Noble Pampering: Demon CEO's Relentless Entanglement-Chapter 819 - 815: His Pain Is Beyond Her Understanding
Sophie Smith eventually pushed open the door to the hospital room.
The smell of the hospital seemed all too familiar to her.
Her eyes turned to the man lying on the bed...
She finally understood why Irene Morton had said, if she saw what Asher Land looked like, could she handle it?
The Asher Land before her was no longer the proud, spirited man he once was in front of her.
He wore a hospital gown with light blue stripes on a white background. Under the loose gown, his body appeared somewhat emaciated, his complexion pale, his lips chapped. Overnight, he truly looked much more haggard.
A needle was inserted into the back of his hand, as medicine flowed into his body through the tube.
"Sister Sophie, what you’re seeing now is Brother Asher already looking ’pretty good’. If it were four years ago..."
Irene often, intentionally or unintentionally, brought up four years ago. She knew during those four years, Asher Land must have had no choice but not come to find her. He must have gone through tremendous inhumane torture, only no one was willing to tell her about it.
"Irene, if possible, I hope you can tell me what Asher Land went through during those four years, okay?" Sophie Smith’s gaze was imploring. She could never truly feel his pain.
In his darkest days, the sad thing was, she was not there by his side.
Tell Sophie Smith about Asher Land’s experiences from those four years?
Irene chuckled softly, "Sister Sophie, are you sure you want to hear it?"
Sophie Smith nodded.
Irene sneered, fine, if she wanted to hear it, then she’d tell her. 𝙧𝙚𝙚𝔀𝒆𝓫𝓷𝙤𝓿𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝙤𝓶
"That car accident left Brother Asher with injuries more severe than we could imagine. Within a year of the accident, he showed no signs of waking up at all. He became a vegetable, lying in bed for an entire year..."
A vegetable?
Sophie Smith took an unsteady step back, her gaze incredulously turning to the man quietly lying on the bed...
Her lips moved, but no words came out.
She couldn’t imagine him living such days, living without awareness, like a puppet.
She shook her head vigorously, murmuring something no one could hear clearly.
"Ha, can’t handle it already?" Irene’s sarcastic smile grew deeper, "Seems like there’s no need for me to continue, lest I scare you, Sister Sophie."
"Continue," the simple two words strained out of her mouth. She didn’t know if she was just seeking pain, knowing that hearing about Asher Land’s experiences would fill her heart with unbearable pain and helplessness, yet she still wanted to hear it.
"Alright." Irene took a deep breath and then exhaled.
"Later, he woke up, but the post-accident complications were too severe. Even after waking up, for a time, he didn’t even have the ability to stand. Every minute, every second, he could only spend in a wheelchair..." Recalling those days, the arrogance and defiance that Irene usually displayed in front of Sophie Smith dissipated, and her eyes turned red and moist.
"During that time, not only was his health bad, but his temper was also bad. The most heartbreaking event was when he thought about ending his life, using a knife to cut his own wrist..."
"Also, within a year, he underwent seven or eight surgeries, and the number of times he visited the emergency room was even more..."
Every word Irene spoke was like a sharp little knife, cutting into the softest part of her heart.
