Chapter 24 -24: The Source

As he stepped out, he saw an accumulation of corpses. Thirty royal guards, their corpses rigid with mottle marks, had been dead for two days or so.

Further down the corridor, maids and manservants moved around holding lanterns, seemingly oblivious to the scene. Confirming Wang Zijia’s suspicions once again, this mysterious domain behaved much like a game scenario.

The gatekeepers acted as the trigger mechanism, while the guards served as passive response mechanisms, triggering only when provoked, and reacted collectively!

“Kind of feels like being in a dungeon raid, shame this one started massacring before I could even get used to it. No immersive experience, I give it a bad review!”

Wang Zijia pondered, completely oblivious to the reality of the situation.

Had this abnormality really occurred, he guessed he wouldn’t even be qualified to cheer from the sidelines, much like the battle against the Sheep-Headed beast the other night.

Upon inspecting the dead guards, he found them to be nothing more than ordinary people. At least they were in life – they had nothing of value to loot now.

Next, Wang Zijia began inspecting the maids and manservants in the courtyard one by one. Just like before, they would collapse in the wake of his considerable aura before even getting close to him.

After a moment, Wang Zijia had seen to every living being around him, leaving another ten or so knocked out.

He gained a value of 131 and his power successfully broke through the six hundred year mark!

Only after confirming that there were no moving dead bodies left, did Wang Zijia stride towards the center of the courtyard, where an irritating but also pleasant wave of energy emanated.

It appeared to be a large study room.

“Mine, what the master left for me!”

“Mama….”

“It’s mine, what the master left for me!”

“Slurp! Slurp!”

As he approached the room, two voices echoed in murmurs, accompanied by sounds of gnawing and swallowing. It was as if someone was snatching food to eat.

‘Living beings? Weren’t they supposed to be still gestating?’

Wang Zijia pondered for a moment, and quietly advanced towards the window, licked his finger, and gently poked a hole in the paper window. He then peered inside.

Upon seeing the situation inside the room, Wang Zijia’s pupils constricted intensely.

He had mistaken this for a study room. It was actually a cultivation room with a bookshelf next to it.

Eerily at the center of the vast and vacant cultivation hall lay an inexplicable monstrosity.

It was a massive flesh ball nearly two meters in diameter. The surface of the flesh ball wasn’t smooth; it looked rough and bloody, as if someone had torn off its skin.

Bloody veins surfaced on it along with several flesh sprouts, each sprout with a dimly visible human face in it.

Where the flesh ball touched the ground, vein-like tendrils were tangled as if the flesh ball had grown out from the ground.

At the top of the flesh ball, a man and a woman were embedded, their bodies half engulfed by the flesh ball.

The pair were hardly recognizable as humans— they were continuously biting each other, their wounds healing at an alarming rate.

As the wounds on their bodies made contact, flesh sprouts extended out, attempting to mesh together. However, due to their continuous movements, the sprouts were stretched and entwined with each other.

The entire scene gave the impression that the flesh ball had formed from their relentless gnawing and intertwining.

“Mine, what the master left for me!”

“Mama….”

“It’s mine, what the master left for me!”

“Slurp! Slurp!”

As they gnawed at each other, both of them murmured nonsensically.

“Gulp!”

Seeing this, Wang Zijia instinctively swallowed.

After inspecting them carefully for a while, Wang Zijia roughly understood the two people’s conditions.

Just like Wang Zijia before, they were currently under a frenzy. However, they seemed to have gone crazy to a point beyond his experience as they had lost all notions of consciousness.

He wondered if regaining their senses or birthing something new would come from the culmination of this gestation period.

After careful observation, relying on the fact that he didn’t fear pollution and that the flesh ball likely couldn’t move, he drew his dagger, and leveraging his centuries worth of power, thrust it into the gap of the window.

With a gentle breath of True Qi, the dagger moved slightly upward, cutting through the latch and opening the window.

He didn’t immediately jump into the room, but rather kept his entire body tensed and ready to run at any moment.

With the opening of the window, the room was flooded with gloomy moonlight, adding to the room’s eerie ambiance reminiscent of the underworld.

This large disturbance didn’t seem to affect the flesh ball or the pair intertwined on it; seeing this, Wang Zijia sighed in relief.

After checking the room from the window to ensure there was nobody else, he cautiously climbed in and approached the massive flesh ball in the center of the room.

The flesh ball remained indifferent towards him, as if he was interacting with a giant egg.

After circling it, Wang Zijia grew braver.

He gently poked the flesh ball with his dagger. The dagger was very sharp, but the flesh ball, despite its terrifying texture, was far from hard. A slight touch caused it to bleed.

As the fresh blood rolled down the flesh ball, the wound healed before the blood could reach the ground. Throughout the entire process, both the flesh ball and the entwined pair above showed no sign of reaction.

So, it was an ‘egg’!

Wang Zijia’s eyes glittered faintly, as he plunged the dagger into one of the sprouts on the flesh ball.

“Plop!”

The flesh sprouts, despite their formidable appearance, were far weaker than normal flesh. With a light stab, the dagger nearly went in all the way.

This time, the flesh ball reacted, giving a slight tremble. The couple on top, who were gnawing at each other, seemed to speed up their action a bit.

Wang Zijia squinted his eyes and once he was sure there was no immediate danger, the True Qi throughout his body surged. The True Qi of six hundred years ascended and formed a blade of energy half a meter long around the dagger in his hands.

“Dragoon Slash One: Ghost Shadow!”

“Youli Second Slash: Double Dragon Meeting!”

“···”

Facing the flesh ball, Wang Zijia danced with his dagger, enhanced by the energy blade, like wielding two lightsabers, he began slicing into the fragile monstrosity furiously.

With the flurry of slashes, he brutally hacked the flesh ball into multiple chunks, scattering them all over the place.

However, what gave Wang Zijia pause was that even after being torn apart, the bloody chunks landing on the ground hadn’t lost their vitality and were trying to congeal again. His frenzied hacking became even fiercer.

“Splash!”

Eventually, the entire flesh ball was cut into chunks by Wang Zijia and the entangled pair fell off. Amidst the twitching flesh, the pair began to move slightly slower, as if they were regaining their senses.

Wang Zijia didn’t care much about that; he continued chopping into the fallen pair, including their two perfectly preserved heads.

“Squish!”

When he cut off their skulls along with half of their brains with a single stroke, the pair’s gnawing and struggling finally stopped.
