Chapter 235 (2): My Sword Can be Fierce, Too

“New Death Knight, are you interested in working with me?” Mattea’s thoughts slowly said. “You’re not the Goddess of Death’s chosen knight, but someone who’s temporarily gained the power. Work with me, and you’ll gain power greater than that of a chosen knight.”

Power greater than a chosen knight’s? What is it? The power of dragons?

Wayne remembered how Silvia beat Auston up and how Veronica mounted him whenever she wanted to. Indeed, Dragonbloods were on top of a goddess’s chosen knight.

When the Death Knight showed no interest, Mattea continued, “The Windsor royal family has divine blood and the ability to activate divine blood. That power, however, can be taken. If you work with me, you’ll gain it.”

“Stop beating around the bush and tell me what the power is,” Wayne said, intrigued.

He had always found the royal family too weak. While they seemed to have many tricks up their sleeves, they were of little use. The royal family had been relying on faith to suppress other faiths, creating a check and balance to suppress the Church of Heavenly Father.

Based on what Mattea just said, though, the royal family seemed to have a trump card that allowed them to gain the upper hand.

He wondered what it was.

“The power is in Londan, and every night, it emerges...” Mattea trailed off. The rest of the story was paid content. The Death Knight had to work with her to find out more.

“What do you want?” Wayne continued to inject Death energy.

“Let Juliette go. She will spread my faith in the human world.”

“Haha, although I don’t have a brain, I can still think. If your goal were to spread faith, Juliette would’ve just done that. She wouldn’t have to waste her time on the Prince...” Wayne made a tentative guess. “It’s the divine blood, isn’t it? You want that power, too.”

“It’s only part of it. You may take the divine blood if you become our ally.”

“Apologies, demons can’t be trusted.”

Wayne injected more Death energy. As Juliette screamed in agony, the scorching world and her body cracked at the same time. He looked down at the inverted pentagram and suspected that every familiar had a similar space like this in their body.

He gained a useful tip!

Mattea whispered a few words. When the Death Knight seemed resistant to both coercion and persuasion, she dissolved her form and turned into a ray of purple light, shooting into Wayne’s body.

The delivery woman had left the food in the elevator.

As soon as the figurative elevator opened, the Book of Greed swallowed the food along with the packaging. Someone else’s curse was nothing but take-out to Wayne. He had lost count of the number of delivery persons who had generously offered him food.

Again, he found the demons nice to befriend. While they seemed cunning, deceitful, and stingy, they were actually generous and willing to share.

“Oh?!”

The portion of today’s delivery was big. After filtering out the impurities, the Book of Greed sorted the food into different categories and sent some to the small eyeball for hell, leaving the rest melting into the cover—Wayne’s body.

Since no one was there to call out the names of the dishes, Wayne didn’t know what he had absorbed, only that he had gotten stronger.

It wasn’t his life essence that was strengthened, but his physical strength. He... had had the same experience before. Marius the familiar had delivered the same meal to him.

The Book of Greed didn’t talk and wasn’t going to explain to Wayne. He gave up on looking for an answer after a moment of pondering. Holding Shadow Nightmare, he continued to push down.

Clack!

Juliette’s pale body shattered into pieces of stone. Wayne dusted himself before looking up at the legendary mage standing beside the gate of heaven, Celeste.

“Kekekeke—do you also want to test my sword?”

My sword can be fierce, too! Celeste would like to say that to the arrogant Death Knight. However, he was loyal to the Queen, and the Death Knight was working with her. A conflict within an alliance should be resolved with a smile.

As soon as Celeste dissolved his vitality field with a wave, moonlight poured down. They had returned to the castle.

The guests had long left after the show—a false memory planted in their minds. Wayne summoned Julia by swinging his sword. Sheathing the blade, he hopped onto the undead horse and opened a portal.

“Wait, Death Knight—” Juno suddenly said, but got a deathly glare. She shut her mouth, watching the knight leave with regret.

“Juno, the celebration is over,” Mona said. “Are you staying?”

She noticed the strange looks the Prince was giving her, like he wanted her but didn’t dare to covet her. She had looked at her angel master the same way. She suddenly realized why Wayne always seemed resigned when she threw herself at him. It turned out that she had scared him.

The next time... no, she would change her way tonight!

