My Tribrid System: More than a Monster-Chapter 118: No Next Time
Chapter 116
Walking away from the scene of the battle was Ray, and directly behind him trailed a somber Van.
Kai still stood his ground for a few beats longer, staring hard at Berg through the fabric of his covered face.
After a few more tense moments, he finally turned and walked off with a sharp, derisive snort.
"Guess I didn’t even have to lift a finger. He dealt a blow far harder than any fist could," he mocked over his shoulder as he departed.
Felix, who had successfully mingled back into the crowd, kept grinning from ear to ear at the spectacular show that had just occurred.
The rest of the spectators, on the other hand, remained stunned for a variety of different reasons.
Some were genuinely shocked at the fact that a supposed grade 1.2 human had managed to land multiple significant blows on a powerhouse like Berg.
Others were hit even harder by Ray’s scathing words; his speech had struck many sensitive chords deep within their consciences.
To an extent, it forced them to begin questioning every decision they had made since arriving at the Corps.
What truly had been the point of fighting amongst themselves this entire time?
Why the bitter division between the low and high graders?
This level of internal friction shouldn’t have been happening.
After all, it wasn’t as if the Aberrants would care about who was strong or weak whenever they decided to strike in force.
So why the constant fuss?
Everyone was lost in deep thought—including Berg.
For some reason, the legacy refused to move at all.
He kept his eyes sternly fixed on the floor, his hands squeezed into fists to contain the immense fury bubbling inside of him.
’H-He fucking talked me down? How dare he? How dare a weakling, a pauper, speak to me like that? And—and he actually managed to strike me? Aaaaaargh! My reputation. He—he just dealt a devastating blow to my standing. How dare that kid?!’
Felix, sporting an amused smile, turned away and began walking off toward the exit.
’Damn. Brother sure has a few screws loose. But I’m still confused.
His opponent was objectively much stronger than him, so how was he able to match him so effectively?
Something feels off about him, and he stubbornly refuses to tell me. But why do I care? He is my brother, after all, so there is no use impeding on his privacy and personal secrets.’
He shrugged as he finally left the hallway behind.
His exit seemed to snap the others back to their senses, and one by one, the students began walking away while mumbling in hushed silence.
No doubt, today’s events would spread like wildfire throughout the entire Corps.
A grade 1.2 human going toe-to-toe with a grade 6.8 meta-human?
This would surely be the biggest news in the Corps for weeks.
Berg knew this all too well, which is why he gritted his teeth and walked away with his head slightly bowed in shame.
’Just you wait. I will make sure I have my revenge very soon.’

After leaving the hallway, the boys made it back to their dormitory.
The moment they stepped inside the room, they collapsed onto their respective beds.
Kai still had his bandana covering his face, his gaze fixed blankly on the ceiling in deep thought.
Van, on the other hand, clutched his key tightly between his fingers as vivid images of the brutal encounter with Berg flooded his mind.
He then cast a worried glance at Ray, who was laying completely motionless, staring at the ceiling above him in obviously profound contemplation.
Nobody knew exactly what the others were thinking, but the silence in the room was heavy and palpable.
Ray actually appreciated the quiet; he was busy staring at the air directly in front of him.
His eyes were locked onto the translucent screen displaying the rewards he had earned for dealing with the descendant.
[Rewards: +500 EXP; +5 Stat Points; +4 AGI Stats]

....
Ray subtly smiled as he stared at the glowing screen.
’At least I leveled up and gained a plus-one to my strength stat. Unfortunately, it is still lagging behind compared to my agility. I definitely need to get it up.’
A pause ensued, and then Ray shifted slightly, straightening his posture as he mentally calculated his next move for a few seconds.
’Send five points to strength.’
[Done]
[STR: 45 >>> 50]
[Stat points: 2]
Ray could immediately feel his muscles tightening and strengthening.
He clenched and unclenched his hands, feeling raw power course through his veins and into his fingertips.
’Ah.... Feels addictive.’
[You have two stat points left.]
’Hm. After strength and agility, a werewolf needs to be durable. Send the rest to my endurance stat.’
[Done]
[END: 33 >>> 35]
A small smirk rested on his face as he lifted his hand into the air and clenched it again.
He paused his activity for a moment as a realization crested his mind, causing him to grin from ear to ear.
His eyes glinted with a spark of triumph.
’Hold on. Haven’t I just surpassed Trisha in raw might?!’
His heart thudded with excitement as he sat upright like a stalk of straight bamboo.
’I recall that her agility was 48 while her strength was 50 during the initial testing. And I have just reached that level in under two months? Yo, yo... this is absolute cinema.’
"Hahahaha! Wonderful!" Ray unconsciously burst into a fit of unhinged laughter, drawing bewildered looks from his roommates.
Van, watching from his bed, was now genuinely worried.
’Di—did he slam his head too hard during the fight? What has come over Ray all of a sudden?’
Kai just furrowed his brows, staring intently at the display.
’Th—this is the laughter of a madman. Someone who has just accomplished something worthwhile. What did he actually do?’
Van couldn’t take the tension anymore and called out in his naturally soft voice.
"Ray...? You good, bro?"
Ray cut his laughter short, slowly returning to reality as it dawned on him: he wasn’t alone!
Clearing his throat and regaining his composure, he nodded firmly toward his friend.
"I should be asking you that question instead. Are you fine?"
Van nodded, a warm smile of reassurance crossing his face.
"Thank you for helping me, even at the detriment of your own safety."
Ray frowned, pointing a finger at him.
"I’m going to punch a hole in your face if you ever thank me again. I mean, what are friends for?"
Kai finally sat upright, pulling the bandana back up to his forehead and sending a sharp glare in Ray’s direction.
"You both seriously need to keep out of trouble. Even though Berg was pissed off, it seems like he still retained a shred of sanity.
You are lucky he didn’t go all out. You wouldn’t have survived that encounter, even with your strange ability to transform."
Ray didn’t offer a rebuttal; instead, he simply shrugged.
"I couldn’t just stand back and watch Van get bullied."
Kai facepalmed, letting out a frustrated sigh.
"Still, you humiliated him publicly. Next time, he might not be so restrained."
Ray just smirked incredulously. "There won’t be a next time, I promise."
’And that’s because I will soon surpass even you. And afterward, that fool won’t even be able to look me in the eye.’
