Noble Pampering: Demon CEO's Relentless Entanglement-Chapter 820 - 816: How Desperate He Must Have Been
Why?
Why wasn’t it me who was by his side at that time?
Seeing Sophie Smith’s face full of heartache, despair, and self-reproach, Irene Morton suddenly felt a sense of vengeful joy, a sensation so intense that it was truly satisfying.
"Sister Sophie, do you want to continue listening?"
Irene didn’t get a response from Sophie, but that didn’t stop her from speaking her mind.
"Brother Asher calls your name every night, but..." She paused, casting a sidelong glance at Sophie, "But I’m the one who is by his side every night."
Yes, at that time, he must have felt so hopeless.
Sophie felt as if her consciousness was spiraling out of control, as if as soon as she closed her eyes, haunting images of him would fill her mind.
"Alright, I originally didn’t want to tell you these things because Brother Asher forbade it, but you insisted on hearing, so I told you everything without reservation. Now, can you leave? You’ve seen Brother Asher’s condition, haven’t you? He won’t be in any danger for the time being."
"Can I stay here to take care of him?" she pleaded humbly with Irene.
"Take care? Can you really take care of him?" Irene mocked with a cold laugh, "Last night, you didn’t even know the symptoms when he was about to have a fit. How can I trust you to be by Brother Asher’s side? Besides, I’ve been taking care of him for four years. Brother Asher should be used to it by now."
Irene deliberately emphasized some words for Sophie to hear. Perhaps she couldn’t make Asher Land give up on Sophie, but what if Sophie chose to retreat?
"Miss Smith, I’ll take you back." Robert Williams suddenly stepped forward from the side, "Miss Irene indeed takes better care of President Land than you do."
When Robert said this, it was without any bias; he was simply loyal to his master and would only do what’s best for Asher Land.
Sophie repressed the disappointment in her eyes, lifted her head, and forced a difficult smile.
"Robert, if Asher Land wakes up, could you please give me a call?"
Robert nodded. 𝐟𝕣𝕖𝐞𝐰𝕖𝚋𝐧𝗼𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝗰𝐨𝐦
Under Irene’s watchful gaze, Sophie stepped out of the hospital room. Before leaving, she turned back for a final look at the man on the hospital bed, her eyes stinging with emotion.
Asher Land, you surely don’t know how much pain I’ve endured in the four years I’ve been absent during your darkest times.
...
All day, Sophie shut herself in a room where no sunlight could enter.
Eva Miller called ten times in a row, but Sophie didn’t answer. Eventually, Sophie set her phone to silent and tossed it onto the table.
She sat on the chilly floor, buried her head in her knees, and called Asher Land’s name over and over again.
Who knows how much time passed; maybe it was just a brief moment after hanging up, when the door was knocked.
It must be Eva.
After staying curled up for quite some time, her body was numb when she stood up, almost causing her to fall.
She dragged her heavy steps towards the door and opened it without much thought.
But standing at the door wasn’t the person she firmly expected, Eva; it was someone else.
Nolan Davis’s chest was heaving heavily, his forehead covered with a thin layer of sweat.
"I heard from Miss Miller that you weren’t answering her calls. She thought something happened to you and was very worried, but she’s currently tied up with the crew and can’t leave, so she asked me to come check on you."
Nolan’s voice was still a bit unsteady, indicating that he must have rushed over in quite a hurry.
