My Seven Wives in One Body and Me, her Manager-Chapter 48: Pre - Official Match Jitters
Two days later, school was back in session and lessons had returned to face-to-face learning in the classroom. Dennis, having returned to his class after break once the afternoon lessons had started up again, glanced over at Bella’s desk, which had been empty since morning because she hadn’t shown up for school.
He simply snorted and turned his attention back to the front. His mind was focused only on the sparring match scheduled for after school—an event the school had already broadcasted to anyone who wanted to watch, since the hunter guild recognized it as an official match.
Dennis also glanced over at Jason and Kimberly, who were sitting side-by-side in front of him. It was obvious that Jason was trying to focus, though his legs kept twitching under the desk, while Kimberly seemed to be trying to stop him by using her hand because Jason’s legs were making their desk shake.
The bell rang, signaling that class was over. Mason, who was teaching at the front, reminded everyone about the sparring match to be held in the gymnasium afterward and congratulated Jason, Kimberly, and Dennis on their upcoming fight.
As soon as Mason left, their classmates immediately swarmed Jason and Kimberly to cheer them on, but Dennis remained alone in the back. Not a single person approached him because his classmates were still afraid of him. Casually, Dennis cleared his desk and packed his books back into his bag.
But as he went to stand up, he saw someone standing next to his desk—he could see a pair of legs that were clearly a woman’s. He lifted his head and saw Rika standing there with two of her friends.
"What now?" Dennis asked, curious.
"I just wanted to let you know that as of today, Bella has dropped out of school. And this... Bella asked me to give this letter to you," Rika said, handing him an envelope containing a physical letter.
Dennis took the letter, and then Rika and the others said their goodbyes and left. They walked out of the classroom, and it was clear Rika would be supporting her husband, Akira, in the sparring match later. Dennis opened the envelope and read the letter from Bella.
His eyes moved from left to right. The contents were a half-hearted apology; Bella blamed Dennis for marrying Daisy, saying that Dennis should have come to her first, without even mentioning that Dennis was with Daisy because of a government match-up.
Bella also claimed she had been manipulated by Brad into being cruel to Dennis and hurting him, despite him being her childhood friend. She offered justifications for every other way she had treated him, without offering a single real apology.
And finally, the part that made Dennis crumple the letter: Bella said she would wait for Dennis to come back to his senses because he wasn’t a good fit for Daisy. She claimed she would forgive Dennis if he divorced Daisy and returned to her, because according to Bella, Dennis was meant to be with her.
She also mentioned she was currently in the process of divorcing Brad, assisted by a friend who was much older than her and knew a great divorce attorney in the city.
"Ha... back when I was fat and cross-eyed... when everyone stayed away from me because they said I smelled and was disgusting, where were you? You joined in on badmouthing me right along with Brad, your husband. You wouldn’t even come near me, even though you were my childhood friend. And now that I’ve changed like this, you say I’m not a fit for Daisy? Unbelievable. You really haven’t changed since we were kids... always wanting everything your way and treating me like I’m your subordinate. A total bastard," Dennis muttered in his heart, fueled by annoyance.
Dennis tore the letter into tiny pieces, then stood up and walked out. When he reached the doorway, he tossed the shredded paper and the envelope into the trash can without looking back. His heart was still pounding with anger, so he took a deep breath and exhaled to calm his nerves as he walked toward Daisy’s classroom to pick up his wife and head to the gymnasium together.
He leaned against the wall in front of Daisy’s classroom, waiting for her to come out. Before long, Daisy emerged alongside Gary and Olivia. Dennis noticed that Daisy was back to being Daisy number one—the primary—and not the number two disguise, because she wasn’t wearing a watch at all and was carrying her katana. Gary stood in front of Dennis with a flat expression.
"You ready, man? Let’s go crush them," Gary said.
"Yeah, let’s finish them off. Jason and Kimberly were still in the classroom chatting; should we wait for them?" Dennis replied, still feeling a bit of lingering rage.
"It’s fine, they’ll catch up. Let’s head over there first," Gary urged.
"Alright, let’s go," Dennis replied.
They walked toward the gymnasium together. Daisy glanced over at Dennis and shifted closer until she was pressing against him.
"What’s wrong, honey?" Daisy whispered.
