Chapter 135: Chapter 135: Not So Lucky

The two returned to their private room.

Chloe Sterling introduced Julian Xavier and Jean Kensington to each other. Both were social butterflies, so they hit it off quickly, and the atmosphere in the room grew more and more cheerful.

About an hour later, Jean Kensington stood up with her phone and said to the others, "I’m going to step out to make a call. You guys carry on."

It was much quieter outside the private room. Jean Kensington called Dean Lynch. "Uncle Dean, is the baby behaving? Is he asleep?"

"He’s already asleep, don’t worry." After a pause, Dean Lynch suddenly asked, "Are you out somewhere?"

"Yeah. You took the baby, and I was bored all by myself, so I came out with some friends."

"Be careful out there this late at night. Don’t hang around with any shady characters."

"I know, I’m not a kid anymore. They’re really good friends of mine, I feel perfectly safe with them. You haven’t met her yet, but I’ll introduce you two someday."

"A male friend?" Dean Lynch asked tentatively.

Jean Kensington giggled. "Nope. A female friend who’s amazing at kung fu."

"Alright, have fun. Don’t be out too late."

"Okay. Good night."

After hanging up, Jean was about to head back to the room when a drunk man stumbled over, leering at her. "Hey, beautiful. All alone? How about big brother keeps you company?"

Jean Kensington shot the man a glare. "I don’t need it!"

"Hey, don’t go!" The man blocked Jean Kensington’s path, his eyes still roaming over her. "I was just saying this bar didn’t have a single decent-looking woman, just a bunch of plastic faces I’m sick of looking at. And then a real beauty like you shows up. Look at that face... prettier than any A-list celebrity!"

"Get lost!" Jean Kensington said coldly.

The man just gave a wicked grin. "Feisty, too. I like ’em fiery. Hahaha." As he spoke, he suddenly grabbed Jean Kensington’s wrist.

Just then, a cold voice shouted from nearby, "Stop!"

The man turned toward the voice, stunned for a moment before breaking into another grin. "Holy crap! Another gorgeous woman. Guess this is my lucky day."

"You sure are lucky." Chloe Sterling’s eyes narrowed, a cold glint flashing within them. She lunged forward and kicked the man squarely in the stomach. He grunted as he was sent flying several meters.

Hearing the commotion, Julian Xavier and the others rushed out.

"Chloe, what happened?"

Chloe Sterling gestured with her eyes toward the man groaning in agony on the floor.

Jean Kensington said, "We ran into some drunken scumbag."

The man suddenly rolled over onto his stomach, glaring at them. "You bitch, you dare hit me! Do you have any idea who I am? You just wait! I’m going to fucking kill you both!"

Julian Xavier strode forward, planted his foot on the man’s shoulder, and asked coldly, "Who are you? State your name."

The man cried out in pain, then snarled through gritted teeth, "I’m a Lockwood! In Crestfall, we are the law! You son of a bitch, you just wait!"

"A Lockwood!" Jean Kensington turned to Chloe Sterling. "Do you know him?"

Julian Xavier also looked at Chloe. He knew most of the young masters of the Lockwood Family, but he had never seen this man before.

Chloe Sterling shook her head slightly. She didn’t recognize him either. She walked up to him and asked, "Your last name is Lockwood?"

The man suddenly laughed. "What? Scared now?" He looked from Chloe Sterling to Jean Kensington and continued, "If you two don’t please me tonight, I’ll make you regret it! Now, help me up and take me back to my room, and then..."

Before he could finish, Chloe Sterling kicked him again, making the man cry out in pain.

"I’ll ask you one more time. Is your last name Lockwood, and what’s your full name?" Chloe Sterling demanded coldly.

"You fuc— AARGH!" The man started to curse again, only to receive another kick.

Maya Jacobs muttered, "Chloe is so fierce! And so cool!"

Wyatt Hank whispered, "She is pretty cool! But... that guy’s a Lockwood. Pissing off the Lockwood Family in Crestfall is a terrifying thing to do."

The third member of their group nodded.

The reality of the situation then hit Maya Jacobs, and her face filled with terror. "Yeah, what are we going to do?! We can’t afford to make an enemy of the Lockwood Family!"

Jean Kensington said calmly, "Don’t worry, it’s fine."

The three of them turned to her and said in unison, "It’s fine???"

Jean Kensington cleared her throat and explained, "I know all of the young masters of the Lockwood Family. This guy isn’t one of them."

Maya Jacobs: "You mean he’s bullshitting?"

Jean Kensington: "Most likely."

The man was in so much pain he almost passed out. He never expected a woman who looked so delicate to be so strong and ruthless. He was getting scared, worried that Chloe Sterling might actually kick him to death, so he blurted out, "My last name isn’t Lockwood! My younger sister is the future wife of the Lockwood Family’s fifth young master! We’re practically in-laws."

Julian Xavier couldn’t help but laugh. "His ’future wife’ makes you a Lockwood?"

"We’ll be one family sooner or later," the man said weakly. "Guess it’s my unlucky day. I can’t mess with you people. Let me go, and I’ll leave."

’Once I get back, I’ll call for backup. I’m not a man if I don’t teach them a lesson and get my hands on those two women.’

Chloe Sterling took out her phone, snapped a picture of the man’s face, and said coldly, "Scram."

Swallowing his humiliation, the man scrambled to his feet, clutched his stomach, and limped away.

Chloe Sterling returned to Jean Kensington’s side, took her hand to check her wrist, and asked, "Are you okay?"

Jean Kensington shook her head. "I’m fine. But you’re just letting that guy go? I have a feeling he’s going to come back with people to cause trouble."

Chloe Sterling said nonchalantly, "Then he’ll be even luckier."

Jean Kensington seemed to realize something and suddenly smiled. "He sure will be."

Chloe Sterling had been drinking tonight, so Jasper Lockwood would definitely be coming to pick her up. If that idiot dared to come back, he’d basically be asking for a death wish.

Maya Jacobs stared at them in astonishment. "Wait, how can you two still be smiling?! Even if he’s not a Lockwood, he’s still connected to them! We can’t afford to provoke him! We should run! ...Oh, wait, no, what about Young Master Xavier? We can run, but the bar can’t."

Wyatt Hank said, "He said his sister is the *future* wife of the Lockwood’s fifth young master. That means she isn’t yet. It might just be wishful thinking on their part. Maybe... the Lockwood Family won’t protect someone like that?"

Maya Jacobs: "Dude, you don’t even sound convinced yourself."

Wyatt Hank: "..."

Julian Xavier also looked unconcerned. "It’s fine. I trust that the Lockwood Family wouldn’t protect someone like him."

Jean Kensington said, "I think Wyatt has a point. It’s highly likely the guy is just desperately trying to associate himself with the Lockwood Family. Young Master Lockwood might not even acknowledge them, let alone protect them."

Maya Jacobs: "......You’re all so optimistic."

Chloe Sterling looked at her. "Don’t worry, nothing will happen. Let’s go back inside."

The group returned to their private room.

Chloe Sterling sent a text to Henry Chamberlain, asking if Jasper Lockwood was done with his business.

Henry Chamberlain replied immediately, saying he was about to finish up.

Chloe Sterling glanced at the time. It was already 10:30 PM. It would take Jasper Lockwood about half an hour to get here from where he was. They would probably wrap things up around 11:00 anyway.

So she replied: [When the Second Master is finished, come pick me up.]

Henry Chamberlain: [Yes, Ma’am.]
