Chapter 413: Chapter 413: Not Just a Short Period

"It is quite baffling, but the Seymour Family probably won’t let the young mistress stay here," Harold Chapman spoke. "They’re likely determined to take her back."

"I just don’t get it, where else can they find such a powerful ally like the Quinn Family? It would be better for both families if the Seymour Family simply acknowledged her here, yet they insist on taking Melody Thorne back."

This is simply insane.

"Keep an eye on those few people first," Jared Quinn said calmly. "If they dare make any moves, catch them immediately."

"Alright."

Melody Thorne stared at the study upstairs. How could those three people still be in the study after all this time without coming out?

Surely they don’t intend to act against the Seymour Family, but with Jared Quinn’s shrewdness, that can’t be possible.

Halfway through dinner, Harold Chapman and Leon Rivers finally came down from upstairs, but they left the villa without any pause.

"What are you looking at? Just eat your food," Jared Quinn obstructed Melody Thorne’s gaze.

"I still want to ask what position you put me in," Melody Thorne huffed. "Not even letting me into the study; who knows what you’re doing in there?"

Jared Quinn sat across from her, and the butler served him a meal.

"Don’t worry, as long as they don’t act, I promise not to do anything to them."

Melody Thorne lowered her head without a word. She also wasn’t sure whether the Seymour Family was planning anything.

The sound of a vehicle came from the door, strangely accompanied by the sound of an ambulance.

Melody Thorne put down her chopsticks and walked outside.

Jared Quinn seemed to have already guessed who it was, so he stayed in place without moving, merely casting a glance in the butler’s direction.

The butler shrugged helplessly. The elder only liked Melody Thorne as a daughter-in-law, so his actions could be biased.

Melody Thorne walked to the entrance of the hall and saw someone being carried off an ambulance. It was an old man with an oxygen mask over his mouth, looking as if he could die at any moment.

She turned around, intending to go back upstairs, having probably guessed the situation already.

"Melody, Melody," the elder’s soon-to-be-failing voice came from behind, with two doctors getting out of the vehicle and blocking Melody Thorne’s way. They spoke in a pained voice, "Young mistress, the elder is unwell again, and he may not have much time left. He has some last words for you, please wait before going upstairs."

Melody Thorne "..."

"Melody," the elder’s voice came from behind as he was pushed into the hall by the doctors, deliberately lying down in front of her and extending a hand, "Melody, grandpa may not make it much longer. I might not have much life left. Could you listen to a few words from grandpa?"

"Grandpa, please speak," Melody Thorne had no choice but to oblige the elder.

The elder signaled to the doctors with his eyes, and they handed Melody Thorne a contract. The contract stated that Melody Thorne was not to leave the Quinn Family for the rest of her life.

"Grandpa’s life is coming to an end, but I’m still worried about the matter between you two. I’m afraid I won’t rest in peace even after death. If you leave, not only Jared Quinn, but Timmy might also end up with an evil stepmother."

Melody Thorne looked at a few pages of the agreement the doctors gave her, which included all of the elder’s assets to be given to her, as long as she signed the contract. But the duration mentioned wasn’t just short.

Though she decided to stay with Jared Quinn, the contract’s term was for a lifetime—till death—she couldn’t leave the Quinn Family. Right now, she wasn’t sure if Jared Quinn would treat her this well forever.
