Chapter 729 -730: Courage (22)_1
Jing Haohao always felt something was amiss. Her gaze thoroughly scanned Liang Chen’s body, and aside from his left leg, everywhere else seemed undamaged.
With a slight frown, Jing Haohao finally inquired, “Are you really okay?”
Liang Chen gave her a smile, speaking in a breezy tone, “Haohao, if you keep dawdling, my left leg might end up necrotic and I could be disabled for life.”
Jing Haohao pursed her lips, looked at Liang Chen somewhat unconvinced, and then said, “Wait for me then; I’ll come back as soon as I find someone.”
Liang Chen nodded nonchalantly, “Okay.”
Jing Haohao fixed her gaze on Liang Chen for a while, then noticing his light, rumpled sleepwear, she got a blanket from the back seat—the one Liang Chen always carried for her—despite it being early spring the nights were still chilly. She carefully draped the blanket over him.
She wrapped him up good and tight, and as she was tucking the blanket under his waist, she suddenly felt something wet and sticky. Her fingers trembled slightly, and she quickly withdrew her hand.
Her heart started to pound.

Turns out, it wasn’t just his leg that was injured but also his back.
How severe was the wound on his back that it bled so much?
If this continues, he might lose too much blood.
Yet there he was, joking casually with her.
Jing Haohao emerged from her shock and immediately understood Liang Chen’s intention. He wanted her to leave because he feared her finding out, staying, and risking her own injury worsening from blood loss.
Struggling to keep her tears and trembling in check, she looked at Chen, pretending not to know about his back injury and said, “I’ll go first then, wait for me, I’ll be back for sure.”
“Alright.” Liang Chen responded with his usual casual tone. However, it didn’t comfort Jing Haohao like before. Instead, it bruised her heart even more.
Fighting back the tears, she nodded at Liang Chen, repeating, “You must wait for me.”
Seeming exasperated by Jing Haohao’s insistence, Liang Chen dismissively waved his hand.
Jing Haohao didn’t say anything more, she just gritted her teeth and headed up the hill.
She had not taken more than a few steps when she heard Liang Chen calling out behind her, “Haohao.”
Jing Haohao halted and turned around sharply.
On Liang Chen’s serene face was a tangle of deep, complex emotions. His dark eyes held a gentle glow. His voice, tender and faint, echoed across the deserted wilderness, tugging on her heartstrings, “Haohao, can I have a hug?”
The gentleness in his voice was rare, but it brought a wave of sorrow to Jing Haohao.
Without any hesitation, Jing Haohao ran back, climbed into the car, and tightly embraced Liang Chen, then gently kissed the corner of his lips.
Her eyes moistened slightly; she strived to hold her tears back—as she slowly kissed him.
Jing Haohao understood that Liang Chen, severely injured, might think he’s beyond saving. In order not to burden her, he had put on a façade of being alright.
