New World, New Life: I Became A Bigshot In The Ancient World-Chapter 182: ADORABLE, BUT NOT TO BE UNDERESTIMATED
Chapter 182: ADORABLE, BUT NOT TO BE UNDERESTIMATED
After Aristia’s classes that day, she headed out with Owen.
The carriage rode through the streets of the capital at a steady pace and after some time, it stopped at a particular familiar street.
Aristia and Owen alighted the carriage, coming to stand in front of a gate leading to a large compound. There hadn’t been a gate three months ago.
They looked through a thin gap in the newly built gate, at the large compound.
A large building that was almost as wide as a large mansion stood in the middle of the compound beside a significantly small building. The large building was still under construction, though it was more like the finishing touches were being completed.
Its outer walls were painted brown. It had multiple windows and balconys.
The small building beside it belonged to Dahlia and Dorothy and the building itself was the one that would be known as the first orphanage in Amberale.
Workers moved back and forth in and out of the building. Aristia could even see some of the little children Dahlia and Dorothy cared for peeping curiously at the workers and the building, filled with excitement and happiness.
They had been told that a wealthy person had decided to give them a better home and would assist in providing for them.
"Let’s go in, Owen." Aristia turned to Owen, who nodded.
He pushed open the gate and waited for Aristia to enter before he followed after her.
They walked toward the small house that was the sisters’ residence. They still lived there with the children as the new building was still being worked on.
As she and Owen passed by some children, she could still hear them talking excitedly about how they would soon live in such a magnificent building, saying how they had only ever seen wealthy people live in such houses.
"It’s very beautiful."
"And big!" A little boy said happily, stretching the word big to show just how big it was.
"Yes, look how big the building is. The rooms are definitely going to be very big."
"It’s going to be more comfortable than the rooms here."
"Then my brother wouldn’t have to sleep in the dining."
"I can’t believe we’ll live there now, and the space has become wider, no, very wide. There’s more space to play now." Another child used her hands to gesture around them.
Aristia had bought the surrounding land and surrounded it with a fence.
Aristia entered the building. By now, the children at the sisters’ home had gotten used to seeing her face, or her disguise as ’Miss Aris’.
They nodded and smiled and some even waved. Aristia returned the gesture and moved towards the sisters’ room.
Dahlia was the one at home, this time of evening. The sisters took shifts so if one worked one day, the other worked the next. Sometimes when the situation required, they would take hourly shifts.
Knock.
Knock.
Knock.
With a glance at Aristia, Owen knocked on the door to Dahlia’s room.
"Come in." Dahlia’s voice sounded a bit muffled from inside the room.
Aristia opened the door and entered.
Dahlia was standing with her back turned to them, and from the clothes peeking out from behind her arms, see was folding laundry.
She turned around a second later to see the person who knocked and gasped in surprise.
"Miss Aris, Master Owen." Dahlia was a bit surprised, but soon smiled. She bowed in greeting before raising her head to look at her visitor. "Please, have a seat."
Owen closed the door behind him.
"How do you do, Dahlia?" Aristia asked as she took a seat on one of the chairs in the room.
Her childish voice was clear and milky, tugging at the heartstrings.
Dahlia almost melted. ’The third princess is so adorable.’
She didn’t speak her thoughts though.
"I have been doing very well, thanks to you." Dahlia replied seriously. She pulled a seat in front of Aristia and sat down.
She couldn’t think of how she would have turned out if Aristia hadn’t met her and made an offer for her to work for her.
She couldn’t help but say again, "Thank you, Miss Aris. You have really helped us numerous times and I am sincerely grateful."
She didn’t mention what she was thanking Aristia for. She couldn’t say it openly because the room wasn’t soundproof. But Aristia and Owen understood.
The information that Aristia was the one behind the restaurant and now the construction of the orphanage was supposed to be kept a secret.
It would be easy for someone to overhear the discussion so Dahlia withheld from speaking directly.
Aristia smiled, "I know. You don’t have to thank me. If you hadn’t been so skilled, there wouldn’t have been a chance."
She was just being blunt. If not for the fact that the sisters’ good cooking caught her interest, she wouldn’t have asked them to work for her in the first place. They were also good managers and fit the job well.
Aristia had chosen them based on the fact that they had been taking care of children and managing their household for years, just the two of them even though they hadn’t had any experience.
It wouldn’t be difficult to manage a few workers.
Dahlia didn’t say anything when she heard this. But the gratitude and respect in her eyes did not dwindle for even a bit.
She was aware of Aristia’s age as all in Amberale knew how old the royal children were. That was why she was amazed each time Aristia spoke and acted.
Thinking of that...
’Yes, the princess is adorable. But she shouldn’t be underestimated.
Suddenly, she thought about the rumours about Aristia and her brows furrowed. But they soon releaxed.
No. The princess’s reputation was no longer the same as before.
’She’s really such a sweet child. She didn’t deserve that.’ Dahlia was convinced all the old rumours about Aristia was false, likely spread by aristocrats who didn’t like the princess.
’Really. How can anyone not like her?’ Dahlia’s brows furrowed again. She really couldn’t understand this at all. Unless they were vicious.
Thinking that, Dahlia felt that could only be the case.
"Ahem." Aristia cleared her throat, successfully gaining Dahlia’s attention.
[What’s she thinking about with such an expression?]
"Now that the building is almost ready, you will soon move. You know that the number of children will only increase from now on. Do you think you and Dahlia will be able to take care of all the children?"
Dahlia pondered that question. The new building was far larger and better than her small cottage. That also meant they could take in more children who had no homes.
It would inevitably become difficult for only her and Dorothy to take care of the children alone.
But deep down, Dahlia was very excited. Thinking of them being able to take care of even more children without most of the limitations they faced now filled her with happiness.
After watching Dahlia think seriously for some time in silence, Aristia continued,
"You’ll have to employ someone in the orphanage to help you and Dorothy so that it doesn’t become too much for you. You have already divided the time you spend working in The Vanilla Courtyard."
She was referring to the shifts worked by Dahlia and Dorothy.
Dahlia nodded slowly, but Aristia wasn’t done yet.
"You need to be very careful when choosing people. Make sure they are not the kind to maltreat the children or take away any provision given to the children for their own selfish gain."
Her adorable face and her small, pink lips pressed into a frown was absolutely adorable but Dahlia still felt the weight of her words bearing down on her.
She knew that she would need to be careful when choosing someone to work with them.
She would feel very bad if the person they employed ended up maltreating and exploiting the children.
"I will make sure nothing of that sort happens." Her eyes were filled with resolve and determination. There was even a hint of anger.
Just thinking of someone mistreating the children made her feel angry!
After some time, Aristia stood up. "I came today to see the building, and I will be returning home now."
Aristia stood up. "I came today to see the building, and I will be returning home now."
"Ah, yes." Dahlia responded. Her gaze shifted to Owen who stood quietly beside Aristia. It wasn’t easy to ignore his presence even though he didn’t speak much.
She hadn’t seen him speak more than a handful of sentences before.
She returned her gaze to Aristia. "Goodbye, Miss Aris, Master Owen. Let me see you off."
As she said this, she had already stood up, ready to escort Aristia.
"I appreciate that, but there is no need. I and Owen will be heading out." Aristia politely declined the offer.
She had just stepped out of the door when she heard a cheerful voice.
