On the Day I Was Kicked Out of the Wealthy Family, I Had a Flash Marriage with a Tycoon-Chapter 136: Upset Stomach and Dry Heaving
After reading the message, Chloe Sterling opened her photo album. She looked at the picture she had just taken of the man, wondering what to do next. She couldn’t let him come back to the bar and cause trouble for Julian Xavier.
’Should I tell Jasper Lockwood? Or should I handle it myself?’
Just as she was pondering this, someone suddenly pushed the door open and walked into the private room. It was the man who had just been beaten up.
Maya Jacobs said in astonishment, "He’s back already?!"
Jean Kensington whispered in Chloe Sterling’s ear, "Should you tell Jasper Lockwood? Let him handle it? Or should I try to dig up some dirt on this guy?" 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝙬𝙚𝓫𝒏𝓸𝓿𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝙤𝓶
Before Chloe Sterling could speak, the man suddenly gave her a deep bow, his voice trembling. "Miss, I’m so sorry. I was blind and didn’t recognize who you are. I had a little too much to drink and acted like a fool. I deserve a beating. Please, I beg you, don’t lower yourself to my level."
The others were struck completely dumb.
What in the world was going on?
Confused, they all turned to look at Chloe Sterling, but Chloe herself was just as baffled. She hadn’t done a single thing.
The man lifted his head slightly and said again, "Miss, I really was just drunk. I was out of my mind for a moment. I’ll never dare to do it again, I swear. Please, forgive me. Or... or I can kneel. I’ll do anything, as long as you forgive me."
As he spoke, the man actually dropped to his knees with a heavy THUD.
Maya Jacobs and the others were so shocked their jaws nearly hit the floor.
It was no wonder the man was so terrified. Not long after leaving the bar, he had received a call from Fifth Young Master Lockwood himself, ordering him to immediately go back and apologize to the woman he had just offended. If he didn’t, the Fifth Young Master would have both him and his sister killed.
His sister was merely one of the Fifth Young Master Lockwood’s many mistresses. And while she might be a current favorite, marrying into the Lockwood Family was no easy feat.
Hearing the Fifth Young Master Lockwood’s grim warning, the man was so scared his legs went weak. He finally realized he had offended someone truly powerful. How else could the Fifth Young Master have contacted him personally so quickly and become so enraged?
At that moment, Julian Xavier spoke up. "Alright, you can go."
But the man didn’t dare to move. He looked timidly at Chloe Sterling, seemingly waiting for her permission before he would dare to leave.
Chloe Sterling slowly said, "You can go."
"Thank you, thank you..." The man scrambled to his feet. "Then I won’t disturb you any longer. I’ll get out of your sight."
After the man left the private room, Maya Jacobs exclaimed, "Chloe! What was all that about?"
"I don’t know either." As she spoke, Chloe Sterling turned to look at Julian Xavier, getting the feeling that he might know something.
Beside them, Wyatt Hank muttered, "Is that guy bipolar or something?"
In response to Chloe Sterling’s questioning gaze, Julian Xavier just smiled and said nothing.
Third Brother said, "Whatever happened, I’m just glad it was a false alarm. Now we don’t have to worry about the Lockwood Family coming after us."
Maya Jacobs said, "Yeah, thank goodness for that. It’s after eleven. Should we head out?"
Wyatt Hank replied, "Sounds good. I’m getting a little sleepy from the drinks."
Julian Xavier said, "Alright, let’s call it a night then. From now on, just come whenever you want. I’ll make the arrangements for you."
Chloe Sterling and Jean Kensington also agreed.
Maya Jacobs, Wyatt Hank, and Third Brother called a car and left first.
「At the entrance of the bar.」
Chloe Sterling asked Julian Xavier again, "What really happened back there?"
Jean Kensington was also curious. What trick had Julian Xavier pulled to make that man come back and apologize so quickly?
