Chapter 141: Video of the fight

Jian Rui’s voice followed him, sharp and commanding. "Ah-Ci, give us a moment."

Jian Ci froze, his shoulders stiff. He didn’t want to. He didn’t trust Jian Rui being alone with Yu Xi especially not after what had just happened. "So you can beat him up again? No."

Jian Rui gritted his teeth, his aura simmering. "Do you really believe I would do that?"

Jian Ci retorted back, his glare unwavering. "You did it just now, so what can stop you now?"

The tension thickened until Yu Xi intervened, his voice calm but firm. "Ci, wait for me outside."

Jian Ci hesitated, then sighed. "Fine. Call me if he starts another fight."

As he moved toward the door, Jian Rui asked suddenly, "Have you finished today’s training?"

Jian Ci stopped, his silence heavy. "...How can I finish when you’re out here throwing tantrums?"

Jian Rui was speechless, his thoughts bitter. Who am I doing this for, you idiot?

The door slid shut behind Jian Ci, leaving only Jian Rui and Yu Xi in the medical bay. Jian Rui turned, his voice quieter now. "Are you okay?"

Yu Xi exhaled, his eyes dimming. "Just minor injuries... you."

Jian Rui’s lips pressed into a thin line. He felt sore, but only in places no one could see. Yu Xi had done that deliberately—striking where it wouldn’t show, but where it would remind Jian Rui that he wasn’t untouchable.

Jian Rui sat down heavily beside Yu Xi, his expression taut with regret. "I am sorry," he said quietly, his voice stripped of its usual authority. "I shouldn’t have taken things that far." 𝚏𝕣𝐞𝗲𝐰𝕖𝐛𝐧𝕠𝕧𝚎𝚕.𝐜𝚘𝗺

Yu Xi tilted his head and asked, "Is it because of Jian Ci?"

Jian Rui met his gaze with a serious look, the weight of his concern evident. Yu Xi sighed, his tone calm but piercing. "I know what you’re worried about. You’re afraid that now we know my grandfather is Eros, I’ll force your brother, lock him away in some dark room where no one can reach him."

Jian Rui’s jaw tightened. "Will you?"

Yu Xi smiled faintly, almost amused. "What do you think?"

Jian Rui studied him in silence, searching for cracks in his resolve. Yu Xi finally spoke again, his voice softer. "Of course I won’t. I thought about it, but I know I wouldn’t. What draws me to him isn’t control... it’s his smile, his energy, his happiness. I don’t want him to lose that smile. I’m fine just being by his side... though sometimes I wonder, if I wasn’t who I am, would I have a chance?"

The words struck Jian Rui with sudden clarity. He understood then that the safest person Jian Ci could ever be around was Yu Xi.

Jian Rui exhaled, his tone low, almost resigned. "Is he really worth all this trouble?"

Yu Xi met Jian Rui’s gaze and didn’t speak, but the silence was enough. Jian Rui already knew the answer to the question he had asked earlier, though it didn’t ease the weight in his chest. He scratched the back of his head, his expression conflicted, before finally saying, "Can you promise me something?"

Yu Xi’s voice was calm. "Sure."

"Promise me that you will never take him by force," Jian Rui said firmly. "I know you said you won’t, but I just need you to promise me."

Yu Xi understood immediately why Jian Rui was asking. Jian Ci wasn’t just his younger brother—he was Jian Rui’s responsibility, his burden, his duty. From a young age, Jian Rui had taken on the role of protector, almost like a father, to ease their mother’s worries and to shield Jian Ci from the world’s cruelties. That responsibility had shaped him, hardened him, and now it made him wary of Yu Xi’s intentions.

"I promise I won’t force him," Yu Xi said, his tone steady. "I can even make a blood oath if that makes you feel better."

Jian Rui’s shoulders eased slightly, though his eyes remained sharp. "I would appreciate that," he said quietly, the words carrying both relief and lingering caution.

Meanwhile, Jian Ci was standing outside the medical bay, his arms folded, impatience simmering beneath his calm exterior. As he waited, two people, a young man and a woman, passed by. They were both guides, their voices low but animated as they walked.

The girl giggled softly. "Yu Xi looked so sexy. His shirt was off, and he was breathing so heavy it made my legs weak."

The guy smirked, clearly enjoying the gossip. "I even saved the video for late-night enjoyment."

"Share it with me," the girl said eagerly.

Jian Ci’s brow arched sharply. Video? He hadn’t known anyone had recorded the fight between Jian Rui and Yu Xi. His gaze snapped to the pair, and instantly they fell silent, their faces paling as they realized who was standing there. They saluted quickly, stiff with fear.

Jian Ci gave them a slight nod, letting them think they were free to go. But as they turned away, he suddenly said, "Wait. Can you send the video to me?"

The guy froze, terror flickering in his eyes. He thought Jian Ci must be furious about the fight, and now they were caught gossiping about it. His reluctance was obvious.

Jian Ci softened his tone, his expression unreadable. "I am just curious about what happened. You can send it to me."

The guy swallowed hard. "Yes, your highness." He fumbled with his communicator and sent the file.

Jian Ci accepted it with a nod. "Thanks."

The two ran off immediately after, leaving Jian Ci alone in the corridor. He opened the video on a floating screen, set to private mode, the glow illuminating his face. The fight unfolded before him, more intense than he had imagined.

Yu Xi was clearly at a disadvantage at first, his movements raw and unrefined, but Jian Ci could see the rapid adjustments, the way Yu Xi learned with every strike. Jian Rui, for all his experience, was truly struggling to restrain him.

A new respect stirred in Jian Ci’s chest. If Yu Xi could hold his own against Jian Rui after only a few months of training, then surpassing him was not a distant possibility, it was inevitable. Jian Ci paused the video at a frame where Yu Xi stood, his shirt torn, chest rising and falling with heavy breaths, sweat dripping down his torso.

Jian Ci’s lips curved into a smile. "Quite sexy indeed," he murmured to himself, the words slipping out before he could stop them.

Yu Xi sat in the quiet classroom, the floating screen before him glowing with maps and data. His eyes scanned every detail—the terrain, the hidden paths, the beasts catalogued for the exam area.

This was the last exam of the semester, and unlike written tests, it was a mission simulation. Each team member had a designated focus, but as team leader, Yu Xi had to know everything. If anyone faltered, he would be the one to cover for them.
