child and have treated many people."

"Oh." Damian snapped out of it, and felt that his reaction had been inappropriate. He smiled and explained, "Don’t get me wrong, I didn’t mean anything by it. I was just a little surprised. I trust Director Xavier’s recommendations completely."

Soon, the two of them arrived at the old Rivers family estate.

"Sir, Madam, the young master has returned," the butler announced.

Mr. and Mrs. Rivers immediately came out to greet them. When they saw the girl beside Damian, they stopped short.

Mr. Rivers glanced behind the two of them, and after confirming no one else was there, he said to Damian, "You rascal, I told you to go get a doctor. What were you doing?"

Mrs. Rivers exclaimed, "Damian, we told you to get a doctor! Why did you bring a young woman back with you?"

Damian said, "Mom, Dad, she is the doctor Director Xavier recommended. This is Chloe Sterling."

"What!"

"What!"

They exclaimed in unison, looking at Chloe in astonishment. ’She’s just a young girl!’

’Can she even be trusted?’

"Hello, Mr. and Mrs. Rivers. I’m Chloe Sterling. Director Xavier recommended me to come and examine Old Master Rivers."

Mr. Rivers sounded skeptical. "Young lady, how old are you? Have you even graduated?"

"Twenty," Chloe said. "Mr. Rivers, I don’t believe medical skill is directly related to age."

Mrs. Rivers added, "But you’re just too young. What kind of experience could you possibly have?"

Chloe said, "Why not let me examine Old Master Rivers first? Then you can see if I am capable of treating him."

Mr. and Mrs. Rivers hesitated. Damian interjected, "Mom, Dad, since Director Xavier himself recommended Miss Sterling, she must be a capable doctor. Let’s just have her take a look at Grandfather first."

After a moment of thought, Mr. Rivers said, "Very well. Please accept our trouble, Miss Sterling."

Just as they were about to head inside, a woman’s voice called out, "Uncle Rivers, Aunt Rivers, I think it would be wise to be more cautious."

At the sound of the voice, they all turned to look. A beautiful young woman was walking elegantly toward them in high heels, followed by two bodyguards.

"Phoebe!" Mrs. Rivers was the first to speak.

Phoebe Sinclair smiled faintly. "Uncle Rivers, Aunt Rivers, Damian. It’s been a long time."

The Rivers and Sinclair families had been friends for generations, and they were very close.

Mrs. Rivers smiled. "It certainly has. We haven’t seen you in so long. When did you get back?"

"I just got back. My dad told me Grandpa Rivers is seriously ill and that you’re looking for the Mysterious Pharmacist, Lynn Chester."

"That’s right," Mr. Rivers said quickly. "Phoebe, do you have any leads on her?"

"Lynn Chester has always been elusive, so I don’t have any information on her. However, I came specifically to bring some medicine for Grandpa Rivers." As she spoke, Phoebe held out her hand to a bodyguard, who immediately passed her a mahogany box, about the size of a Rubik’s Cube.

Phoebe took the box, gave it to Mrs. Rivers, and added, "This is a spirit pill I acquired at an auction in Country E."

"A spirit pill!" Damian exclaimed. "You mean the legendary medicine from Lynn Chester that’s nearly impossible to obtain, even for a fortune?"

Phoebe smiled. "Exactly. This should be able to save Grandpa Rivers."

Mr. Rivers was filled with gratitude. "This medicine is so precious... Phoebe, we don’t know how to thank you."

"There’s no need to be so formal, Uncle Rivers. Grandpa Rivers’s health is what matters now."

They had all but forgotten Chloe’s presence. Mrs. Rivers clasped Phoebe’s hand. "Phoebe, thank you, truly. You’ve been a tremendous help."

Damian turned to look at Chloe and asked, "Chloe, have you heard of the spirit pill? Can it really cure all illnesses?"

Chloe had, of course, heard of it. She was the one who had named it. "I have," she said. "The spirit pill contains a Thousand-year-old Spirit Grass that can indeed treat many conditions."

Damian raised an eyebrow. "It’s that amazing?"

"Yes," Chloe nodded.

She had once come across a stalk of Thousand-year-old Spirit Grass by chance and used it to refine the spirit pills. She’d only made thirteen in total.

Phoebe shot Chloe a dismissive glance, and her posture radiated superiority. She paid her no further mind. Insignificant people were beneath her notice.

Mrs. Rivers said, "Then hurry and have Dad take the spirit pill."

"Alright," said Mr. Rivers.

They went inside.

Chloe followed them inside.

Before they could even see Old Master Rivers, a fit of violent coughing echoed from his room.

Damian rushed into the room and stared in horror at the patch of blood on the floor. "Grandpa, you’ve coughed up blood again!"

Old Master Rivers was propped up against the headboard, his breathing faint. He didn’t even have the strength to utter a single word in response.

"Dad, how are you!" Mr. Rivers hurried over.

Chloe immediately stepped forward and placed her fingers on Old Master Rivers’s wrist to check his pulse. ’His condition is critical.’

Seeing Old Master Rivers on the sickbed and the blood on the floor, Phoebe frowned slightly. A flicker of repulsion and disgust crossed her face, and she remained standing at the doorway, making no move to enter further.

Damian immediately took the box from his mother’s hand, removed the spirit pill, and was about to give it to his grandfather.

"Wait!" Chloe called out. "He can’t take the spirit pill directly like that. Old Master Rivers is too weak to handle the full potency of the pill. It will cause him immense pain."

"Then what should we do?" Damian asked.

Chloe instructed, "Crush the spirit pill and administer it to Old Master Rivers over the course of three days."

"Will that really work?" Mrs. Rivers asked doubtfully.

"It’s the only way," Chloe stated firmly.

Phoebe suddenly spoke up in a disdainful tone. "The spirit pill is meant to save lives, not to harm them. Are you just saying this to make yourself seem important?"

After a brief pause, she added, addressing Mr. and Mrs. Rivers, "Uncle Rivers, Aunt Rivers, I don’t think we should waste any more time. Let’s give Grandpa Rivers the pill as soon as possible."

Chloe looked at the other woman as her voice turned icy. "Are you a doctor?"

Phoebe retorted, "I may not be a doctor, but I can see right through people like you."

Mr. Rivers had been skeptical of Chloe from the start. Compared to her, he was far more inclined to trust Phoebe. A pill that was famously difficult to acquire couldn’t possibly be the problem. He figured Chloe was just bitter about being upstaged, and tried to make herself seem important, just as Phoebe had suggested.

"Dad, we should do as Miss Sterling says," Damian insisted. He trusted Chloe.

After a moment’s consideration, Mr. Rivers said, "It’s the spirit pill. There won’t be any problems. Your grandfather is fading fast, so we need to give it to him now." With that, he took the pill from his son’s hand and fed it directly to Old Master Rivers.

It was too late to stop him.

Soon after he took the spirit pill, Old Master Rivers’s breathing grew steadier, and some color returned to his face.

Seeing this, everyone breathed a collective sigh of relief. At the same time, they became even more convinced that Chloe was just causing chaos.
