Back to the Past to Become a Fishing King-Chapter 589 - 337: The Prime Spot!! (2)
After listening to Zhang Yang’s simple analysis and summary, everyone else nodded and looked relaxed, except Xiaobao, who still wore a stern face without a hint of a smile.
"Xiaobao, did you mess up this round again?" Liu Zi tugged at the hem of Xiaobao’s shirt and quietly asked.
"Yeah! The line I used was too thick, and it didn’t get any bites. After switching to a thinner line, the hooks kept breaking! This round of fishing was a mess because of me!" Xiaobao muttered quietly with pursed lips.
Hearing this, Zhang Yang nodded. "Now you realize the technical gap between you and professional anglers, right?
It’s okay, you’re just starting to learn. Making mistakes is not scary. As long as we summarize the lessons well, we can solve them one by one moving forward!
Remember the feeling of helplessness you have now on the field; this will become your motivation for rigorous training later!" Zhang Yang encouraged sincerely.
"Yeah! Once I get back, I’ll definitely practice hard!" Encouraged on the spot, Xiaobao’s mood adjusted, and he was no longer as gloomy and depressed as before.
With the team members’ moods adjusted, the lottery for the next round of the competition began again.
The loudspeaker sounded the prompt for the lottery, and Zhang Yang, like everyone else, took out his phone.
The previous round was slow mixed breeding, and the next round was also slow mixed breeding. The pond number was fixed, but the seating position was still uncertain.
The mixed breeding pond Zhang Yang fished in last round generally had a good catch, with anglers from other groups catching forty or fifty pounds of fish.
Although it was supposed to be a slow mixed breeding, it turned out to be more exciting than other mixed breeding ponds, making Zhang Yang even more eager for the result of the fourth lottery!
If I draw a poor position, with the combination of the heavy lead and motorcycle casting tricks, I can still manage a perfect score with over forty pounds. If I draw a good position, Zhang Yang is confident he can secure a point.
He lightly tapped his finger on the lottery option.
Swipe! Numerous seat numbers began to roll rapidly and finally settled on a number.
Pond 4, D20
"Damn!" Zhang Yang saw the number and instinctively swore, his pupils instantly enlarging.
D District No. 20.
Southeast corner of Pond No. 4, position 20 on the edge!
After so many matches, Zhang Yang finally drew an edge position at an official major competition!
As mentioned several times before, the geographical advantage of edge positions is very evident because they are close to the shore, naturally becoming fish pathways. Pure native fish rely a bit less on them, but these old, crafty fish rely heavily on the edge environment, making the edge position’s fishing advantage particularly noticeable.
Even in poor positions, Zhang Yang could turn the tide with his deep understanding of the fishing conditions, let alone drawing an edge position.
In an instant, Zhang Yang’s mood brightened. The fourth round of the competition seemed like a gift. He hadn’t even entered the field yet, but a point was practically secure in his hands.
"Really on the edge?"
"Yes, boss. I don’t think you’ve ever drawn an edge position before!"
"Which edge? If it’s the East edge, the last round there was great fish potential!"
His teammates bombarded him with questions, with Wang Yan even forgetting to draw his own slip, raising his head to check on Zhang Yang’s position.
"D District, position 20, southeast corner! This should be safe!" Zhang Yang said gleefully.
"That’s a good spot! Go for it, captain!"
"Let’s do this! If the fish are abundant, just use the Flying Copy and Flying Kicking moves to catch them all!" Wang Yan said excitedly.
"What about you guys? Where did you draw? Any edge or middle positions with an aerator?" Zhang Yang continued asking.
"No such luck! I’m in a regular position."
"Same here!"
"I’m in a regular position too!"
"I drew position 11, right next to the aerator, so it should be decent!" Meng Fan said, casually showing his draw number.
"An aerator spot is good too! Do your best and aim to score again!"
"Yeah, yeah!"
...
