Chapter 48 -48: Qifu Faction

After a long time, when all the leaders of the different Dao Schools had chosen their disciples, more than half of the candidates were still left unchosen.

One by one, they all hung their heads in despair.

Most of them, however, were clad in attire marking them as menial workers. Over on Wang Zijia’s side, only a few candidates remained.

Moreover, just like Wang Zijia and his companions, they had watched the entire selection ceremony with indifference, showing no desire to participate. Clearly, these less than ten individuals belonged to a privileged class within this selection!

Guaranteed admission students!

Wang Zijia subconsciously took note of the few candidates around him, just as they seemed to be memorizing each other’s faces.

Once the Dao Schools had selected their students, the administrators of the twelve courtyards began to assign their disciples to different areas, leading away the candidates who were left over. Where they would ultimately end up, was up to fate.

As for Wang Zijia and Xiang Feifei, they were once again led away by Xiang Liang. To them, the previous events seemed like a mere formality. They were already guaranteed for admission.

······

Xiang Liang once again flew Wang Zijia and his companions deeper into the complex of Wanyu Sect buildings.

The deeper they flew, the more people they encountered in the sky. There were kites, light trails, flying boats, an overwhelming variety of flying objects.

The buildings on the ground grew increasingly larger, with the distinctive central buildings of each School becoming more and more imposing.

When Wang Zijia vaguely saw a massive mountain range, Xiang Liang began to descend toward a massive complex of buildings below. They had clearly reached their destination.

This was a very large group of buildings, almost comparable in size to a small third-tier city in his previous life.

The central building, representing the School itself, was also extremely tall, roughly three to five hundred meters in estimation.

The whole building looked like an oddly shaped hammer, covered in numerous protruding windows and rooms. They resembled a series of embossed runes, which made the building very memorable.

“This is one of the main Schools of the Talisman Court, the Qifu Faction. Most of our Xiang family members who enter the Wanyu Sect have survived in this School.” Xiang Feifei pointed at the distinctive building as she explained to Wang Zijia.

“Hmm!” Wang Zijia nodded and replied softly while looking around.

The cloud climber landed in front of a massive hall not far from the distinctive building. There was a constant stream of people coming and going from the hall, with various spiritual lights flashing within, which hinted at its modern layout.

There were many office counters around the hall.

Xiang Liang led the group into the hall and went straight to an office counter.

“Sixth Uncle, you’ve brought the people back?” A young man in his twenties, whose eyes showed a touch of vicissitudes of life, greeted the newcomers warmly.

“Greetings, Thirteenth Uncle!” Xiang Feifei shyly responded.

“Hel…Hello, Thirteenth Uncle!” Wang Zijia somewhat awkwardly followed Xiang Feifei’s lead. It wasn’t an act; he was genuinely embarrassed.

It was a pity from heaven and a well-known fact amongst ghosts, who could perceive his feelings. Just imagine what it’s like to be engaged on the first day of meeting each other and then meet a large number of in-laws!

“Feifei is here, huh!” Thirteen Uncle, Xiang Sheng, nodded at Xiang Feifei with a smile before turning his attentions to Wang Zijia and asked, “Is this the kid who rushed to join the Sect yesterday by using the clan’s connections?”

“Hmm, this is Feifei’s fiancé. Please sort out our identities quickly. I have a lot to do today.” Xiang Liang replied.

Xiang Sheng, who wanted to say something initially, immediately grew bright-eyed upon hearing Xiang Liang calling Wang Zijia a fiancé, clearly understanding what that title entailed.

“Alright, we’ll have a long chat when we have time.” As Xiang Sheng spoke, he waved his hand and activated a light screen and began operating it.

Watching him operate the virtual computer, Wang Zijia’s mouth twitched.

Although he had suspected that the Wanyu Sect might be different from Wanyu City and could have already entered the information age, he was still finding it hard to adapt to the fact that the Sect was actually more advanced than his previous life despite its ancient appearance.

A super-modern, ancient-style Xianxia era, huh?

This world seemed to be getting more interesting!

“This is your identity token. For now, you can only accept tasks from the Wanyu Sect, record your Dao Kung, Merits, and contact disciples you’re familiar with. More functions, like retrieving disciple information and so on, will be gradually unlocked according to your position.”

Dao Kung: Sect’s currency;

Merit: Sect’s honor.

Having completed the tasks, Xiang Sheng handed over a jade card, about the size of a bank card, and began explaining. He then brought out two sets of new uniforms and said,

“This is the robe for Outer Sect Disciples. It has a rune of cleanliness embedded in it, which provides a certain cleaning function. This robe is considered a primary-level robe for a magical soldier. It is a welfare benefit for the Outer Sect Disciples.”

While speaking, he took out another talisman and said seriously, “Since you were not considered a regular menial worker of the sect before and didn’t receive the basic cultivation welfare benefits, and now that you’ve directly entered the Outer Sect, you are given this Inheritance Order.”

“You can use this Order to select any First-Grade spell from the Scripture Pavilion, or even a First-Grade cultivation method that includes, but is not limited to, basic cultivation methods or the Child Chapters of most Schools’ cultivation methods.”

“Use this Order carefully. While you can exchange Dao Kung for spells and cultivation methods in the Scripture Pavilion, there are certain limitations—certain core systems of other Schools require specific conditions. The Inheritance Order can bypass these restrictions.”

Wang Zijia nodded, saying, “I’ve understood, Thirteenth Uncle!”

“Alright, I don’t need to worry about your accommodation arrangements since Sixth Uncle will handle it,” Xiang Sheng said, taking out another set of the same things for Xiang Feifei before returning to his counter.

Xiang Liang then ushered the others out and returned to the air.

After a short while, he led them to the central ring of the Qifu Faction’s building complex where numerous classic courtyards were located.

The buildings were made of wood and covered with green tiles. There was a small vegetable patch in the courtyard, which made the buildings resemble the water towns in the southern part of China. It was indeed one of the better places in the whole building complex.

Xiang Liang led them to a pair of connected courtyards. Each of the courtyards was separate, but the encircling fences were built in such a way as to encompass both courtyards together.

The two courtyard buildings were practically joined together, almost like terraces, with no intervening wall.

In the centre of the small courtyard stood a tall pear tree. It was a very old tree. Underneath it was a stone table, suitable for chess or tea tasting, lending an air of elegance to the whole courtyard.

“This will be your courtyard in the future. Regarding work assignments, because of time constraints, they have not been confirmed yet, but they should be available in a day or two,” Xiang Liang ushered them into the courtyard and explained.

“I know that you young people nowadays have your own ideas and are very arrogant. That’s why the clan has arranged this place for you to gradually get used to and accept each other.”

‘So we’re living together. We got engaged first, and then we’re supposed to fall in love. Pretty progressive!’

With a whirl of thoughts in his mind, Wang Zijia turned to look at Xiang Feifei with an emotionless face and asked, “Left or right?”