"Nothing, I’m just excited," Dennis answered, forcing a smile, even though he still hadn’t quite let go of the last bits of his anger.
"Are you sure?" Daisy asked, looking at Dennis with concern.
"I’m sure... but what about you, why are you back to being number one? I feel like I left with number two this morning," Dennis asked.
"Hmm... two, three, four, five, six, and seven said they want to stay inside for the next week and only come out if they’re needed, so I’ll be the one out here all week," Daisy replied.
"How come? Did something happen?" Dennis asked, surprised.
"Nothing’s wrong. After talking with Olivia, I decided I don’t want to get pregnant just yet... that’s the reason, hehe," Daisy answered.
"Ah... that’s true. They really are the ones who act like rabbits," Dennis replied.
"I’m like a rabbit too, you know. I loved doing it with you even when you were fat, especially now, hehe," Daisy said casually while hooking her arm through Dennis’s. 𝙧𝙚𝙚𝔀𝒆𝓫𝓷𝙤𝓿𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝙤𝓶
"Is that so? Good to hear," Dennis said. "Now, this is what a partner is supposed to be like. It’s obvious the difference between Daisy and Bella is like night and day," Dennis muttered in his heart.
They kept walking toward the gymnasium. Along the way, Dennis could see Gary and Olivia walking in front of him and Daisy, their hands gripped so tightly they were sweating. Both were silent, not saying a word, but Dennis could feel a wave of tension radiating from them with every step they took. Then he turned to look at Daisy, who also seemed tense, hugging his arm with her gaze fixed straight ahead, remaining silent.
Even though the hallway they were passing through was quite crowded—with students from every grade level heading to the gym to watch the match and the air buzzing with their whispering—a thick layer of tension that you could cut with a knife hung over the entire corridor. Dennis could feel it, because his own mind was already racing through all sorts of different scenarios.
Suddenly, someone tapped Dennis on the shoulder from behind. He turned to see Jason and Kimberly walking a bit breathlessly behind him. Both looked annoyed as they glared at Dennis.
"What’s the deal, man? Why’d you leave without even checking on Kimberly and me?" Jason asked, irritated.
"Yeah, seriously. We thought you were still behind us. Next time, at least say something," Kimberly added.
"Sorry, I was just pissed off," Dennis replied.
"Wait, why were you upset?" Daisy asked, surprised.
"It’s nothing, don’t worry about it," Dennis answered.
"What was Rika doing, coming over to you like that? Was she taunting you so you’d lose to her husband?" Jason asked.
"Hmm... something like that," Dennis answered.
"Oh, no wonder you’re upset," Daisy replied.
"Relax, dude. We’re going to beat them into the ground. But next time, even if you’re pissed, at least tell me and Kimberly. We’re in the same class—don’t forget us," Jason said.
"Okay man, sorry. Won’t happen again," Dennis replied.
"Remember, Den, I don’t want that happening again. In exchange, once we win, you’re treating us all, hehe," Kimberly replied.
"Hah... are you sure we’re going to win?" Jason asked his wife.
"Hey, think positive! I’m sick of watching you act nervous since last night, to the point we forgot our plans to watch that new movie together. It’s annoying," Kimberly answered.
"Same here, Kim. I was tense last night, too," Daisy said.
"Being tense is fine, but don’t be pessimistic. I don’t like it," Kimberly shot back.
"Okay, okay, sorry babe. For real," Jason replied, trying to calm his wife down.
"Good that you understand, babe," Kimberly replied to her husband.
"You guys are really fired up, aren’t you? Good. Let’s crush them together," Olivia said, glancing back after hearing the chatter behind her.
"Let’s get over there, fast," Gary urged.
"Yeah," Dennis, Daisy, Olivia, Jason, and Kimberly replied in unison.
The six of them immediately picked up their pace. This time, they marched toward the gymnasium with confidence, shifting the atmosphere around them as they moved through the hallway. Dennis looked at Gary and Olivia walking in front of him, then glanced back at Jason and Kimberly walking behind him, before finally turning to look at Daisy walking by his side. He suddenly felt that Daisy and the others were his people—those who accepted him exactly as he was and chose to stand with him, unlike those who wanted to manipulate him with delusions for their own sake. Dennis smiled, and all of his anger vanished as he walked together with his friends.
