Finally, Mr. Ren turned back to Jian Ci, his tone deferential. "Your Highness, please don’t take this bastard’s disrespect to heart. I will personally deal with him when he gets home."
Jian Ci’s lips curled into a sneer. "There will be no need for that."
Mr. Ren hurried to shower him with praise, his words flowing like rainbow farts. It was all empty flattery and exaggerated compliments meant to appease him. Jian Ci endured it in silence until the call ended.
The room fell quiet. Caelus sat pale and trembling, stripped of his arrogance. Jian Ci leaned forward, his aura pressing down like a storm.
"Now," Jian Ci said softly and dangerously. "Shall we continue our conversation?"
Caelus leaned back, glass in hand, his voice sharp but uncertain.
"How do you know my dad?"
Jian Ci’s eyes narrowed, his tone colder than steel.
"Who should be answering questions here, me or you?"
The weight of the words pressed down on Caelus. He shut his mouth, throat tight, before forcing out, "What do you want to know?" He took a sip, hoping the liquor would steady his nerves.
Jian Ci didn’t hesitate. He asked, "Have you slept with Yu Xi?"
The question hit like a blade. Caelus spat his drink, coughing violently.
"Cough cough why—cough would you ask that—cough?"
Jian Ci’s gaze was pure disgust, a look that stripped Caelus bare. Wiping his mouth, Caelus stammered, "W-why... that’s personal." But when his eyes met Jian Ci’s, terror rooted him in place. Jian Ci wasn’t joking.
For a fleeting moment, Caelus considered lying, saying yes just to provoke him. But Jian Ci’s expression promised murder, and Caelus now knew that his father would even forgive Jian Ci for ending him. He swallowed hard.
"He wouldn’t even let me touch him, let alone kiss him. So of course we didn’t... not that I didn’t want to."
Jian Ci’s chest eased, but the relief soured instantly. The fact that Caelus wanted Yu Xi burned like acid. His voice dropped to a threat that carried the weight of death itself.
"From now on, you better not even think of sleeping with him. Otherwise, I will make you disappear."
Caelus froze. He believed it. Every word of it. Jian Ci turned and walked out, leaving the air heavy with menace.
Only when the door shut did Caelus finally breathe. He chugged the liquor, desperate to calm the storm inside him. His hands trembled.
Who said Jian Ci was weak and friendly? That man was a demon in disguise.
But as the burn of alcohol settled, another thought clawed its way into Caelus’s mind. His brows furrowed.
’Why did Jian Ci even care if I slept with Yu Xi? It wasn’t his business... was it?’
Jian Ci wasn’t done. He wanted to know if Yu Xi’s other guides, those fleeting boyfriends who lasted no more than two weeks, got the same treatment as Caelus. Thus one by one, he hunted them down.
The ones who tried to escape after seeing Jian Ci’s fierce face regretted it instantly. Running only made it worse. Jian Ci’s aura was merciless, dragging them back like prey caught in a net. His interrogation was cold, precise, leaving no room for lies.
One brave soul, trembling after Jian Ci’s visit, messaged Yu Xi directly.
Yu Xi received the message while sitting with Eros. He had been ignoring his grandfather ever since the incident with Jian Ci, the silence between them heavy and suffocating. It had taken Xiaobao’s gentle insistence to convince Yu Xi to let it go, to at least hear Eros out.
Eros sat stiffly, his expression shadowed. He hated being ignored. It cut deeper than Yu Xi realized. The last time he had been ignored by someone important, it had been his daughter. She was taken from him before he could apologize, before he could make things right. That wound had never healed.
So when Yu Xi entered, Eros didn’t hesitate. He spoke quickly, his voice raw. "I was wrong. I shouldn’t have interfered."
Yu Xi blinked, startled. He had expected resistance or a fight given his grandfather’s stubborn pride. But instead, Eros had yielded immediately.
Yu Xi sat down beside him, his tone calm but firm. "I know you want what’s best for me. But this is my life."
Eros nodded, his eyes softening. "You are right. I want you to be happy. And if that bast—" He caught himself, fumbling. "Sorry, sorry. If that prince makes you happy, then from now on I will fully support it."
Yu Xi’s lips curved into a faint smile as he said, "Good."
Eros mumbled under his breath, "If you want me to kidnap him, I can do that too."
Yu Xi’s head snapped up. He had heard it. "No one is kidnapping anyone. I don’t like to force people."
Eros sighed, leaning back with a weary shake of his head. "At this rate you are going to be a bachelor for life. I just want you to know, if you want your grandpa to convince him for you, I will gladly do that."
Yu Xi narrowed his eyes. "You are meddling again."
"No," Eros said quickly, his tone softening. "I am just caring for you. Can’t I even do that as your grandpa?"
Yu Xi was about to retort when his communicator buzzed. It was the message. His brows furrowed as he saw the sender: Randy. One of the few exes he hadn’t blocked. They had dated two years ago, and their breakup had been amicable, so he had never cut him off.
The message read: Hey, um... so this is weird, but Jian Ci came to see me today.
Yu Xi’s chest tightened, confusion flickering across his face. ’Why? Wasn’t Jian Ci supposed to be unreachable?’ he thought.
Eros leaned forward, his eyes sharp. "What? What did that idio— I mean, what did Jian Ci do this time?" He was trying, truly trying, but the insult slipped out anyway.
Yu Xi shook his head. "Nothing. I thought he wasn’t around."
"Maybe he just came back," Eros muttered. "Do you want me to track him down for you?"
Yu Xi stood, his expression unreadable. "No."
Eros nodded reluctantly, though his fingers twitched against the armrest. He was itching to go find Jian Ci himself, drag him over if necessary. It wasn’t his fault, he loved his grandson too much to sit idle.