Julian Xavier explained, "While you were beating him up, I had the manager go and explain the situation to President Lockwood’s driver. I didn’t expect things to be handled so efficiently, but that’s a president’s personal driver for you. Chloe, it seems President Lockwood values you a great deal. Not only did he send his own driver to bring you out tonight, but he must have also personally spoken with the Fifth Young Master Lockwood about this. That’s the only reason that guy would be so terrified."
Jean Kensington blurted out, "How did you know it was President Lockwood’s personal driver who brought Chloe here?"
Julian Xavier replied, "The manager saw him while making his rounds and told me. President Lockwood isn’t here today, so his driver wouldn’t likely be chauffeuring anyone else."
Chloe Sterling understood. ’So that’s what happened. It seems Jasper Lockwood already knows,’ she thought.
Julian Xavier added, "I was worried that idiot would actually find some guys to ambush you on the road. Not everyone would recognize President Lockwood’s driver, and it would be bad if something happened."
"I understand," Chloe Sterling said. "You should head back inside. We’re leaving now."
Julian Xavier nodded. "Okay. Be careful on your way."
The driver hadn’t left; he was waiting to take Jean Kensington home.
Chloe Sterling saw Jean Kensington into the car, reminded the driver to drive safely, and then walked over to another car parked nearby.
Jasper Lockwood was sitting inside, and his sharp, elegant eyes glanced over.
Chloe Sterling said suddenly, "Thank you."
Jasper Lockwood said seriously, "Chloe, next time something like this happens, just tell me directly. I’ll handle it."
"...Alright." After a pause, Chloe Sterling asked, "Was that man really the Fifth Young Master’s fiancée’s brother?"
"Not his fiancée. Just one of his many mistresses."
In a top-tier wealthy family like the Lockwoods, it was nothing new for a man to have a string of mistresses.
Chloe Sterling wasn’t surprised, but she was a little disgusted, and her eyes turned cold.
But there was no way to stop this kind of thing. They had been born with silver spoons, born into the Lockwood Family. They had the capital to do whatever they pleased, and those women were willing participants.
Someone like Jasper Lockwood—in such a high position yet so self-disciplined—was a true rarity.
After a moment’s pause, Chloe Sterling glanced at Jasper Lockwood and suddenly asked, "Have you never thought about living a life with a woman on each arm, surrounded by beauties?"
"Never," Jasper Lockwood said, gazing at her with a firm and serious expression. "I only want one person for one lifetime."
Seeing his earnest and resolute expression, Chloe Sterling felt her heart skip a beat. She bit her lip. "...That’s good."
"What about you?" Jasper Lockwood asked.
"Me?" Chloe Sterling blinked. "What about me?"
Before Jasper Lockwood could speak, the car suddenly screeched to a halt. Chloe Sterling lurched forward, but a large hand immediately wrapped around her waist, pulling her into an embrace.
"Henry Chamberlain!" Jasper Lockwood snapped coldly.
A chill ran down Henry Chamberlain’s spine. He immediately explained, "Sir, Madam, I’m sorry! A car suddenly cut in front of us. If I hadn’t slammed on the brakes, we would have crashed."
Jasper Lockwood looked out the window. A sports car sped past, leaving only a blur in its wake.
Chloe Sterling was resting in Jasper Lockwood’s arms. The sudden jolt made her stomach churn, and she frowned, abruptly covering her mouth.
Jasper Lockwood asked at once, "What’s wrong?"
Chloe Sterling clutched her mouth and dry-heaved.
Seeing this, Jasper Lockwood’s expression changed slightly, and an unreadable emotion flickered in his eyes.
A moment later, Chloe Sterling recovered and said softly, "I’m fine. The alcohol tonight was probably a bit strong. The jolt just now upset my stomach."
After a moment of hesitation, Jasper Lockwood said, "Have you... have you felt sick to your stomach any other times recently? Dry-heaving like just now?"
Hearing this, Chloe Sterling froze for a second. When she realized what he was implying, her expression flickered through several shades. "...No!"
