Chapter 189 (1): Process of Succession x Exposed as a Spy

Office.

Wayne held Filomina while sitting on the seat of the High Reverend, whispering sweetly into her ears nonstop with their bodies pressed together. He made use of the many pick-up lines from his world, making her lose any shred of critical thinking.

He was too ahead of his time for her to put up any resistance.

Although Wayne knew this wasn’t a path he should go down, what had happened had happened, and he had no other choice. He was willing to take responsibility for whatever harm he was causing her until she tired of him and woke up from the illusion, no longer wanting him to make amends.

Lying against his shoulder, Filomina was so lost in the sweetness of love that she wanted nothing but for time to stop so that they could snuggle forever. Suddenly, she remembered something important. She whispered to Wayne.

“Oh, you’re going to become a legendary mage?” Wayne looked at her in surprise. She was already difficult to deal with at Gold rank. Once she reached Legendary... No, there was no turning back. He had to keep being a scumbag.

“When I entered the Gate of Truth yesterday, I learned quite a lot.” Filomina looked at Wayne with heated eyes, growing even fonder of him. “I shouldn’t have been able to receive the knowledge, but what you did to me changed my thoughts.”

“What change?”

“I should be the one to ask you that. What exactly did you do to me?”

Filomina brought up the time at the Capital Hotel, when Wayne treated an unconscious Filomina from the corruption of an Astral Beast’s flesh. She hadn’t noticed anything back then, but when she entered the Gate of Truth yesterday, she realized that her thoughts were different.

The same change had happened to her physical body. She couldn’t return herself to the state of mind that night, so she couldn’t describe it clearly. If she had to put it into words... she felt like she was gradually understanding everything!

It was similar to what a Forgotten One losing their mind would experience. Filomina couldn’t come up with an explanation other than her young boyfriend’s evolutionary path. The combination of his original bloodline and the appearance of ancient gods could be the reason why she didn’t lose her sanity.

Her explanation was so vague that Wayne couldn’t say for sure if he did have the ability. He asked about the requirements to become a legendary mage. Filomina explained each of them.

“Whether I can ascend to Legendary rank depends on you...”

“This isn’t the right time. The royal family won’t allow any churches within Windsor to have a legendary mage. I have to set them up first.”

“The Church of Moonlight respects the agreement and won’t transfer a legendary mage to Windsor, but if a Gold-ranked mage did their best to ascend, the Ministry of Magic cannot disapprove of it...”

Filomina explained her plan even though Wayne was a member of the Ministry of Magic. He nodded, praising her intelligence while worrying about himself. This woman wasn’t a gullible one. He had to be mentally prepared for the eventual fallout when he was exposed.

At the same time, he was curious about why he could help Filomina reach Legendary rank, so he readily agreed to help her.

He would like to know what else the Book of Greed was capable of!

Wayne left the library without Kristen. He headed straight to the sewers and summoned Julia to suburban Londan. Julia had been keeping the Book of Seals safe. Its exact location could only be reached through her portal.

Wayne opened the Book of Seals, letting his tentacles capture his elemental friends freely, all the while looking for the other obelisk with his senses.

It stood out.

Without the Ministry of Magic’s seal, the obelisk radiated shimmering light at the bottom of the ocean, highlighting its location. It was northwest of Londan, but he couldn’t see the particular area it was in; he would have to get closer to find out.

Windsor consisted of two major islands, separated by a sea. If the obelisk had coincidentally fallen between the two islands, it wouldn’t be far from Londan, and the Ministry of Magic would be able to fish it out without much time.

He had to find the obelisk and put it in the Book of Seals as soon as he could, or the obelisk would return to the Ministry of Magic once more rather than going to its rightful owner.

Wayne felt a headache when he thought of the legendary mages who didn’t do what they were paid to do. He assured himself that the Ministry of Magic wasn’t too bad. Take the country on the other side of the sea, Franc, as an example, it had a complicated religious landscape, its last king was decapitated at a guillotine, and its magical world was complete chaos. The ministry that was established to protect national interests was divided by the churches.

Outside of Windsor and the Papal State, none of the countries in the Chosen Land were peaceful.

In those environments, Wayne would’ve had a harder time. Forget about looking for the treasure he had lost; he would have to be grateful not to be imprisoned by priestesses and marked with the number of times they had used him.

The grass was greener on this side!

Wayne inhaled his elemental friends for an afternoon, and then at night, he went to the library to pick up Kristen, taking her home. Afterwards, he drove to the High Reverend’s manor to put on night cream for her.

