Mystic Overlord: Reading Gives Strength-Chapter 500 - 497 A Small Goal and an Invitation
Chapter 500: Chapter 497 A Small Goal and an Invitation
Certain events often impact reality in ways that catch us unprepared.
Take Ronald’s personal experience, for instance, the explosion of the chemical plant caused changes he hadn’t anticipated.
Fundamentally, the factory disaster with no mysterious sides involved was later officially announced by the Springs authorities. Aside from the immense losses caused by the disaster itself, most people in the city understood just how dangerous such things could be.
It was almost as if they were following the development of events.
Civil servants serving at Tianhai Palace drafted a preliminary safety manual, with more detailed legal statutes and regulations still in the works. And Ronald, through the internal news of the Ginkgo Leaf Chamber of Commerce, also knew that Greed might soon implement regulations related to child labor management.
The queen, who controlled the entire country, didn’t use the revenge-seeking child labor as a topic in this matter but instead focused on the potential problems industrial production might bring and also let slip the plans to establish a dedicated industrial zone.
Situated near the port district,
Ronald had also heard quite a lot of gossip these past few days.
Some believed that Greed’s new industrial zone would be located around Springs, serving as a satellite sector for this great city and also inheriting the natural advantages amassed by Springs previously.
There were also those who thought that a new coastal city was already on the queen’s blueprint. Once the plans were initiated, a city converging the peak industrial power of Springs, or rather, of the entire nation of Greed, would begin construction.
Of course, some believed that the whispers released by the queen were merely a probe, and in reality, Dantrian would not give up the current industrial system of Springs. Although a terrible accident with severe impact had occurred, with appropriate measures, Springs, this vast machine, would still march on methodically.
Aside from these three primary viewpoints, there were actually numerous other small-scale rumors circling within the city. Even disputes among old and new nobility began to gravitate towards this matter due to its influence.
And it was in the face of such circumstances that Ronald’s office in the White Star District actually had some work to do. For some reason unknown to others outside the Chamber of Commerce, there seemed a misconception that he was very clear about these matters, resulting in frequent visits from various people.
Like today,
a middle-aged merchant from the Traveling Merchants’ Guild had knocked on his door.
After a rather uninformative conversation that wound down, the sun also began to nestle against the distant horizon over the Sunset Ocean.
"Mr. Ronald, so to sum it up, do you think the industrial area will indeed be canceled?"
"It’s impossible to come to a conclusion on such matters now. To control a society that changes every moment, Her Majesty the Queen cannot set a rigid plan; flexibility is a must. As merchants, grasping business amidst such societal changes is something we all must contemplate."
"It was truly an honor to speak with you today."
Their conversation concluded, the merchant left Ronald’s office with utmost respect, even taking the initiative to close the door behind him, a gesture as if taking over the job of Heloise.
Listening to the other’s departing footsteps, Heloise sat back down on Ronald’s lap with a curious look on her face.
"This is the twenty-first time I’ve heard you use the same words to deal with these guys. Are you sure this is okay?"
"I’m not a worm in Dantrian’s belly, am I?" Ronald shrugged helplessly, his expression instantly changing from the confidence and assertiveness shown before to something more casual and vacant. "If you ask me, it’s obvious that we should move away from Springs’ residential areas. But while the right things are known to all, who can be certain of reality?"
"Establishing Springs’ industrial zone, that was accomplished with wealth and effort beyond the common man’s imagination. Considering the immediate practical benefits, it wouldn’t be odd not to move the industrial area."
Hearing Ronald’s response, Heloise nodded in agreement:
"That makes sense; it’s not something you can just guess."
"If I were still doing that spy work I used to do, accurate information on this kind of matter would definitely be worth the Scroll Research Society exchanging for an entire regional branch, such is its value."
This sort of insincere dealing with businessmen.
After doing so, Ronald always felt a bit uneasy, considering he was never an expert in this area. But as a professional consultant for the Ginkgo Leaf, this was his actual job.

He chatted with Heloise, his expression somewhat conflicted.
Meanwhile, Ronald took out a sheet of draft paper from his drawer, dipping his pen in ink, he began to draft the content.
Ever since his talk with Heloise, his creative activities had officially begun.
Ronald was a self-aware person.
Before his transmigration, he had read quite a few books on social economics, but he never engaged in detailed, professional research, so he could only be considered a half-expert.
Thus, in writing the book that housed his thoughts, Ronald didn’t choose to recount social principles that dissected society’s essence but instead, he created a novel envisioning the future.
—In fact, it depicted the life he had before transmigration.
A story simple and direct yet full of imagination, it was one that allowed everyone to read with ease and spark dreams about the future.
Much like one of Ronald’s favorite science fiction authors, Jules Verne.
In the seventeenth century, when the dawn of industrialization had just touched the Earth, that great author, with his rich imagination, created various possible futures for people.
Ronald now described a world with a complete scientific system capable of being realized, one that was convenient for life, advanced in technology, and featured close interpersonal communication.
If this book could be successfully published, it would surely have a certain effect.
At the very least, children with hopes for the future, after reading, would be filled with longing for that kind of future.
That would be enough.
Ronald’s goal was just that simple and plain.
Imagining such possibilities in his mind, Ronald finished one page of the draft and then began to revise it, taking the opportunity to strike up conversation with Heloise again.
"Heloise, what do you think is the real purpose of inviting me to this research meeting?"
"Could it be related to my status as a member of the Royal Society?"
Heloise was dealing with the Chamber of Commerce documents on the desk, not even lifting her head:
"Why bother with so many details, just go and see, right?"
"They’re hardly going to lay a trap at the Scroll Research Society to take you down, are they?"
Ronald nodded:
"That makes sense..."
This topic stemmed from yesterday morning.
As he was leaving his apartment to buy breakfast, Ronald had taken out a letter from the mailbox.
Inside the envelope was an invitation from the Scroll Research Society to attend a meeting at Wis University Library after twelve o’clock that night, to discuss some very important matters.
As the specifics of the invitation were vague in the letter,
Ronald could only speculate now.
