Chapter 623: Chapter 619: One Month’s Promise (Part 6)

He knew that Sophie was still there waiting for him to take her away, and he absolutely could not fail her trust and expectations.

His head was dizzy, feeling like countless images were overlapping in his mind, and he couldn’t clearly grasp any of them.

He still had a sliver of consciousness left, and he tried hard to open his eyes, but it was so difficult.

"Sophie..." he muttered her name in a daze.

Warmth came from his fingertips, and he instinctively held on.

Irene frowned slightly. Seeing him like this, she felt both heartache and anger.

He’s in this state, and he’s still thinking of his Sophie?

"Sophie..." When he called Sophie’s name for the second time, she tried hard to pull her hand out of his grasp, but his strength was so great that the harder she struggled, the tighter he held.

"Brother Asher, you mustn’t know how much I want to hear my name from your mouth now..." Irene sniffed, and when he finally relaxed a bit, she pulled her hand away.

She sat quietly by the bed, and when he called out that he was hot, she would get an ice pack to put on his forehead. When he said he was thirsty, she would get water and feed it to him sip by sip. For a whole day, she stayed by his bed, never leaving his side.

When Luke walked in, Irene was holding Asher Land’s hand and had fallen asleep lying on the bed.

"Hey, Irene..." he gently patted her shoulder. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝚠𝕖𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝕖𝚕.𝚌𝗼𝗺

"Hmm?..." Irene sat up straight, blinking her bleary eyes, still with a hint of tiredness in her voice, "What’s the matter?"

"You’re tired, right? You should go rest. I’ll take care of things here."

"No." Irene pouted, mustering up her energy, "I’m Brother Asher’s fiancée. It’s only right for me to take care of him."

Seeing Irene like this, Luke couldn’t say what he felt in his heart.

Though sometimes this girl was a bit willful, a bit spoiled, and acted without considering the consequences, she truly cared for Asher Land. She really loved him, which is why she always placed herself in the position of his fiancée, even though Asher Land was unwilling to acknowledge this reality, but her passion was undeterred.

"I see you’re really not in good spirits. How can you take care of our seriously ill brother like this? Don’t let his condition worsen because of you."

With that, Luke pulled Irene up, trying to insist she go rest.

"I don’t want to, I don’t want to. I just want to stay with Brother Asher..." Irene struggled, "I’m really full of energy now."

Irene deliberately widened her eyes, "I don’t want to sleep at all."

Luke couldn’t do anything with her, couldn’t force her out, but seeing Asher Land’s condition looking so bad, he had no choice but to stay with her to guard the hospital room.

He felt his forehead, it was frighteningly hot.

"Why hasn’t the fever gone down after a whole day of IV drip?"

His dry lips moved, but Luke couldn’t make out what he was saying.

He leaned close to his lips, listened for a long time, and finally understood that he was saying only two simple words.

Sophie.

"You’re so sick, does calling her name help?" Luke sighed, his eyes turning, "Do you think if I bring her over here, you’ll get better a little faster?"

"No!" Irene stormed over to Luke, furious, "Don’t bring her here!"