Mona had received a telepathic message and didn’t want to waste her time further. Juno shook her head with a smile. Ignoring Edward’s furious gaze, she gave Mona a ride out of the castle.

On the way, Juno continued to put in a good word for the Princess, but all her sales pitch fell on a deaf ear.

The car pulled over at Mona’s residence. Juno hurriedly took her leave, clearly off to find the Princess. Meanwhile, Mona walked in and saw Wayne making black tea. She went up to him and stood on her toes to kiss him on the face.

Wayne was flabbergasted. Didn’t she usually get down on her knees? Why was she suddenly acting unlike herself?

Mona blushed, batting her eyelashes shyly. “The third familiar is dead, too. This is a secretary’s reward to her boss.”

What, are you trying to seduce me? There’s nothing wrong with it, but you’ve raised the bar so high that a little kiss isn’t going to do much for me!

Wayne patted her on the bottom. “Come on in. Let me tell you what a real reward entails.”

***

Half an hour later, Juno drove into a luxurious manor and pulled over, striding into the mansion. The reception room was retrofitted into a study with a chandelier illuminating the whole room. Two maids were standing by the door, while Princess Elizabeth sat quietly on the sofa with a cup of black tea.

Celeste was also there, taking appreciative sips of his tea. When Juno walked in, he rose to his feet and asked, “Your Highness, have you met the target?”

“No, Edward being involved deterred the target. He doesn’t want to get involved in the royal family’s feud. Not even the demon managed to draw him out of hiding.”

Juno sat on the sofa’s armrest while ‘Elizabeth’ passed her the black tea. Her movement was stiff like the two maids at the door, and her expression was limited.

“Master, is Wayne really an angel?” Juno took a sip of the tea and left the cup on the table. “Compared to him, his secretary, Mona, seems more like an angel.”

“That’s why he is, or the angel would have been found earlier,” Celeste said with confidence. “I met up with the investigator of the Papal State and spent a fortune for the information. Multiple demons have descended in Londan, yet rather than going after them, the Papal State has been targeting the royal family. It has to mean that the Papal State has long planted power great enough to eliminate demons in Londan.”

“The Papal State has been quiet lately, looking for something in secret...”

“You saw the white wings on Mona’s back. She’s a Silver-ranked mage who shouldn’t be able to endure the power of the Golden Law. Moreover, she shows absolute obedience to Wayne. It’s a logical conclusion that Wayne’s an angel.”

“It’s all speculation!” Juno shook her head. “He may or may not be. It’s a shame that we didn’t get to see him unleash his full power. We’ve wasted a good chance to confront Edward.”

Celeste reassured her, “Your plan is solid, but Her Majesty has greater foresight. Neither of us expected her to work with the Death Knight.”

They both fell silent after that. Yes, who would’ve expected the Death Knight to make a sudden appearance and throw a wrench into the plan? They had reason to believe that Wayne, their target, was in the castle or near the castle, ready to make a move. But the Death Knight came out of nowhere and wiped out the demon.

Their plan almost succeeded. What a shame!

“Death Knight...” Juno sighed. Mother had recruited even the Death Knight. This wasn’t yet her time. She had to wait for her turn, but how long did she have to wait? Ten years, or twenty years?

How troublesome.

“Your Highness, are we going to continue our preparation against Sir Wayne?”

“No. We don’t want to antagonize him. I’ll keep befriending Mona as Juno. She’s pretty and has a nice personality...”

“Your Highness!” Celeste snapped before softening his voice. “Please control yourself, or you’ll only be offending your future ally.”

“I wasn’t going to do anything...” Juno mumbled. With a slight move of her finger, ‘Elizabeth’ picked up the cup of black tea and served her. 𝐟𝚛𝕖𝚎𝕨𝗲𝐛𝚗𝐨𝐯𝐞𝕝.𝐜𝗼𝗺

“Oh, if Wayne is an angel, was it Mother’s idea to make him the Lando heir?”

“I asked. Her Majesty likely doesn’t know about it. Moreover, she doesn’t fully trust the Tulip Families.”

“Auston Lando is different. He was Mother’s first love.” Juno huffed, suspecting that the two hadn’t truly cut ties and had been maintaining an on-and-off relationship.

In fact, Father’s disappearance might have been Mother’s doing to make room for her lover.
