My Scheming Little Devil-Chapter 2020: No One Can Be Trusted
Next, the TV reporters interviewed the feelings of the concerned citizens, particularly the parents of the students who died in the school massacre. Those parents, emotional and in tears, shouted hoarsely at the camera, demanding that the Councilman come forward and explain this incident, to take responsibility for the tragedy.
Upon seeing this, Yiyi thought that if she didn’t realize who had orchestrated these instigative news reports, she would be utterly foolish.
It must have been those sent by the Queen who seized the opportunity to make a fuss over this matter, stirring up public outrage and disappointment with the Councilman, pushing the citizens to support the Queen and resist the Councilman’s faction.
This move was truly very successful and brilliant. Clearly, once the news report was out, the Councilman’s reputation was bound to plummet, becoming the target of public scorn and hatred, losing much of his support rate.
However, what she couldn’t fathom was how the Councilman’s faction could behave so foolishly amidst this pivotal issue.
They allowed themselves to be caught holding the obvious handle, designed this trap, and fell into a crisis of lost public support.
It’s hard to comprehend that a political figure like the Councilman, wily and cunning, having navigated the political arena for decades, could be undermined to such an extent, it’s truly unbelievable.
Regardless of the real truth behind this incident, it seems now that the Councilman’s faction has taken a severe blow, a hard hit indeed.
The Councilman had a high level of support domestically. His administration over twenty years brought outstanding results and various wise policies, making the Aus Empire one of the world’s strongest nations.
He was even more beloved in civil surveys than the Queen.
But this time, everything was overturned. No matter how popular he was before, losing reputation and support was evident with something like this occurring, whereas the Queen’s support rate was bound to rise dramatically.
Yiyi always believed that in terms of strength, the Councilman’s faction was more superior, but apparently, it was hard to say now. The Queen also had powerful helpers, completely reversing the advantages and disadvantages for both sides in one move.
"Mom, let’s not get too involved in these political matters. This kind of event is far from simple on the surface. None of these big shots are cleaner than the other. I need to go out to handle some things. Stay home, and don’t go out if anyone comes looking for you."
Since leaving here was not an option, she would not let the money in her hand idle. While the citizens were filled with righteous indignation, she needed to quickly prepare a backup plan.
She quietly used her money to buy small houses in both the east and west of the city, and stocked up on various non-perishable foods and common supplies.
Then, she went to the black market to buy some guns and self-defense equipment, hiding them away. In times of chaos, no one could be relied upon. If someone truly dared to threaten her life, she would retaliate in kind. In this world, only those ruthless enough could survive.
...
In the Councilman’s residence, the atmosphere was tense.
"You fool! Look at the mess you’ve created, allowing the Queen’s faction to seize such a huge handle, bombarding the media, causing your uncle Councilman’s reputation to plummet. You’ve lost the citizens’ support. You idiot, I could shoot you right now." Helian Zheng, furious beyond belief, was thrashing his son Helian Nan, who was slumped on the ground, face white as a sheet.
Then, with a face full of grief, he looked at Halian Jing, who was sitting on the redwood chair with an ambiguous expression, and Ling Kong, who stood behind Halian Jing with a cold face but a smile tinged with chill on the corners of his lips.