A few minutes later, the draw concluded, and the fourth round of the competition commenced.
When the gate opened, Zhang Yang, carrying his tackle box and rod bag along with various fishing gear, swaggered into the venue.
Entering from the west side, he leisurely walked dozens of meters until he reached the southeastern corner.
Zhang Yang glanced at the fishing spot number, confirming it was correct. He then put down his tackle box, fishing rods, and other gear before starting his pre-match preparations.
According to Zhang Yang’s previous tactical analysis, when fishing for slow mixed catch, wet scatter bait was the only relatively reasonable bait to use.
However, knowing he drew an edge position, which had performed exceptionally well in the last round, Zhang Yang adjusted some details when preparing the bait.
He didn’t increase the dose of fish attractants but instead added an extra handful of light bran to the original wet scatter base bait.
What’s the deal with that? For anglers not familiar with bait performance, they might not get it.
Light bran, as a state bait, significantly adjusts the overall state of the bait.
Many people think adding it just lightens the bait, but this is a very narrow perspective.
Good light bran is produced by high-pressure puffing of wheat protein, with many tiny holes in its microscopic structure. Besides being extremely light, it has another notable characteristic.
If the water ratio is right, it disperses very quickly! If the water ratio is slightly more, it’s not easy to compact.
The water ratio for wet scatter bait is generally about 1:0.5-0.6, and in extreme cases, it can be increased to 0.7, adjusting the underwater state through baiting techniques.
Adding light bran enhances the scattering state of the bait when prepared with a normal water ratio.
Basically, adding a little less water can also achieve the same effect. Adding light bran enhances the bait’s texture, perfecting its underwater state. The margin for error is bigger when adjusting its water entry state through baiting techniques, and even if it’s compacted, it doesn’t affect atomization.
The current fishing scenario doesn’t warrant using dry scatter bait; adding a handful of light bran to the wet scatter pays its due respect to the edge environment.
Once the base bait with light bran was ready, Zhang Yang quickly mixed the dry powder evenly, then prepared the bait with the usual 1:0.6 water ratio. With his five fingers spread, he swiftly mixed and soon had a fully prepared bowl of wet scatter bait.
In the last round, Zhang Yang used about two pounds of bait in an hour. In this different fourth round, he prepared four pounds of bait, aiming to use it all within an hour, if the fish conditions allowed!
This is Zhang Yang’s nature. When not given a chance, he’s like a resilient cypress tree growing in rocky crevices, never missing a single opportunity.
Once entering his favored domain and given a chance by fate, Zhang Yang will give his all to make the strongest response.
Expecting favorable fish conditions, Zhang Yang also adjusted his line setup and bobber accordingly.
The original 0.6 sub-line was directly changed to 0.8#, and the rod was upgraded from the No. 3 used in the last round to the current No. 5.
Though not too rigid, the No. 5 rod can handle half-pound carp without the angler standing up, easily maneuvering fish into the keepnet. Using a No. 5 rod is pretty aggressive for today’s fishing scenario.
With all preparations done, the starting shot fired, and the fourth round began!
For the first cast, Zhang Yang packed at least a walnut-sized amount of scatter bait on the double hooks. With a strong spot, naturally, the bait placement must be stronger.
After casting the big scatter bait on the double hooks five times, Zhang Yang then leisurely kneaded the double hooks with soft sticky bait, casting to the angle between the bank and the underwater slope.
Fish are quite primitive in nature; there are only so many spots they like to stay. Zhang Yang knows that in an edge position, the angle area between the bottom and the bank slope is where they usually stay.
Once the position is found, it’s only a matter of time before the fish bite! It didn’t take long for Zhang Yang’s judgment to prove right, as within twenty seconds, the first bait got a bite!
Nibble, nibble, nibble, splash! A powerful dip of one and a half markers.
Zhang Yang lifted the rod to strike the fish and was suddenly taken aback.
Damn, the feel isn’t right, a big one!
