Chapter 99: Chapter 97 Insignificant [1 more]
"I heard from your eldest sister that Grandpa is officially announcing tomorrow that you are the Spencer Family’s Fifth Miss. Congratulations."
"Haha! Yes! Fifth Miss! Fifth Miss!" Maya Spencer muttered the words "Fifth Miss" to herself, feeling helplessly amused.
"Let’s go inside! The auction is about to start."
As Lillian Morris spoke, she turned and walked towards the banquet hall, fully aware of the eyes watching them nearby. Keeping a certain distance from Maya was the most sensible choice.
Maya wasn’t very interested in the auction, but out of courtesy, she headed towards the banquet hall.
As soon as the two returned to the banquet hall, they saw Liam Spencer and his female companion not far from the entrance. Upon seeing Liam, Maya remembered that she had intended to change her clothes earlier.
In the banquet hall, Liam watched her and Lillian return from the deck, his face suddenly turning sour, his sharp eyes fixing intently on Maya.
Maya, noticing the man’s gaze, couldn’t help but swallow nervously. Every time Liam looked at her like that, nothing good followed.
"Liam, ready to make a splash tonight?" Lillian asked, patting his shoulder while observing the man’s gaze.
"Brother-in-law is joking. I never enjoyed doing charity; I’m just here for the fun," Liam replied to Lillian, his gaze still lingering on Maya.
This was the first time he called Lillian brother-in-law. His simple words carried multiple meanings, both for Lillian and Maya.
Calling Lillian brother-in-law was a reminder that Lillian was his elder sister’s boyfriend, and a warning to Maya that this man was already spoken for. The remark about disliking charity was clearly a threat to Maya, cautioning her to behave and not try to charm anyone.
Maya wasn’t foolish; she understood the implied meaning in Liam’s words. He was protecting his own sister, afraid that Maya might steal her sister’s man. To Maya, these worries were unnecessary.
To pacify Liam’s anger, she forced a cheerful smile and flattered him, "Brother Liam, you’re such a jokester. When it comes to donations, who else but you has given so much over the years!"
Liam listened to the girl’s flattery without any intention of letting her off the hook, continuing to glare at her angrily as if she had done something improper with Lillian on the deck earlier.
"Liam, Maya, you two chat. I’m going to find Jane Spencer," Lillian realized that if he didn’t step away now, things might really get misunderstood.
After Lillian left, the girl clinging to his arm pouted and complained angrily, "Brother Liam, we’re wearing the same outfit! Even the shoes match."
Maya watched the girl coquettishly play up to someone and inhaled deeply, thinking, "I hope I don’t get dragged into this too. It’s just too unfair."
Thus, she hurriedly explained, "I’ll go change right away! I’ll change right away!"
With Liam, Maya would avoid when she could, endure when necessary, and his female companion naturally received the same treatment.
The girl beamed upon seeing Maya’s agreeable attitude, her face blissfully nestled in Liam’s arm.
Maya observed the girl’s smile with disdain, and perhaps more disdain towards Liam, thinking, "This bastard has a girlfriend who’s decent-looking, yet he can’t leave his own sister alone. Isn’t he afraid of karma?"
Learning that Liam had a girlfriend didn’t stir any emotions in her. Her hope was that the girl could tie him down, so he wouldn’t keep pestering her. That would be the best outcome, freeing her from having to deal with him anymore.
Liam watched her cautiously, saw her turn to change clothes, took a deep breath, and said, "No need to change, you look beautiful in red."
Maya was stunned by his words, thinking, "Should I change or not? What if he gets upset if I change?"
So, she turned around with a forced smile and asked, "Should I change or not?"
Liam said, "Don’t change!"
The girl said, "Change!"
Now Maya was in a bind, frozen in place, staring directly at Liam, waiting for his final decision; after all, the companion’s wishes should be honored! free𝑤ebnovel.com
However, Liam remained silent, completely ignoring her.
Seeing this, Maya awkwardly smiled and said, "I’ll just go change then!" With that, she turned and left.
As she walked away, she heard the girl ask Liam, "Brother Liam, who is she?"
He said, "Just someone insignificant."
Hearing Liam’s reply, Maya laughed helplessly. Yeah! She was just someone insignificant. When he wanted her, he’d call her Maya affectionately, but in front of other women, she was nothing. But that was fine by her, less trouble.
Earlier, she worried about running into Liam, fearing what he might do to her again, but clearly, she had overthought it. This sense of relief felt incredible.
Just when Maya thought she was relieved, reality took a turn against her wishes. On her way back to her room, before she even reached the door, she was suddenly ambushed.
She had no idea when the man behind her caught up, grabbing her wrist and pinning her against the wall, biting her ear hard, causing her immense pain.
The man’s scent and actions were all too familiar to Maya. It was none other than the person who had just said she was insignificant.
Swallowing nervously, Maya cautiously said, "Brother Liam, it’s not good if someone sees us."
Ignoring her excuse, the man wrapped his left arm around her waist, his right arm holding her shoulder, burying his face in her neck, branding a deep red mark, and said,
"I said, you look very pretty in red."
Maya was wearing a knee-length red cocktail dress today, paired with black pumps, her braids tied from the top of her head to the ends, looking stunning and irresistibly seductive, outshining the girl who matched her attire in every way.
"Mm! Then I won’t change." Since Liam said she looked pretty, how could she dare change? Of course, she had to comply.
"Maya, what were you doing with Lillian on the deck earlier?" The man questioned while kissing her tender cheek.
Maya’s complexion was unadorned, only wearing some eyebrow pencil and lipstick. The sensation of his kisses, as always, was wonderful.
"Brother Liam, please, don’t do this. It’s really not good if someone sees us, and Grandpa is announcing tomorrow that I’m the Spencer Family’s Fifth Miss." Maya twisted her petite body, trying her best to persuade him.
"So what! Are you worried we’ll be seen, and Grandpa will suppress it? Won’t announce your identity?" the man said, gripping her chin, turning her face towards his, and deeply kissed her.
Today, Maya looked so beautiful he couldn’t take his eyes off her. She made his heart itch terribly, prompting him to find every opportunity to see her, to savor her. In fact, every time he saw her, it was always like this!