It was quite a sensual process.

Filomina was particularly proactive tonight. Being a diligent and incredibly talented student, she learned much more quickly than Kristen did, even though they were taught by the same teacher.

Wayne wobbled out of the manor. A holy elf? He thought not. She was clearly a bloodsucking fae. He would’ve been wrung dry if he weren’t this young.

On the flip side, while he was young, Filomina was at the age of a cougar. They were evenly matched, so he had to resist his hubris and sense of defeat, or he would lose for certain.

“Damn it, if I hadn’t tried to protect Kristen, Filomina wouldn’t have had this sway on me, and I wouldn’t have let her take advantage of me!”

His hands trembled as he gripped the steering wheel. Remembering how he had endured her weight and become an escort in the sense that the Ministry of Magic intended, he couldn’t stop his lips from curving up from the injustice of it all. He couldn’t stop smiling even if he wanted to.

The High Reverend was a catch!

The car pulled over at Wayne’s residence. Veryl led him to the dining room with a serious look on his face and wordlessly brought a cart over, serving the nutritional food he had put in great effort to prepare.

He’s underestimating me. Wayne looked at the table with exasperation. Veryl was worried for nothing. He was healthy and hearty enough to take on a few more women; he didn’t need any supplements.

But Veryl meant well, and to keep him happy, Wayne had to pretend to like it. He went through three bowls!

After that, he quietly opened the door to Kristen’s bedroom. His eyes lit up when he found no one inside. He went to his bedroom instead.

It was also empty.

Extending his senses, he found Kristen in his study, holding her notes for the class and waiting for her tardy student.

Senior Kristen is so nice!

Wayne entered the room and locked the door behind him, immediately putting his arms around Kristen and kissing her deeply.

“Stop it. Let’s start the class first to make up for the past two days,” Kristen said with authority, catching his hands when it seemed like he was going to get naughty again.

“What’s wrong?” Wayne asked. Why would young people be thinking of studying when they should be focusing on their relationships?

“The High Reverend is taking me in as an apprentice, and she said that it was your idea.” Kristen pouted, obviously unhappy.

“Did she say that?” Wayne quickly figured out Filomina’s intention. With a smile, he brushed Kristen’s platinum blonde hair back. “Yes, it was my idea. You’re a disciple of the Goddess of Moonlight. Only your church will put in genuine effort to protect you. There’s no disadvantage to being her apprentice.”

“But...” Kristen gritted her teeth. “The way she looks at you isn’t right. She... I know what she wants to do to you. You have to have come home this late because she stopped you from leaving.”

She was there before. She knew that Filomina was going to tie Wayne to the chariot of the Church of Moonlight with a honeytrap, willing to pay any price. Her imagination ran wild. Filomina touched Wayne’s hand and grabbed his elbow, keeping him at the hotel for a candlelight dinner...

And that was it.

Kristen didn’t think that she had underestimated the High Reverend; she simply looked down on her. Filomina was too inexperienced and probably hadn’t even put on a short skirt in her life.

“I can sense your jealousy, Kristen!” Wayne could tell what she was thinking. He said seriously, “I know what the High Reverend is plotting. Don’t worry. I won’t let her take advantage of me. As for her plan...”

He pecked Kristen. “It’s already a success. Because of you, I will stand with the Church of Moonlight for certain.”

“Then she...”

“Just let her be. After a while, she will see that her goal is achieved and give up. Think about it. She’s already quite old. She has never had a relationship before, and she isn’t going to start now. People like her think of nothing but magic and faith. They don’t do genuine relationships.”

True! Kristen nodded.

“Just be her student and don’t use me to taunt her. Being prone to jealousy, she may not fall for me, but she can do something unimaginable if she gets competitive.”

He gave her a warning. “I have the Ministry of Magic’s mission to complete, so I can’t say no to her. If you taunt her, I’ll be the one to suffer the consequences, which will be a loss to you.”

Kristen nodded and then shook her head. “She’s just another woman. I won’t get jealous.”

“Really? Let me check.”

He pressed his lips to hers and savored her taste, speaking to a blushing Kristen, “It’s sour. You must have been keeping it all bottled up the entire afternoon.”

Exposed, Kristen huffed and looked elsewhere coldly.

“Come on. It’s the end of the class. Let’s head to my bedroom. I have something nice to show you.”

“Another skirt?”

“No skirt tonight.”
