Mysterious Assistant of the Washed-Up Queen-Chapter 535 - 342: New Variety Show Hits
Just as Chu Tian was busy, a figure outside the office kept peering in timidly. Chu Tian initially didn't pay much attention, but the person was being remarkably brazen. If you're going to spy, at least be a bit discreet, he thought. Yet there the person was, blatantly staring through the door. What was more absurd was that no one stopped this blatant spying on the boss. And if he had business with the boss, why not just come in? Why was he hovering at the doorway?
When Chu Tian casually noticed this, he furrowed his brows. Before he could ask, the person peering through the crack in the door shifted, and he instantly recognized who it was.
Recognizing the visitor, Chu Tian couldn't help but smile wryly. He stood up, walked over, opened the door, and said, exasperated, "I say, Wei, did your chickens run off?"
"Your chickens are the ones that ran off! What are you doing?" Wei Liangxiao shot back, then glanced around the room as he followed Chu Tian inside.
"If they haven't, then what are you looking for? Or is your family so broke you can't even afford to eat, planning to come here and freeload?"
"President Chu, I never realized you had such a sharp tongue, insulting people without even swearing. Do I look like a thief to you?"
"Don't you?"
"Alright, alright. Where's your girlfriend? She's not here?"
"Why? Interested? Are you her fan?"
"Oh, get lost! What interest would I have? You're the one who got a girlfriend on the quiet and didn't even introduce her. You're the one with ulterior motives, aren't you?"
"I have no ulterior motives. Anyway, I recall you and Sister Hua seemed to be hitting it off. What happened? No news lately?"
"COUGH. COUGH. Well, about that... Your office is nice, you know? It's been locked all this time; I've never had a chance to look inside."
Seeing Wei Liangxiao awkwardly change the subject, Chu Tian found it even more amusing.
"What's wrong? Did things not work out between you two? Or did it all fall through?"
"What are you talking about? How did it fall through?! Uh... well, it's not exactly that. It's just... isn't Sister Hua a tad too busy? I send a message, and it gets a response hours later..."
Observing Wei Liangxiao's frustrated and awkward expression, Chu Tian understood.
So, looking for Xu Qingqiu was just a pretense? Was he really here to complain to me about Sister Hua?
"Well, that's out of my hands," Chu Tian said. "You can't handle that? Even if my girlfriend weren't busy, Sister Hua is always busy. If you can't accept that, I'd advise you to give up."
The words were harsh but true. You can't expect a workaholic to suddenly become completely love-obsessed just because they're in a relationship. If you want someone clingy, find someone who's happy to be a homemaker. If you choose a workaholic, then be prepared for them to be busy day and night.
Chu Tian wasn't intentionally trying to pour cold water on things. As a friend to both, he felt he should be clear. It was better to speak plainly now than for things to sour later, making future encounters awkward.
Wei Liangxiao, of course, knew this. He was just venting.
"Alright, alright, I was just saying. Never mind her. I've been so idle lately, I feel like I'm growing moss. That's why I came to you looking for some work."
"Hmm? Aren't you filming the second season of 'King of Mask Singer'? Is that done already?"
"Seriously, man? That was ages ago! We film two episodes in advance. It's almost finished airing, you know?"
Chu Tian thought for a moment. He realized he genuinely hadn't paid much attention to it. He'd asked Wei Liangxiao to film the second season back in May but hadn't closely monitored its progress. He recalled seeing it mentioned in a recent work summary, but with so much happening at the company, it wasn't covered in detail. He had only glanced at the viewership numbers, project revenue, and future plans. As for which episode they were on, who the contestants were, or who performed well, he really hadn't noticed.
"Alright, if it's done, then take a few days off. What's the hurry?"
"It's not that I'm in a rush. I already rested for over two months during the New Year. Now that I've just gotten busy again, the thought of more rest makes me antsy."
Wei Liangxiao poured himself a glass of water, took a sip, and said with a woeful expression, "I was thinking, since I'm free these days, I might as well go to a concert. But you know Sister Hua—she gave me that icy stare and said no. What could I do? So, I figured I should find some work. Otherwise, watching everyone else bustling about while I'm doing nothing just makes me feel terrible."
Seeing his aggrieved expression, Chu Tian almost burst out laughing.
So, everyone has their tamer, huh? With Wei Liangxiao's unruly nature, even his own father couldn't control him. Yet Sister Hua can make him cower with a single glance? And this guy has been married before—how can he not understand something so simple? When a woman says 'no,' it often means 'yes.'
"Seriously? She told you not to go, and you actually didn't?" Chu Tian exclaimed. "I refuse to believe that if you showed up there with a bouquet of flowers, she'd actually eat you alive. What's the big deal?"
The moment Chu Tian finished speaking, Wei Liangxiao's face turned beet red, and his eyes began to dart around evasively.
What does that mean? Is there more to this story? Could it be...
"You... you actually went?" Chu Tian asked, astonished.
Wei Liangxiao nodded, his face a mixture of shame and embarrassment, and managed only a muffled sound from his nose.
"Use your words! Did you really go? Tell me everything! I'll help you analyze the situation!"
Wei Liangxiao rolled his eyes and said irritably, "Analyze what? There's nothing to analyze..."
Despite his words, he still recounted the basic details of what had happened.
